Four great women artists are in the spotlight this month at the Faena’s Screening Room, in a cinema cycle of new and classic films, programmed by guest curator Jaie Laplante, director of programming of the Miami Film Festival. Larger-than-life polaroid portraits of Beat poets, Harvard scholars and rock stars have been Elsa Dorfman’s niche for decades and Oscar-winner Errol Morris takes a look at her career in “The B-Side: Elsa Dorman’s Portrait Photography.” Salma Hayek has never been better than in her star turn as Mexican painter Frida Kahlo in Julie Taymor’s “Frida.” A chance purchase at a Chicago garage sale exhumes one of the great unknown photographers of the past century, in the Oscar-nominated “Finding Vivian Maier.” And the earthy, passionate choreography of the late German choreographer Pina Bausch is captured in Wim Wenders’ beautiful and ageless documentary, “Pina.”
