The program “May I have the Pleasure†is all about Dance! Dance in Art and Dance in Music. From the delicate, graceful, controlled, yet deeply emotional Baroque dance to the most passionate, sensual and aggressive tango that remains one the world’s most fiercely erotic dances which are so often associated with death, lust, violence and sex.
The Program is enhanced by the presence of a large-screen projection of the Art works by Edgar Degas, Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo, Nicolass Poussin, Pieter Bruegel the Elder and Nicolas Lancret. Also included are illustrations from Il Ballarino by Fabritio Caroso da Semoneta (1581) as well as rarely seen examples of the complex floor intricate serpentine patterns and the dance notation with music from The “Chorégraphie†by Raoul Auger Feuillet, published in 1700. We will also be featuring “The Dance Instructionsâ€, “Le maître à danser » by Pierre Rameau (1748) which was originally conceived as a method whereby courtiers of the Royal court of King Louis XIV could learn the fashionable dances of the French noble style.
Dance music from the 17th Century’ gallantries Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Minuet, Rigaudon and Gigue to the dances of 19th Century Waltz, Mazurka, Polka, Polonaise and Tango
The program featuring the harpsichord and piano works by Weber, Rameau, Lully, Zipoli, Bach, Chopin, Albeniz, Rachmaninov and Strauss
