October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, the Broward Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization will be hosting their main fundraiser, Step Up 4 Down Syndrome 2021 Walk & 5K Run. For the past three years, The Craig Zinn Automotive Group (CZAG) has supported The Broward Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization by way of Desiree Fries, their corporate assistant who has a 15-year-old son with Down syndrome. Desiree has participated in this annual fundraiser, because she believes that her son Triston and every person with an extra chromosome is extraordinary! “Triston has been participating in the walk since birth and has grown to know it as his walk,” said Desiree. Support of the Step Up 4 Down Syndrome Walk & 5k Run, by either walking the event on October 10, 2021, or by making an online donation, will help honor and celebrate people with Down syndrome.

To help kickstart Desiree’s fundraising effort’s, Craig Zinn has committed to donating $5,000. “This is our 16th year taking part in the Broward Down Syndrome Walk. We are happy to be back into the swing of things and able to have the walk this year. If you can’t walk or run, please consider a donation to Triston’s team, T-Unit. The funds raised during this walk will be used to give scholarships to kids and adults with Down syndrome,” said Desiree. This year, The Broward Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization hopes to raise $120,000.

WHAT:
The Step Up 4 Down Syndrome Walk & 5k event is fun for the entire family. In addition to the walk and 5K run, there will be rock climbing, a bounce house, a DJ, raffles and more. The fundraiser enables The Broward Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization to continue to offer services to families that have an individual with Down syndrome. This year, the non-profit will be covering the gate fee, to avoid delays entering Markham Park. Lunch will be served after the walk. The mission and goals of the walk remain the same, to promote inclusion in the community and celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
