An Evening with Miami Beach Surfing Pioneer Dudley Whitman

Join us for an evening with Dudley Whitman, surfer, filmographer, and boating legend. The evening will consist of guided tours of the Whitman Family Collection, a special 15-minute film screening about South Florida surfing history and a Q&A with Mr. Whitman.
Don’t miss your last chance to view this one-of-a-kind collection which closes to the public Friday, January 22nd. The exhibition spans over 100 years of achievements and innovations by the prominent Miami Beach Whitman family, including brothers William “Bill” Jr., Stanley and Dudley. View photographs and objects related to boating, horticulture, and commercial real estate development. Images of family patriarch, William Sr., who built “The Whitman,” an Art Deco hotel on Miami Beach in 1935 are on display as well as an aerial photograph of the development of Bal Harbour Shops. Objects on display also include the first underwater movie camera case patented by the Whitmans and used in the 1952 Oscar®-winning documentary film, The Sea Around Us; wooden surf boards; and one of the first fiberglass production boats built in the Southeast.
