Two Sisters and a Piano
A passionate tale of the Cuban revolution, art, and dreams written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Nilo Cruz
Written and directed By Nilo Cruz, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of
Anna in the Tropics now brings us a captivating play that takes us on a journey into 1990’s Havana, Cuba where two sisters, Maria Celia, a novelist, and Sofia, a pianist, are serving time under house arrest. Passion infiltrates politics when a lieutenant assigned to their case becomes infatuated with Maria Celia, whose literature he has been reading. Witness the enthralling cat-and-mouse game between Maria Celia and the charismatic military officer, whose infatuation blurs the lines between passion and politics.
Pulitzer Prize-winner Nilo Cruz weaves an authentic tale of oppression, the human spirit, and the intertwining fates of two sisters awaiting freedom in a world of shifting global politics. Maria Celia and her sister Sofia can still hear the rumors of shifting politics growing in 1990s Havana. As they await changes for Cuba as well as changes to their situation, it’s uncertain whether freedom will come through government regime change, Maria Celia’s far-off husband, or the military officer.
