The next Downtown Hollywood Artwalk will take place Saturday, August 16th from 7-10pm. During the monthly event, participating Downtown Hollywood galleries and shops stay open late, offering complimentary drinks and appetizers for visitors while hosting artwork from an array of artists who display their work on-site for the night’s special event. Don’t be surprised to hear the sounds of a harp, a harmonica or a trio of ukuleles as live music on street corners complement the event, adding magical sounds to the eclectic scene.

During July’s ArtWalk, ArtCenter 2020, located on Harrison Street, featured artist Daniel
Pontet, who, by popular demand, has become an ArtWalk staple. Pontet entertained the
on-looking crowd with his impulse art, a fusion of music and painting, accompanied by
the rhythmic beats of performers from Hollywood’s own Resurrection Drums. The
dynamic team will excite on-lookers again with fresh work on Saturday, August 16th.

This month’s upcoming Downtown Hollywood ArtWalk features many exciting artists
including Victor- Hugo Vaca II, showing at the Cinema Paradiso Theater on Hollywood
Boulevard. Victor- Hugo Vaca II will be present and will be available to answer any
questions about his art. Internationally acclaimed artist Jose Rementeria will be featured
at the ArtsPark Gallery in Young Circle. Rementeria is best known for his work “Human
Beans,” traveling around the globe as part of the Coexistence Collection by the Museum on the Seam, Jerusalem. The artist will be present to discuss and show his new work.

Gallery 2014 will feature “Nature in Another Perspective” by Mago’z. Several artists will
be painting live in the gallery during Artwalk for visitors to watch.

“The Downtown Hollywood monthly Artwalk provides another opportunity for the
community to visit the Downtown Hollywood businesses, meet working artists and
purchase affordable artwork. This event has a great vibe and pulls in a nice crowd
including art lovers, locals and visitors who enjoy a night out,” comments Lisa Liotta,
Redevelopment & Operations Manager for the Hollywood Community Redevelopment
Agency (CRA).

The event continues to grow and is complemented by The Downtown Hollywood Mural
Project, another Hollywood CRA place-making initiative, where contemporary outdoor
murals are painted at key locations in Downtown Hollywood in an effort to enhance and
enrich the existing cultural fabric of the Downtown Hollywood community, thereby
attracting more art related activities, businesses and events. During the monthly
ArtWalk, mural artists can often be seen painting their murals live. This is a very cool
enhancement that has been noted throughout the South Florida arts community.

Fordistas is pleased to present Materia Prima, a collaborative exhibition by Argentine artists Pastel and Elian at the Yo♥305 Gallery in Wynwood. The Opening Night reception is slated for Thursday July 10, 2014.

In Materia Prima, Pastel and Elian explore the true meaning of collaboration by using individual aesthetics to find points of intersection in their work. While Pastel uses symbolism to tell the story of a 19th century battle and its socio-political tensions, Elian explores the geometric properties of art by analyzing form through the use of primary colors and space.

By definition, “materia prima” are raw elements taken from nature that are later transformed into consumer goods.

“With elements I talk about stories and I talk about cultures.” – Pastel

During the joint exhibition, a special, limited-edition quantity of hand printed scarves by the artists will be made available for purchase. Ranging from $40-$100 (at buyer’s discretion), the complete proceeds will benefit a South Florida Ford linked charitable cause.

Wynwood Brewing Co. Starts Artist’s Showcase with Works by Ernesto Kunde 6/14/14

Wynwood Brewing Co. Starts Artist’s Showcase with Works by Ernesto Kunde
THE VAGABONDSaturday, June 14, 2014 at 5 pm.
The WBCo. Tap Room
565 NW 24th Street
Wynwood Art District, Miami, FL

The Wynwood Brewing Company recently announced plans to start a rotating monthly Artist’s Showcase at its Tap Room. The WBCo. will feature solo-exhibitions of renowned local artists. The first show will be dedicated to the art of Ernesto Kunde and will open during the June Wynwood Art Walk.

Since it’s opening in September 2013, the Wynwood Brewing Company has been known for its support of the local art scene. Its Tap Room and brewery are a mini gallery of Miami’s best known street artists like TrekSix, CP1, Krave Art, Eva Ruiz, Kazilla, Ruben Ubiera, and Ernesto Kunde. The mural by Kunde, located above the Tap Room bar, is part of the artist’s “Miami Series” and shows the street sign of I-95 going towards Miami Beach. Continuing with the tradition already started with this mural, Ernesto will be showcasing paintings from the “Miami Series” on the WBCo’s Tap Room walls.

“My Miami series is inspired by the vibrant and unique Deco architecture and by the daily rhythms of the city. When I first moved to Miami 8 years ago, I saw changes coming rapidly. Many of the old buildings were being torn down or remodeled. My goal in this series has been to preserve a bit of history while at the same time offering tribute to this exciting city in which we live.” – Kunde explained.

The father and son team – Luis and “Pops” Brignoni – couldn’t be happier about starting this art series in the Tap Room.

“We envision a monthly show with renowned local artists in order to showcase and promote their work. Our vision for the Tap Room and the Brewery has always been to be an extension of the artistic atmosphere of the Wynwood Arts District. From our tap handles to our walls we are inspired everyday to create our beers like works of art.”

As part of the exhibition, the artists will be asked to create a WBCo “tap handle” that will be a signature art piece to be kept in the tap room. The idea is to create a collection of “Handmade in Miami” tap handles that could be later exhibited as a group.

On Saturday, June 14th the WBCo. will also tap a special cask in honor of the opening. An oak-aged Father Francisco with key lime craft will be served for the first time.

Ernesto Kunde’s “Miami Series” will be on exhibit at the Wynwood Brewing Co. Tap Room from Saturday, June 14 through Sunday, July 6, 2014. The Wynwood Brewing is located at 565 NW 24th Street, Miami, FL. Hours of Operation are Tues -Thur 2 – 11 pm, Fri. 2 pm – midnight, Sat. 12 pm – midnight, Sun. 12 pm – 10 pm.

Inside FACES
curatorial statement
Rochi Llaneza

Most street artists early in the graffiti movement wouldn’t show their faces,
and their visual aesthetics was mainly a font-‐based style. Much has
changed since then, for example, Gregos, a street artist from Paris uses his own face on walls across the world. In general, street art has become a rising creative industry with international influences.
But far from the common objectification we find in some of today’s street
art, this particular group of artists who are mainly street artists, have a
strong connection to these FACES.
The artists in this exhibition cite from iconic historical images as 2alas, to
controversial socio-‐political references used by Claudia Calle, James Brutus
and Evoca1; to the anthropomorphic imagery created by Julie Friel’s
imagination. Dan Walker uses found objects and re-‐uses them as palette to
create portraits of random ‘found’ people. Stefan Von Fouts recycles not only objects but also ideas in order to seduce the viewer to examine commercial fads and appetites. “The gorilla in the room” by Ruben Ubiera is a metaphor for what’s happening with street art today: “post graffism…the art no one wanted to call art, but its now staring right at you”.
With the fast paced world we live in, we sense that life is like a rat-‐race existence where everything is temporary and transient, example, street art on exterior walls. By bringing the message these artists render inside the
walls of an art space, we try to hold the missive a bit longer.

Wynwood Night Time Graffiti Tour

I recently went to an event in Wynwood thrown by Goose Island Beer Company. After it was over, Ed Roberts and I walked over to Wynwood Brewing for a beer (and back). I took a lot of pictures of the graffiti since I had never been in the area before. I know, I’m probably the first person to post a bunch of these pictures, right?

Works of art such as Rising Star and The Hour Glass, which visually transports viewers into a state of internal reflection, comprise the theme of this open-to-the-public exhibition. Through the medium of oil on canvas, Vera’s aptly named “Meditations” series uses bold colors to convey mysterious yet ethereal notions of spiritual transcendence.

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Vera studied art extensively both in her native country, as well as in Miami, New York and Italy. Based in Miami, the mid-career artist has displayed at countless galleries and fairs throughout Florida, New York and overseas over the course of the past two decades. It’s the Grove the way the Grove once was. The 16th annual celebration of the original Gifford Lane Art Stroll will burst into colors, smiles, and rocking music along one usually sleepy little block of Gifford Lane between Oak and Day Avenues (3200 block) on Sunday, March 2nd from 12 noon to five o’clock.

The event features more than seventy visual artists displaying their works on the fences and in the front yards along the demure little lane, including a number of the finest artists in the region.

Once again this year, all of the participating artists at the Art Stroll will be giving a percentage of their sales to two Grove charities—this percentage will be added to contributions made by the public and neighbors living on the block. The two benefiting Grove charities are the St. Stephen’s AIDS Ministry and the St. Alban’s Day Care Center in the Village West. Each year, the Art Stroll donates 100% of the proceeds to the charities. More than $35,000 has been contributed to Grove charities since the Art Stroll began.

ACND Prep will hold its inaugural People’s Choice Winners Exhibit celebrating the artwork of emerging student artists who participated in the school’s 5th Annual Middle School Art Festival. The winners, announced at www.acnd.net on February 14th, will be celebrated at a special reception at McCormick Place in Downtown Miami as part of First Friday Art Walk in Downtown Miami – a free community event. The special presentation at 7:30 p.m. will be followed by a tour of resident artist studios of Eleazar Delgado, Monique Lassooij, Andrea Beloff, Eva Avila, Andres Conde, Karen Kim, and more.

About McCormick Place:

The original building, constructed in 1924, was first a US Customs Warehouse serving as storage of confiscated goods and look-out post for the nefarious characters coming into Miami via the Biscayne Bay and the Miami River. The property was purchased in 1970 by Edward J. McCormick, Sr. ’59 (alumnus of ACND Prep) and dedicated to his father, Dr. James McCormick. Now, three generations later, Sean McCormick is reviving both this venue and the Downtown area, creating an epicenter for the cultural crossroads of Miami. McCormick Place is a vibrant production-based event space and houses studios of various well known artists.

Marina Font:  Dark Continents
February 6 – March 29, 2014

Dina Mitrani Gallery is proud to present Marina Font’s third solo exhibition in the gallery. Her newest series consists of photo-based, mixed media works that exemplify the artist’s continued exploration of the issues of gender, identity, and the woman’s body with all its shapes, forms, cycles and capacity.  Having grown up in Argentina, a patriarchal society that placed much importance on psychoanalysis, Font learned that “Dark Continents” was how Sigmund Freud described female sexuality.  This exhibition, which includes small and large format pieces as well as installations, illustrates the many facets, scientific and emotional, of women.

Font’s photographs of the woman’s physique are printed on poly-cotton and then embroidered with thread and yarn in symbolic patterns and mounted on wooden surfaces.  At times, Font uses found objects such as doilies and buttons to represent the traditional roles of women in the home. The laborious manual application of fabrics and embroidery represent the artist’s expression of her emotional experiences.  There are various works that are a series of photographs, or installations that refer to a woman’s cycles of fertility and how the biological phases are in constant shifting evolution. In her statement, Font writes, “Through this body of work, I am interested in unveiling metaphorically the truth beneath our surface, deeper than the external body, exploring and re-tracing what was once felt by it, as well as the complex relationship between reality and the memory that lives within.”

Marina Font was born in Cordoba, Argentina in 1970. She studied at the Escuela de Artes Visuales Martin A. Malharro, Argentina. She spent the summer of 1998 studying photography at Speos Ecole de la Photographie in Paris, and earned her MFA in Photography from Barry University, Miami in 2009.  She recently had solo exhibitions at The Consulate of Argentina in New York, The Deering Estate at Cutler, Miami and at Gato Gallery, Barry University. She has participated in group shows at The BOCA Museum of Art, The MoCA, North Miami, The Appleton Museum, Ocala, the Museum of Florida Arts, Deland and the Miami Center for the Photographic Arts. She was recently invited to participate in a Night at the Museum at The Bass Museum, Miami Beach, Spring Fling at Locust Projects and Abracadabra at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, FL. Her work is included in the Bunnen Collection, Atlanta, The Girl’s Club Collection, Ft. Lauderdale, the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami and various important private collections.

Dina Mitrani Gallery opened in November 2008 and specializes in international contemporary photography. The gallery represents emerging and mid-career artists, offers artists talks and lectures as well as photo-based objects and books. The gallery is committed to promoting its artists, as well as working with independent curators to produce unique group exhibitions.

The Miami International Map Fair, the largest map fair in the world, will return to HistoryMiami February 8-9, 2014. This year, the Map Fair will be hosted in HistoryMiami’s newly expanded facility, the former home of the Miami Art Museum, adjacent to the museum’s current location on Downtown Miami’s Cultural Plaza.

Some of the interesting, rare and decorative maps to be showcased at this year’s fair include:
• van Keulen Map (1780) – Drawn earlier in the 18th century, this 1780 edition is considered a landmark in mapping Florida, Cuba and the Western Caribbean. The level of detail was well ahead of its time, including unprecedented accuracy in mapping the Florida Keys. Also included in the map were inset charts detailing developmental plans for the city of Havana, as well as charts of Matanzas Bay & Hondo Bay.
• Popple Map (1746) – The first map to show all Thirteen Colonies, including plans for harbor development along the Eastern seaboard, as well as archaic spellings of names like the ‘Western’/ ‘Atlantick’ Ocean and ‘South’ Sea, which we know today as the Pacific Ocean. Comprised of 20 sheets, the Popple Map is considered one of the two most important large- format maps of North America published in the 18th century. At a time when colonial control of North America was by no means certain, this map made a profound statement of England’s designs for dominance of the North American continent.

Held each year during the first weekend in February, the Miami International Map Fair provides both the serious collector and casual buyer with a weekend to browse antique maps, rare books, as well as attend a series of special topical lectures.

This year’s lecturers include:
• Alex J.C. Johnson, Ph.D. – author of the new book, The First Mapping of America: The General Survey of British North America, 1764-1775 (London: I.B. Tauris, 2014). He is a recognized academic and commercial specialist in historical geography, with a particular interest in the mapping of Great Britain and her former colonies in North America and the West Indies.
• Margaret Pritchard – the senior curator and curator of prints, maps and wallpaper for the Colonial Wiliamsburg Foundation. Margaret has lectured and published on topics relating to the collection for which she is responsible. Her most recent publication was a comprehensive catalog of the map collection at Colonial Williamsburg, Degress of Latutuide: Mapping Colonial America (Harry N. Abrams, 2002)
• Susan Schulten, Ph.D. – professor and chair of the history department at the University of Denver. She is the author of Mapping the Nation: History and Cartography in the Nineteenth-Century America (University of Chicago Press, 2012) and The Geographical Imagination in America, 1880-1950 (University of Chicago Press, 2001).

Also new to the fair for 2014 is a free, ‘Map-tacular’ Family Fun Day on Saturday, February 8. The Family Fun Day is open to the public and features interactive map exhibits for the whole family, as well as a photo opportunity with Super WHY from PBS Kids.

Photos of the Bird Road Art Walk by Mr Q 305

There’s nothing like a cool Miami night to enjoy a stroll around the Bird Road Art District. No matter what style of art you enjoy the Bird Road Art District has it all. Add to that wine, hors d’oeuvres, Capoeira demonstrations, Cuban Rap music (raw, uncensored protest songs at their best; sung with the pain that only living under oppression can project)…and did I mention the coolest rolling art gallery you ever saw…

To paraphrase Susan Sontag -Art is a form of consciousness, which means that it is an understanding that is constantly in one form or another of evolution. Wynwood fits that definition and much more. Here are some images:

The dust and debris, delays, and detours that are everyday annoyances for people en route to work on South Florida’s highways are seen quite differently by Silvia Lizama, Chair of the Department of Fine Arts and Professor of Photography at Barry University. Equipped with a white hard hat, camera in hand, and an artistic vision, Lizama has created a series of photographs that challenges our perception and turns what we associate as stressful into something serene. She invites the viewer to: “take a moment to really look around — to see what’s in front of us; to see what’s in the shadows; to see the special places.”

This show is the second photography exhibit presented by the school, as part of its 60th Anniversary Alumni Artist Series titled, Through the Lens. Lizama graduated from Notre Dame Academy (the girls’ high school before it merged to become Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) in 1975.

The photos will remain on view through January 24, 2014 with additional gallery hours offered during Art Basel Miami Beach and Miami Art Week 2013. Regular gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Other hours are available by appointment by calling 305.751.8367 or emailing news@acnd.net. The exhibit is free.

“The environment Silvia creates is one of contradictions: destruction and recreation; past and future; monumental stateliness and ugly ruin; life and death,” comments Tracie Heller, exhibit curator and Assistant Professor of Photography at Barry University. “The absence of people and plant life, and the monumentality of the man-made structures, add an air of abandonment, like that of an ancient ruin.”

Earlier construction site images were shot in black and white, using a medium format film camera, and then the surfaces of the printed images were hand colored with photographic oils. Images in the latter part of the series are digital and colored using digital manipulation software.

“Tropical sunrises and sunsets add a dimension of reverence and splendor to the work,” adds Heller. “Now working digitally, she has applied her hand coloring sensibilities to the images using digital manipulation software to create the surreal hues of the sky and land.”

Handcrafted Tattoo & Art Gallery Presents

“Up & Away” Alex Yanes Partners With Ink Master’s Chris Nunez For Last Solo Exhibition In Miami At Handcrafted Tattoo and Art Gallery

Coming back from his recent sold-out exhibition at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles, local favorite Alex Yanes has no signs of slowing down, at least not until after his solo exhibition. Acclaimed artist, Alex Yanes, will present a his last solo exhibition in Miami, entitled “Up & Away“ at Handcrafted Miami during Wynwood’s 2nd Saturday’s Art Walk on Saturday, November 9th. Handcrafted is the brainchild of world-renowned tattoo artist and Spike TV’s Ink Master reality star, Chris Nunez. Nunez has transformed a 3,000 square foot space in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District into an uber hip tattoo parlor and art gallery. Once you walk through the parlor, you enter their gallery space, which also has a garage door leading to their outdoor patio. The multi-use concept combines tattoo enthusiasts love for ink and art.

“I had this concept of an open art space, as much open space as possible because I wanted to break the mold of traditional tattoo shops, the stuffiness and people having to work on top of each other.” He worked closely with designer, Sean Saladino, brother of Pride and Joy owner and designer, Mike Saladino. Chris continues, ”With the gallery, we wanted to do the environment where you go from the warm kind of eclectic reclaimed but comfy feel from the lighting to the floor to the walls.”

Yanes will exhibit new, never-before-seen works, as this will also be his last exhibition in Miami. The 3,000 square foot gallery will house over 20 of his strikingly colorful 2 and 3D mixed media works on wood including his custom, wall-mounted, Bluetooth speaker boxes. Additionally, he will be debuting a brand new customized speaker system created from a 1960’s refurbished speaker console complete with Technics turntables and his signature wood cutouts. Whimsical, yet relatable, Yanes’ art embodies an innovative use of color and imaginative subject matter that has become a staple in Miami’s Wynwood Art District.

Doors will open to VIP’s and collectors privately from 7-8pm and to the public from 8-11pm. Enjoy beats by DJ Rage Johnson and complimentary signature cocktails by Deep Eddy all-natural premium vodka and Perrier® Sparkling Natural Mineral Water.

Oxenberg Fine Art and Kelley Roy Gallery is proud to host the 3rd Annual ART MACtown. Over 100 original works of art created by the very individuals MACtown serves will be on display and available for purchase. The best news is that anyone can own a unique piece of original artwork created by a very special artist for the very affordable price of $50 for a 10” x 10” canvas.

MACtown’s mission for the past 51 years has been to improve the lives and further the independence of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in South Florida.

“ART MACtown was the vision of international artist George Rodez who first approached me about this project three years ago” said Violet Gonzalez of MACtown“. He came to us with a plan that we thought would not only help MACtown raise some much needed funds but also help the people we serve by offering them an outlet where they could get in touch with their emotions, inner feelings and express themselves through painting. The canvases painted would then be showcased at a reputable art gallery, giving our artists the opportunity to be seen in a world where they can sometimes go unnoticed. Rodez works with each and every one of our clients in helping them express themselves. Some of our artists are non-verbal while others have very little mobility, but it is amazing and nothing short of a miracle to see how they light up when they take that first paintbrush in their hands and begin to paint and create to the best of their ability”.

An exhibition space interested in advancing artistic discourse in Miami. The gallery provides a forum for contemporary art since 2009. Their focus is to invite national and international artists to exhibit and discuss their work along side Miami based artists. Dimensions Variable are a Knight Arts Challenge Grant recipient from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The gallery is a pioneer of the exodus from the Design District and increasingly unaffordable Wynwood to downtown Miami. Since relocating to the downtown Arthouse building last year, Dimensions Variable has continued expanding its brand of conceptually provocative and experimental offerings, drawing not only art lovers but also other local talent to join them in the neighborhood.
Dimensions Variable is run by Adler Guerrier, Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova and Frances Trombly.

Miguel Rodez Art Projects is pleased to present the second iteration of it’s focus on the drawing medium. The gallery’s initial show Drawn from Within was a huge success when it was unveiled in September 2012. The 2013 version contrasts techniques and styles that offer huge conceptual diversity within the gallery’s space. Curating such a show is no easy task; you will be the judge who will mercilessly deliver the verdict with a thumbs up or down. There is no in-between here.

As the previous show, Drawing Exploration II explores the versatility of the drawing medium and features works in graphite, ink and charcoal. Some of the pieces offered are huge works while others are huge only in their impact.

Elegant fluid lines guide the viewers through vortexes of the dynamic work of one artist. These are contrasted against somber thought-provoking pieces with a more spiritual spin. A refined organic morphism piece is bound to draw attention to itself. Other pieces take on the challenge of portraiture. Henry Flagler, for example, gets a contemporary makeover by one artist who treated one of Florida’s most famous pioneers to a gentle doze of deconstruction, while another work treats the viewer to the impeccable refinement of classic academic technique.

Drawing Exploration II takes place at Miguel Rodez Art Projects space during the award-winning Bird Road Art Walk, which is held the 3rd Saturday of each month, just east of Tropical Park. Open to the public every third Saturday of the month in this Historic Art District.

Viophilia announces the two night only group show “Can We Please Change Gears? – An Artist Cry for Transition.”

The group show features works by 40 striving local artists, who aim to make an impact on the local and international art conversation. Each artist differs in practice, however, all are up and coming Miami-based artists and present a glimpse into the future of the Miami art scene.

Artists like Atomik, Kazilla, Jeff Dekal, Kat King, Ivette Cabrera, Natalia Molina, Chris Valdes, Deming King Harriman and Buddha Funk will present a variety of work focusing on future, a new discourse on Miami and artistic transition. The exhibit features painting, installation, illustration, video, collage, graffiti and performances by Xela Zaid, Kendall Morgan and newSense from ArtOfficial, which will take place on the opening night only.

The works collectively explore the trajectory of Miami’s art scene while each piece individually represents a very personal examination of future perspectives and career visions by each artist.

Focused around a theme of innovation first time curator Tesoro Carolina promises an exciting exhibition inspired by the participating young and driven artists as well as by the community-centric concept of multi-artist studio Viophilia.

Viophilia, based in Miami, is a creative hive of individuals looking to create a more community based art scene. By hosting interactive art events and exhibitions, it leaves room for the artistic community to expand beyond their limits as individuals and work together as a whole. Viophilia is comprised of five individual artist studios and has a community space available for locals to host their own events and/or use for creative productions. Viophilia stands for the love of creativity and is built for artists by artists.

Free Mind Society is a group of thinkers that spread the ideas and principles of freedom, with a goal of ending war, as they feel there is no reason to ever be violent on Earth. Their belief is based on people and the liberty to choose life and the significance it holds, rather than attaching value to materialistic possessions. Free Mind Society promotes freethinking and the ability to value life over objects.

Free Mind Society’s art exhibit, FREE YOUR MIND, is comprised of multiple canvases of digitally altered portraits of prominent social figures in American history who stood for equality, justice, freedom and peace, each with an inverted American flag over the mouth or face, symbolizing the injustice each one experienced when they were assassinated… by another American.

During this event, guests will be viewing the latest additions to the collection, honoring:
• Notorious B.I.G.: One of the most influential rappers that beat the odds and came to super stardom.
• Tupac Shakur: Son of a Black Panther and a controversial rap artist creating new era in rap music.
• Trayvon Martin: Honoring his memory and donating the piece to his Mother.

For those who have yet to experience the initial collection, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Chief Black Kettle, Harvey Milk and Malcolm X will all be in attendance. Free Your Mind art pieces are not just your average walk through the Wynwood Walls; these art statements will ultimately FREE YOUR MIND.

“We can’t change the world unless we change ourselves.” – Notorious B.I.G.

Wynwood Art Group (#WWAG) is the result of the recent merger of Brazilian artists, headed by Hamilton Aguiar, with Gallery 212 Miami and Miami (art) Publicist. Gallery 212 Miami’s NY-native Pop Artist Michael Perez is partnered with Miami Publicist Caitlin E. Slayback and they have spearheaded an innovative program to provide a platform for emerging, mid-career and professional artists by managing monthly exhibitions that feature fine art, photography, design, sculpture and even live performance.  With a unique gallery business plan, Wynwood Art Group is essentially the result of this merger; a group of fine artists with great achievement in their careers forming a group to share ideas and to work with strategic marketing to create supportive platforms for artists.  Wynwood Art Group embodies the dedicated interest of its members in contributing to the formation and the history that will eventually be remembered by the here-and-now crowd as the significant art and cultural movement of Wynwood.

The gallery has been in business for 4 years in this location and this year was awarded 4th place by the Local Top 10 at [Channel] 10 voter’s poll of top local businesses.  The building has been newly renovated and expanded into a multi-use space now encompassing the entire corner of NW 24th and NW 2nd Avenue in the heart of Miami’s Wynwood art gallery district.  The neighborhood is famous for its art walls, attracting visitors from around the world who come to view and photograph them.  The Wynwood Art Group building boasts a new and fantastic mural on NW 24th Street by Brazilian WWAG artist Rogério Fernandes.  In the last ten years the almost completely abandoned warehouse district of downtown Miami has developed and blossomed into an art hub and the authentic gallery district that attracts masses of enthusiastic art lovers to its monthly Second Saturday art walks and annual Art Basel Miami; satellite fair to Art Basel, Switzerland and the largest, most successful and longest-running international art fair in the United States.

Spinello Projects Presents a Solo Project by Antonia Wright and Ruben Millares Grand Opening 7/13/13

Spinello Projects Presents a Solo Project  by Antonia Wright and Ruben Millares Grand Opening
spinelloSaturday, July 13th, 7 – 10 PM
Spinello Projects
2930 NW 7th Avenue
Miami, FL 33127.

Spinello Projects is pleased to present the grand opening of State of the Book, an interactive installation from multidisciplinary artists Antonia Wright and Ruben Millares. Wright and Millares transform the gallery entrance into the façade of a bookstore storefront. Behind the glass doors is an interactive reading room where visitors may sit, read and physically engage with books borrowed from the Miami-Dade Public Library System, private collections and the artists’ own bookshelves. The Florida heat in the summer becomes a New England winter – an invitation to retreat indoors to think.

The work considers the devaluation of the printed book in a society plagued by rising budget cuts to the arts and education, successive shutdowns of mom-and-pop bookstores and public libraries, and the rise of the e-book. It is the artists’ hope that the room will generate a dialogue around the changing role of books in contemporary culture, but also furthering a love of reading centered around and within the act of community-building. In addition to regular gallery hours, ongoing programming will activate the space for the duration of the exhibition. Wright and Millares will conclude the exhibition run with a live performance.

The sad, strange, beautiful vulnerability and (sometimes) painful faces of the human condition are all considerations in the oeuvre of Miami-based artists Antonia Wright and longtime collaborator Ruben Millares. Investigating the various politics and comic facets of natural behaviors both unique and routine, Wright and Millares examine these elements through a multifarious, process-oriented practice combining video, performance, photography, poetry, sound and sculpture. Wright and Millares acknowledge the layers of societal taboos and barriers between their artistic choices, and pointedly pushes them into the visual arts realm for the viewer to regard, question and/or enjoy.

David Castillo Gallery presents Lost Boys: Dogan Arslanoglu and Johnny Laderer Reception 7/13/13

David Castillo Gallery presents Lost Boys: Dogan Arslanoglu and Johnny Laderer Reception
175Saturday, July 13, 7 – 11 pm
David Castillo Gallery
2234 NW 2nd Avenue
Miami, FL  33127

David Castillo Gallery presents Lost Boys: DoÄŸan ArslanoÄŸlu & Johnny Laderer, curated by Claudia Mattos.

Lost Boys contends with autobiographical space; a type of space, both physical and not, defined by personal experience.

ArslanoÄŸlu’s photography and Laderer’s sculpture appropriate mundane imagery and materials to map personal and memorial experience. They create actual and aspirational sites, charting when, where, and with whom they have been. Articulated within these spaces is a nostalgia evidenced in location: a sense of home, particularly situated in Florida. The pieces in this show function as souvenirs, commemorating and bearing witness to times past and present. This is a cartographic exercise of identity.

Drawing a reference to Peter Pan’s Lost Boys, the show focuses on an exploration of youth and masculinity to draw out a notion of memory, experience, and home; in the end, the Lost Boys find home.

ArslanoÄŸlu approaches his subjects with a vernacularism that renders them placeless. These are images of his immediate surroundings and experiences; he is the unpictured subject of every scene. And this imagery becomes a log of sorts, charting the places — the friends, girlfriends, and experiences — where his camera has followed. He maps a personal narrative. Free from identifying markers, these images could have been taken anywhere.

Johnny Laderer, Personal Best 1, 2013.

Laderer’s practice departs from a more value-laden note: he creates work with found or discarded objects, or (put more simply) junk. The road is imperative to Laderer’s collecting of objects and ideas, and his materials reference his movement throughout the state. He is a magpie, claiming trophies along the way. Laderer’s is a practice of re-creating, re-staging, and re-claiming his and Florida’s past.
ArslanoÄŸlu’s and Laderer’s objects serve as the spaces for memory, allowing glimpses into a greater mapping of personal experience. And they are Lost Boys insofar as they attempt to find home, wherever (or whomever or whenever) that may be.

DoÄŸan ArslanoÄŸlu received his BFA from Florida International University in 2012. In the spring of 2013 ArslanoÄŸlu participated in the Wassaic Artist Residency in Wassaic, NY, and this fall he will be starting his MFA in photography at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.

Johnny Laderer received his BFA from Florida State University in 2009. Laderer has participated in group shows at the Hollywood Art and Culture Center, Hollywood, FL; Miami Beach Urban Studios, Miami Beach, FL; among others. Both artists live and work in Miami, FL.

Midtown Pawn Boutique Grand Opening 7/13/13

Midtown Pawn Boutique Grand Opening
pawnSaturday, July 13th, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Midtown Pawn Boutique
261 NW 36 Street
Miami, FL, 33127

Midtown Miami officially welcomes a new business to the neighborhood, Midtown Pawn Boutique, an upscale, revolutionary, Miami-style take on the traditional notion of "pawn."

"It’s like the Neiman Marcus of Pawn, the Mercedes-Benz of Pawn, the Tiffany’s of Pawn… you get the idea," laughs President, Adriana Hernandez, "it’s the complete opposite of the dark, cluttered, seedy places you may have seen on Law & Order or in the movies."

Indeed it is. The grand facade features a giant mural that takes up the entire front and side of the large brand-new building – one that took over 5 years to complete. The mural, created by Wynwood artist and girl-power darling, Diana Contreras (best known for "Sofia Rose"), will be unveiled at the grand opening.

The subject of the mural might seem an odd choice for a pawn shop, until Hernandez tells the story behind it. It is inspired by Queen Isabella, who, as legend has it, pawned the crown jewels of Spain to fund Christopher Columbus’ speculative voyage to "India," an investment so successful that it lifted her kingdom out of a crippling debt that almost ruined it.

Hernandez says, "It’s no different today. You’d be surprised at how many of our clients are visionaries or businesspeople who want to take their unused assets and trade them – temporarily – for the capital they need to invest in a new venture or project, and who were turned down by traditional banks. We offer a safe, cost-effective alternative for financing. The way we see it, we don’t make loans, we fund dreams, just like Isabella did 500 years ago."

Aside from the unveiling, music by DJ Maximus 3000 and the free-flowing food and libations, the Grand Opening features a unique twist. Guests are encouraged to "Bring An Asset" to the party and have it appraised – an Antiques Roadshow-inspired way for guests to jump in and learn firsthand what their often-overlooked possessions are worth. Valuation Specialists from a variety of fields, from art and jewelry to antiques and handbags, and everything in between, will be onsite educating guests on "the story of their stuff."

Midtown Pawn Boutique is the brainchild of the family owned Jimenez Group, a US-based collateral lender that has operated for over 50 years. The Boutique will cater to an upscale clientele with valuable assets who may have never before considered pawn as an option. In addition, Midtown Pawn Boutique will also buy and sell items out of the posh locale, including designer handbags, jewelry, watches and other upscale luxuries. Who knows, is Pawn the new Prada?

During the event, donations will be gratefully accepted to benefit Dr. Gigi’s Raise Me Up Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 that provides free recreational programs, family support services and therapeutic programs to children with special needs in the South Florida Community. Says Hernandez about their commitment to this organization: "My son is autistic, and I know firsthand how amazing the work they do is for mothers and families like me."

P2V Antoine Lefebvre & P. Scott Cunningham

Mike Diana: Miami or Bust
100 Ne 11th St.
Miami, FL 33132
www.basfisherinvitational.com
In 1994, underground cartoonist, filmmaker, amateur publisher and First Amendment champion Mike Diana became the first artist ever to receive a criminal conviction for obscenity for artwork in the United States. When Mike Diana was 9 years-old, his family moved from Geneva, New York to Largo, Florida. He began to draw constantly, becoming a fan of underground comics as a teen. Soon after graduating high school, he began printing his own comics, including the series, Boiled Angel, which grew to 300 subscribers mostly in cities outside of of Florida. This is a true feat, considering that this was a time before online social media. In 1991, a copy ended up in the hands of a California law enforcement officer who falsely linked Diana with the then unsolved Gainesville student murders. The FBI was alerted, Diana was investigated but Diana was ultimately cleared of all involvement. However, the hysterics continued.
The trial judge found the work “patently offensive” and stated,
“The evident goal of the appellant’s publication is to portray shocking and graphic pictures of sexual conduct so it will be noticed. If the message is about victimization and that horrible things are happening in our society, as the appellant alleges, the appellant SHOULD HAVE created a vehicle to send his message that was not obscene.”

The Guild Five Forty Five
“The Artist in Me”
Welcome to our newest Villagers, The Guild, Five Forty Five.  In early May, the Guild hosted a field trip of about 60 first and second graders in the Meet the Masters program from Virginia Shuman Young school. They spent a few hours in the Village, met some artists, visited their galleries and attended a letterpress workshop at the Guild. Artwalk will feature a selection of the work of the students, a showcase of photos from the field trip, a video documentary of interviews with the kids and the premier of the Guild Photo Booth. Be photo ready for the fun in the photo booth.

The Projects, North and South
“Catalyst” closing reception
Curators/artists Leah Brown and Peter Symons have brought together a diverse, international group of artists who are utilizing digital technology to create innovative work exploring our changing and often uncomfortable new relationship with the technologies that have become essential to the way we define ourselves. Projection mapping, interactive video installation, digital fabrication, and virtual spaces made real are combined in this immersive exhibition that spans both the Projects/South and Projects/North art spaces.

Projects/South is transformed by Psalm, a new, site-specific installation by 3PQ, the artist collective made up of acclaimed South Florida essentials, Sinisa Kukec, Freddy Jouwayed, and Stephan Tugrul. Using a combination of physical and projected space, 3PQ creates an immersive experience for the viewer.

Projects/North is a digital whirlwind of moving image and sound, where the viewer must engage with the technology to become part of the exhibition. Artists in this space are: Balam Soto, Amitesh Grover, Nadya Primak, Brian Davis, Jesse England, Claudio Castillo, Luke Jenkins, Arun Matta, and Leah Brown and Peter Symons.

In The Cube v.2.5, New Media Artist Balam Soto utilizes hacked game controllers and physical computing in an interactive installation that links tangible and digital reality.

Over the last two decades, Miami-based composer Dorothy Hindman has created music that delves into process, perception, profundity, and entropy. On her debut solo release Tapping the Furnace, her fascinating and ear-grabbing works are interpreted by some of today’s top new music performers, including cellist Craig Hultgren, pianist Laura Gordy, guitarist Paul Bowman, and percussionist Stuart Gerber. The result is a wide-ranging collection that touches on the visceral contained within Hindman’s highly structured compositions.

Yes, No or I Don’t Know Why, are common responses to questions. When the answer is ” On the Tip of the Tongue”, some call it “Presque Vu” or almost seen. To experience the work of Maitejosune Urrechaga is similar in character to these psycholinguistic phenomenon. For her solo show, Maitejosune explores through portraiture the universal experience of unconscious thoughts and impulses as yet unexplained by science or spirituality.

20 Shades of Grey and Reclaimed Miami Opening Reception 5/11/13

20 Shades of Grey and Reclaimed Miami Opening Reception
reclaimedMay 11th, 2013 from 2pm to 10pm
Zadok Gallery
2534 North Miami Avenue
Miami, FL  33127

Reclaimed Miami
Recycling has taken the forefront in our collective consciousness, from hybrid auto technology, to alternative power sources, to simply using the right bin for discarding our water bottles. At Zadok Gallery, that trend line continues in the work of 10 Miami-based multidisciplinary artists who have adapted their methodology to utilize a variety of nontraditional materials. Reclaimed Miami, on view at Zadok Gallery from May 11th to July 4th, is about imaginatively re-purposing objects all around us that might not strike the average viewer as fodder for fine art. Wielding innovative artistic techniques and strategies that include knitting, embroidery, silk screening, welding, crocheting, gluing, folding, appropriating, and stuffing, the group transforms litter into objects of literal beauty that offer an engaging visual reconciliation of material excess and environmental concern.

20 Shades of Grey
The artists chosen to be in 20 Shades of Grey at Zadok Gallery are at least 70 years young or older and have been making their mark in our city before Art Basel, Art Fair Week, Art Miami, or the graffiti walls arrived. Artists do not retire. Their creative juices do not stop flowing at the arbitrary retirement age of 65. The artists in 20 Shades of Grey are fervent and tenacious about their work.
This exhibition does not pretend to be a comprehensive survey of those contemporary artists in this age group. The sheer number of artists in such a survey would be beyond our physical capabilities. This exhibition does illustrate the rewards of discipline, hard work, perseverance, and a lifetime of dedication. Each artist’s unending and unresolved struggle with their life’s work is, in itself, its own reward. Each of the artists is creating a legacy to be reckoned with by the art historians.
This exhibition honors those who have dedicated their lives to their art and have achieved the position of Florida National Treasures.

Jillian Mayer: Precipice/PostModem
Project Room: Tracey Goodman & Valerie Snobeck: Out of Place
Curated by Joanna Kleinberg Romanow, Assistant Curator, Drawing Center, NY

Now celebrating its 15th year of exhibiting experimental contemporary art, Locust Projects is pleased to present Precipice/PostModem by Miami-based artist Jillian Mayer. Mayer is known for eclectic video installations that compress virtual, cinematic, and physical space. This will be Mayer’s largest exhibition to date, passing fluidly from cinema to installation in both the physical and digital realm while incorporating interactive and technological elements to create a nonlinear meta-narrative.
The exhibition will feature sculptural and installation work satirically exploring the concept of a technological singularity, the theoretical moment in time when the boundary between human and machine no longer exists. Mayer uses comedy as a means to inspire introspection about technology’s place as a surrogate for spirituality in our lives, and implies that it is quickly becoming much more, regardless of whether or not the predictions of futurists like Ray Kurzweil come to fruition. The various pieces of her show explore the ramifications of this impending change, from angles that range from sociological to parodic to sublime.
Works include A Place for Online Dreaming, an installation with performance, linked to an interactive website at Aplaceforonlinedreaming.com as well as Swing Space, another video installation featuring several performers on swings above the gallery floor, transfixed by a projected digital reality; and For U, a sculpture that exists in augmented reality and can only be fully seen through a custom smartphone app. Other works will include self-aware paintings, faux infomercials, and poorly articulated androids constructed of digital tablets and Roomba vacuum cleaners.
Precipice/PostModem builds on a body of work that began with the experimental short film #PostModem which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013 and was later featured in an independent film retrospective at MoMA in New York as part of the Carte Blanche series.

Gallery 2014, an exciting, new nonprofit concept established to bring the community together to celebrate, enjoy, learn and acquire exceptional artwork of emerging artists from around the globe, is a host venue for the worldwide April 27 Slow Art Day. The all-volunteer event has a simple mission: to help more people discover for themselves the joy of looking at and loving art.

At Gallery 2014, participants will look at five works of pre-assigned art at Gallery 2014 for 10 minutes each, and then meet together over lunch to discuss their experience at the nearby Cinquecento Pizza Gelato & Café. To sign up and for more information, visit www.slowartday.com.

Slow Art Day began after founder Phil Terry spent 30 minutes looking at Hans Hoffmann’s 1943 painting Fantasia at the Jewish Museum’s 2008 exhibition Action/Abstraction. The experience sparked an idea to help those outside the art world better appreciate museums’ offerings.

The newest member of South Florida’s art community, the Sanjuan-Brown Hollywood Arts Foundation, Inc. d/b/a Gallery 2014 provides an unprecedented opportunity for new and emerging artists from developing countries, as well as local and student artists who might otherwise lack access to the public, to showcase their quality, original pieces and sell them for fair value. Current artwork on display represents the talents of approximately 20 artists, including some referred to Gallery 2014 by Hispanic Unity, the largest non-profit organization in Broward County dedicated to serving the Hispanic population. On April 5, 2013, internationally acclaimed South Florida artists and jewelry designers will present their work in a pop up gallery in Downtown’s Historic District, marking the start of Downtown Miami Gallery Night.  The first venue will be the beautiful lobby of Ocean Bank.

This is an initiative by the innovative cultural tour operator, The Urban Tour Host, which features over 40 styles of tours of South Florida, including the renowned Urban Arts & Mural Tour.

“Art is at the forefront of any important urban transformation,” said Downtown novelist Raúl Guerrero. “The institution of a Gallery Night helps to define this transformation and helps to change the perception many people have of a Downtown Miami lacking culture.”

David Brown, founder and president of The Urban Tour Host, believes Downtown Miami Gallery Night will connect art with residents and businesses throughout the year and for years to come.

“Downtown Miami remains the historical and architectural jewel of Miami-Dade County. Downtown Miami Gallery Night will showcase this marvelous quarter” – Paul George, PhD.

The Urban Tour Host is an innovative cultural tour operator best known for “Miami’s Cultural Community Tours”, which offers since 2003 over 40 styles of tours of South Florida- including a Downtown Miami Interactive Walking Tour.  The Urban Tour Host also produces the popular Annual Downtown Miami Riverwalk Festival and Boat Parade—going into its sixth year. www.miamiculturaltours.com

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Maximiliano Pecce, born in Rosario, Argentina, 1978, works using different types of plastic materials and found objects. His work is based on cast assembly techniques, thus ensuring each work is abstract in nature with its various textures and shapes that comes from the heating process; yet figurative enough to decode in a symbolic way.

For the artist, his message is clear. It expresses and demonstrates the excessive amount of non-biodegradable plastic consumer goods that harm the environment.

Through ‘upcycling’ these discarded goods into works of art, he wants people to become aware of the great global pollution caused by humans. In creating awareness, he uses these plastic materials by drawing you in with his colorful and everyday objects.

Little Haiti Sunday Stroll Launches 3/3/13

Little Haiti Sunday Stroll Launches
yuvalMarch 3rd from 12pm to 6pm
NW 54th Street – NW 62nd Street, and NE 4th – 2nd Avenues

A leisurely daytime walkabout to explore one of Miami’s best-kept secrets

Spearheaded by Yo Miami, the first Little Haiti Sunday Stroll will take place on March 3rd from 12pm to 6pm, and will continue bi-monthly on the first Sunday of the month (May 5th, July 7th, etc.) With support from some amazing local organizations including Sweat Records, the Little Haiti Cultural Center, Moksha Family Artist Collective and more, the community is working together in order to help reintroduce itself to the general population. With newly renovated storefronts, extensive bike lanes, and ample parking, the neighborhood is a region ripe for exploration throughout the day.

While the entire area bordered by NW 54th Street, NW 62nd Street, and NE 4th and 2nd Avenues will be included, there will also be specific “hotspots” revolving around 54th, 59th, and 62nd Streets. With so much free, on-street parking available, visitors are encouraged to carpool down and then hop from place to place by car, or simply bike around. In order to take full advantage of the neighborhood’s charm, the events will take place between noon and 6pm so that visitors can appreciate the unique architecture and aesthetics while they explore.

A full list of participating businesses will be released in the near future, and there will also be artist-designed Little Haiti Sunday Stroll signposts up at each venue. Aside from the usual products and services offered by the participating businesses, each one will also have added features such as food trucks and tie-ins to Haitian culture and experiences.

Evolution: In June 2012, Yo Miami began hosting their monthly “Average Joe Art Sale” in their Little Haiti home, Yo Space (294 NE 62nd St.). There was a great response to the event with people coming all the way from Broward and further to enjoy a leisurely day of art appreciation. Now they’re bringing the Average Joe spirit to the rest of the community so that people can see not only what local artists have to offer, but other types of local businesses as well.

About Yo Miami: What began as a passion for art, music, and Miami has evolved into a positive force within the local scene. Bringing together creatives from all walks of life, Yo strives to shine a light on the elements of Miami culture that should be recognized and celebrated. Connecting venue owners, musicians, artists, entrepreneurs and media outlets, Yo Miami are all about connecting creative people with those in need of creativity.

From Colombia, with love.. four Colombian artists have come together to create a playful exhibition that celebrates their heritage, yet their work does not directly or literally reflect a latin heritage visual per se. Instead, each artist has brought in their own expression of art; segments from their most recent bodies of work to fuse together an explosively colorful & multi-genre exhibit. It intertwines personally with Cafeina’s Colombian roots and this month we’re celebrating the motherland.. with love!

Oxenberg Fine Art cordially invites you to this special program hosted by Cesar Santos, who will share his professional trajectory, art and experiences that have influenced the paintings and monumental studies featured in the “Artist’s Accomplice” exhibition.

Cesar Santos
“The Artist’s Accomplice”
Paintings and Monumental Studies

Cesar Santos (Cuban-American, b. 1982) has worldly art education, with works viewed around the globe- from the Annigoni Museum in Italy and the Beijing Museum in China, to Chelsea, New York. Reflecting both the classical and modern, Santos’ influences include the Renaissance, masters of the nineteenth century and Modernism. With superb technique, he infuses a harmony between the natural and the conceptual to create works that are provocative and dramatic.

In this premiere solo exhibition, Santos focuses on the influence of his studies in Florence, Italy under an apprentice of Pietro Annigoni (b. 1910-1988) who was active in the innovative “Modern Painters of Reality” movement. In addition to Santos’ noteworthy paintings and respective studies and sketches, a mannequin is also on view, representative of the mannequin in Annigoni’s works which signified the human condition in the modern age; Santos rescues Annigoni’s concept of the mannequin and gives it a new life in the twenty-first century.

As is the tradition on the first Saturday in February, the Third Avenue artists open their studios at no charge to the public. The next Annual ArtWalk is scheduled for Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 6-10pm.

The studios are located north of Broward Boulevard, on and around NE Third Avenue. There is free street parking along NE Third Avenue and throughout the area. One can walk to several of the studios or hop on the free trolley service. The trolley will circulate between the venues all evening and stop at each one.

If you are looking where to start, there are several options: just come between the four and five hundred block of NE Third Avenue (you can check the map on this site) or start at the museum of art, where there is ample downtown parking and hop on the trolley, or there is a public parking building next to (east of) City Hall on 2nd and 1st Street between 3rd Avenue and Andrews Ave.

There will be twinkle lights and banners and trolley stop signage at all locations. So come join us for a fun evening, meet the artists, talk about their work and about art in general. Maybe even add or start a collection of your own.

Let’s face it, most of us can’t hang with the De La Cruz’s and Rubells of the world. We’re resigned to putting up our kids’ work on the fridge or buying some not-horrible mass produced Target art to decorate our homes.

NO MORE!!

Come out to Yo Space and aside from having a good time playing ping pong on our custom table, smoking hookah, and/or hobnobbing, check out some great works by local artists.

We’ll have a fresh batch of visiting artists in the house along with our Resident Artists, selling everything from original works, to limited edition prints, and merchandise (Apparel, accessories, and more). The best part? We’re capping the selling price at $250 per item. You can walk away with an original piece of art to brighten up your place or to offer as an amazing unique gift for less than the price of an iPod.

Described as “an open source entrepreneurship (OSE) project”, you’ll get the opportunity to meet with their team and find out exactly what they’re all about. They’ll be bringing one of their fellow entrepreneurs with them, JoJo Tea, who will be serving free tea as well as selling merch.

Los Chamos is going to be out front serving up their delicious Venezuelan food (arepas, empanadas, etc) so come hungry and leave happy (I don’t know which fast food chain I just took that from but hopefully they won’t notice/mind).

Touching Miami with Love the non-profit that has been empowering the families of Overtown since 1995 will have their Art That Feeds custom painted plates for sale as well. $40 per plate provides them the funds they need to get 35 kids hot nutritious meals after school.

There’s also going to be a ping pong tournament starting at 3pm the same day so feel free to come out and take a stab at winning a trophy: https://www.facebook.com/events/500642286625807

Photographs by Bob Quesada from the Inaugural Opening Reception for New Art Fusion Location Salute To Art Basel Miami 2012 Exhibition on 12/8/12

The hundreds of people who attended the reception were treated to an incredible variety of works by more than thirty artists from all corners of the globe. From sculpture to painting to photography and mixed media, there was something for everyone.

Art Fusion Galleries, which boasts over 8,000 Sq. feet of pristine contemporary gallery space is a wonderfully designed venue. The Chelsea-style design affords the feeling of being intimate with the art. This is the way art was meant to be appreciated.

The family of the late Martin Schreiber, an artist whose work was on display, was holding their own celebration in his memory. His son, Dr. Andrew Schreiber, had produced and bottled his own private label wines just for the occasion. The labels on the bottles were printed with art work from the artist. The wine was simply outstanding.

Art Fusion Galleries is located at 3550 North Miami Avenue Miami FL .The exhibition runs until Friday, December 21st, 2012.
