One of the longest running Ballroom Dance Competitions in the United States, The Grand National Championships, celebrates its 44th year, October 30-November 2, 2014
This prestigious competition began in Miami Beach in 1970.
The 2014 event is sure to be South Florida’s, Miami’s & Key Biscayne’s most gala Ballroom Dance extravaganza ever, kicking off on Thursday, October 30th, with top Pro-Am dancers from across the country, with a glittering parade of 200 or more Pro- AM dancers and Professional Competitions.
In addition to its 44-year tradition of bringing together Amateur and Pro-Am competitors from across the United States to vie for the title of Grand National Champion, this year’s competition will feature The Grand National Professional Championships. The top ranked professional couples In the United States & World Championship events will compete for this Grand National Title.
“We’re very excited to launch the new championship title for professional dancers of American Ballroom, said Cassandra Schneider, co-organizer of the NDCA Sanctioned 44th Grand National Dancesport Championships.â€Ours is the only Sanctioned Championship Ballroom Dance competition held in South Florida.”
The popularity of television shows like “Dancing with the Stars†and “So You Think You Can Dance” proves that ballroom dance has captured the passionate attention and the hearts of millions. The Grand National Championships, which hosts many of the top dancers in the U.S., is world famous for its exciting dance shows and hospitality.
Running the Miami event for the twelfth year, Cassandra and Peter Schneider–themselves world-class dancers, judges and promoters–expect more than 200 competitors this year. The Grand National’s judges include World Championship class adjudicators from Great Britain, Australia, Germany, Russia and the USA.
Ballroom dancing is considered both a fine art and a sport. Contestants come from all walks of life, and range from 6 to over 90 years of age. Many older dancers enjoy this discipline for health reasons as well as for the pure joy of dancing. This year’s dancers will compete in one or more events featuring various dances.
