Cannonball
1035 N Miami Ave, Suite 301

$FREE

Please plan to be prompt and to attend the entire workshop – no latecomers.
Space is limited to 16 attendants. RSVP is required by 5:00 PM on July 12 to splash@cannonballmiami.org. Please indicate if you will be attending solo or with a partner.

This basic training will develop your rudimentary massage skills by exploring simple strategies for the use of hands, fingers, forearms, and elbows, and for listening through touch. Massages will occur while seated in chairs, and will not involve any additional equipment, creams, or oils. Participants will remain clothed throughout the training. Arriving solo is totally fine, but if rubbing strangers or semi-strangers seems odd, feel free to bring a partner you trust.

Tea and water will be provided, but please BYO snacks.

Adam Overton is an experimental artist, and certified massage therapist (since 2007) living in Los Angeles, California, and a visiting resident at Cannonball through mid-August. His work involves performance, writing, experimental music, massage, and workshops, in formats that involve audience participation in order to facilitate odd and intimate artist‐led experiences. Overton works closely with Guru Rugu as co‐director of the experimental meditation center of los angeles and as a ghostwriter for Guru Rugu’s Experimental Meditation Hour on KCHUNG Radio.

The experimental meditation center of los angeles has no permanent location, and will be based in Miami throughout this summer. Adam Overton and Guru Rugu takes the role of artist-as-facilitator, offering small group meditation sessions, each of them of different nature. These sessions are not the traditional “therapeutic” meditations, but rather repurposed spiritual, religious, and physical forms of playful yet profound meditation, offering a safe environment for “something else” to happen. Experimental meditation sessions will be held at non-traditional locations throughout the City, and will be free and open to the public.
