ELEW
Eric Lewis was a decorated, up-and-coming jazz pianist, a sideman for Wynton Marsalis and Elvin Jones, among others, and the recipient of the 1999 Thelonious Monk International Piano competition. While jazz is his first love, it is the unique, unparalleled genre he invented—Rockjazz—that has made ELEW a recognizable name to fans, celebrities and brands around the world.
As a solo performer, and YAMAHA endorsed pianist ELEW has reinterpreted and reenergized songs by Coldplay, Nirvana, Radiohead, Michael Jackson, all the while treating the grand piano the way a traditional rock front man treats the guitar—with an explosively physical style that includes playing while standing and entering the instrument to pluck the strings directly. These exploits have earned him a faithful legion of fans, including celebrities like Josh Groban (whom he supported on a World Tour), Dave Matthews, Naomi Campbell, Forest Whitaker, Leonardo DiCaprio, Donna Karan (who included his music on her iPhone app, as well as multiple presidents including Barack & Michelle Obama (whom he performed for in the East Room of the White House). www.elewrockjazz.com
