The event will kick off with a silent auction and welcome cocktails, followed by the award ceremony and concluding with delicious lunch and live music. 100% of all donations collected at the event will fund No More Tears’ victims’ assistance programs.

Currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, No More Tears is a South Florida nonprofit organization founded by former Bollywood actress Somy Ali that aims to assist and empower victims of domestic violence and human and sex trafficking.

The roots of the band can be traced back to the summer of 2007, when drummer Ed Rosado and bassist Michael Mut first began rehearsing and composing together. The co-founders soon added permanent members Chris Correoso on guitar and Rich Dixon on trumpet / flugelhorn, and surrounded themselves with some of South Florida’s best musical talent. A decade, two EPs, eight singles and countless shows and festival performances later, Electric Piquete is one of the area’s most prominent Latin funk bands. Surfside’s First Fridays beach picnic series is back with a bash — Bollywood style. The Indian inspired beach picnic in Miami’s uptown beachtown is taking place Friday, August 4th. This not-to-miss family-friendly affair will feature Bollywood music, henna tattoos, healthy bites and decked-out Bollywood dancers. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to bring their kiddos to enjoy Surfside’s pristine beach and take advantage of loads of activities for children including art-making and oversized floaties. Art aficionados can partake in a walking tour of the InsideOut pop-up art exhibit presented by Perez Art Museum and stroll along Surfside’s beach to discover reproductions of masterpieces from PAMM’s permanent art collection by 15 renowned artists. The Elephant in the Room is an idiom for an obvious truth that is either being ignored, or otherwise unaddressed. The purpose of this exhibit is to provide a safe place for issues and topics that are normally hidden from public view. Through visual and performance art, the artists participating in this event will share secrets and taboos, discussing openly to find solutions for individual and collective emancipation. Attendees are invited to enter the ‘Confessional’, an interactive safe space installation to share their ‘elephant’.

What’s Your Elephant will be hosted by 1310 Gallery residents Niki Lopez, visual artist, & designer, and Alana DaCosta, multidisciplinary artist.

Featured artists include: Niki Lopez, Alana DaCosta, AJ Grossman, Ana Rossi, Cheryl Brown, Macarena Zilveti, Mila Hajjar, Cesca Veo, Alex Tuzinsky, Chire Regans, Tabatha Mudra, Jose Silva, Yudelka Tavera, Zeal Harris, Artists for Black Lives Matter collective and SunServe Youth

Opening night performance featuring: Alana DaCosta, Profound Breath, We’re Weird, and Nephii Love, Bishop and Venus Rising Drum and Dance Troupe

Lopez and DaCosta will also host an interactive workshop called “What’s Your Elephant”, where participants can use creative arts in a safe space to reveal individual or societal “elephants”. “The obvious is oftentimes ignored and swept under the rug. Some people may chose to never face it,” says DaCosta, who also has a MS in Mental Health Counseling. “Yet, we all have creative energy and have the power of choice to free ourselves of whatever makes us uncomfortable. Through creative expression, many can learn to address the issue and share with others who most likely have their own elephant”.
“It’s about acknowledging it (the elephant), owning it, so that it doesn’t define you.” Says Lopez, an artist and activist with her own elephant that will be revealed at the exhibit.

As a part of this movement, Lopez & DaCosta ask that the public participate by submitting their unspoken truth AND use the hashtag #whatsyourelephant on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram.

Community Partner: SunServe- SunServe is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit social services agency serving the LGBTQ community in South Florida. Mission: Recognizing that the entire LGBTQ community has the right to quality care, our mission is to provide critical life assistance and professional mental health services with an emphasis on economically disadvantaged, marginalized youth and senior adults in the greater South Florida metropolitan area.

Guests are invited to don their best white attire for the annual Masterpiece event, a chic cocktail reception featuring mixed media artist Cory Bennett. The party, called “20” for the museum’s 20th anniversary, will feature live entertainment as well as heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer and a signature cocktail.

“Iconic Neo-POP,” a new show created by mixed media artist Cory Bennett, will be featured in the main gallery. Bennett combines pop themes, iconic images and neo-expressionist techniques to produce work that is wary of modern society. Born and raised in Las Vegas, Bennett has his own unique style of art that combines an urban “street” style with the use of found-media, providing the artist with an endless supply of complex and relevant subject matter.

In addition to Bennett, the Florida Watercolor Society will be featured in the East and Kuhn galleries. This 46th exhibition will feature works from Iain Stewart and Bev Jozwiak and is also part of the Society’s annual convention, which will bring nearly 500 artists from around Florida to Coral Springs.

Miami, June 8, 2017: After great success at Art Basel 2012, the paintings by Michael Jackson’s chimpanzee, Bubbles, and many others will be on display for 10 days at Frames USA & Art Gallery in Miami. The opening reception will be on July 21, 2017 from 6pm-10pm where the public can view and purchase a very unique piece of original ape art.

“Purchasing a piece of original art by apes is a collectible. It creates conversation, it is a form of expression, and it is rare”, Adam Brand says, owner of Frames USA. “Not to mention that the proceeds from the sales of the art will go to an amazing cause”

Over the years, zoos and sanctuaries have dabbled into selling artwork at their gift shops by resident animals to raise money. However, the purpose of this art show, Apes that Paint, extends beyond that. It seeks to establish the fact that apes are artists without judgment and second that these ape artists are contributing to the fundraising efforts for The Center for Great Apes, located in Wauchula, Florida.

Aside from artworks from our star artist Bubbles, the exhibition will host other wonderful original pieces from celebrity apes. Among them, the art of chimpanzees from Planet of the Apes, and orangutans from the movie Going Apes, and NBC’s soap opera Passions. For the 18th consecutive year, the City of Wilton Manors will host the largest LGBT pride event in the greater Fort Lauderdale area. Commemorating the Stonewall Riots of 1969, the Stonewall Parade and Festival draws nearly 40,000 participants from across the U.S. This year, the marketplace, which will open at 3 p.m., will feature more than 100 vendors, exhibitors and food trucks. For the past couple of years, South Florida has celebrated Colombian Independence Day at MegaRumba Colombia. SWARM and iHeart’s Tu 94.9 have revamped the festivity into an all-encompassing celebration with a broader reason to celebrate at MegaRumba: Celebrate YOUR Independence. This coming July 15, celebrate YOUR culture at the, free, all-day event in Wynwood — Miami’s most culturally dynamic neighborhood.

The free festival will run from 3PM to 3AM. It will focus on South Florida’s rich and vibrant melting pot, with special attention to its deep musical influences. People can expect to see activities for all ages throughout the day with programming moving into a full-blown concert as the day progresses. Handpicked art/craft vendors and food trucks will be available until the very end, offering a little bit of everything that makes South Florida so unique and tasty. In the past, organizers have brought Latin Billboard winners including Maluma, Grupo Niche, Jorge Celedón, ChoquibTown and Victor Manuel. About The Leah Arts District
Hialeah’s Southeastern industrial corridor rose to prominence during the 1980s as one of the largest and busiest areas of production and manufacturing in Florida. As a result of modernization combined with the effects of outsourcing, the uses that were once prevalent in the area dissipated and this particular area was all but abandoned.
Since that time, a medley of different uses has been incorporated into the area including a heavy presence of some of Miami-Dade County’s most prolific thrift stores.

These thrift stores have been instrumental in introducing Hialeah to an entire generation of antique lovers and artists. The Hialeah Artist Live/Work Overlay District, also known as The Leah Arts District, enjoys a strategic proximity to the newly proposed Hialeah Market Station development project, Miami’s artistic hubs, and other destination areas within Miami-Dade County. Because of it’s location and highly affordable price per square footage, Hialeah’s new Artist Live / Work District is in a position to play a vital and important role in the artistic and cultural development of not only Hialeah, but the entire South Florida community.

Wynwood will see the streets come alive for the fourth annual Wynwood Life! It is held in Miami’s Art and Cultural District and is a true celebration of all things we love about South Florida – Food, Art, Music and Fashion! Twenty thousand people will fill the streets perusing art, crafts, jewelry and over 100 vendors all while being entertained by live art and music and noshing on local fare from over 40 food trucks!

WynwoodMap.com and The RAW Project will curate the Live Art Stage featuring a wide variety of street artists from around the World. The festival encourages students and emerging artists to take part in the “Emerging Artist Competition”. Wynwood Life is proud to have the Miami Art & Design Education Institute (M.A.D.E.) as the presenting sponsor, because M.A.D.E is known for elevating people’s art and design career to the next level by way of their industry-driven approach to education, through coaching, mentoring, and networking in the heart of Miami’s Art District. The Spot Barbershop will have a pop up for the men, and stylists will showcase multiple fashion shows by local boutiques, fashion bloggers including iShine365, Dyme Lyfe, graciouslylovedllc, Koko and Palenki, to name a few.

The Wynwood Culinary Showcase will feature top restaurants and chefs from the area providing teachable moments such as Chef Cesar Zapata from Phuc yea, who will teach us how to cook a whole fish. This year, the stage will also invite South Florida chefs outside of Wynwood who are taking the culinary scene to a higher level. Scheduled to make demos are Max Santiago, Bunnie Cakes, Crave Clean, Copper 29, and more. The Bitter Truth will have a pop up where they’ll carve the ice for each cocktail with a chainsaw, and they will also compete against Employees Only to come up with the “Best Cocktail” at Wynwood Life.

MCCJ is pleased to announce that this year’s recipient of the Hank Meyer National Headliner Award is Charles Blow, New York Times Op-Ed columnist since 2008.

The Hank Meyers Award goes to journalists who mirror MCCJ’s mission of creating an inclusive community. Past honorees of this award include Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, Barbara Walters, Tom Brokaw, Leonard Pitts Jr., ABC’s John Quiñones and Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd.

Charles Blow joined The New York Times in 1994 as a graphics editor and quickly became the paper’s graphics director, a position he held for nine years. In that role, he led the publication to a best of show award from the Society of News Design for the information graphics coverage of 9/11, the first time the award had been given for graphics coverage. He also led the paper to its first two best in show awards from the Malofiej International Infographics Summit for work that included coverage of the Iraq war. Blow is the author of “Fire Shut Up in My Bones,” released in September 2014. He graduated magna cum laude from Grambling State University in Louisiana, where he received a B.A. in mass communications.

MCCJ was founded in Miami in 1935 as the Miami Coalition of Christians & Jews. It creates a safe haven for dialog, trains inclusive leaders and promotes understanding for all faiths, races and cultures through education, advocacy and conflict resolution. Join us for the closing of Pink Noise: Flexing the Frequency, the last exhibition on view at the iconic 117 Girls’ Club building in downtown Fort Lauderdale, and performance by Jen Clay.

Downstairs, enjoy the exhibit and chat with exhibition curator Sarah Michelle Rupert, Girls’ Club directors, featured artists and community members.

Upstairs, flip through 6 years of Girls’ Club catalogs – all on sale for $20 – and limited editions from local artists – all on on sale for $20 off, and experience the launch of Pink Noise: Perspectives, an independent project by Girls’ Club fellow Tayina Deravile.

The 117 Girls’ Club building opened in the fall of 2007, renovated for use as an unpredictable art space by local architect and designer Margi Nothard of Glavovic Studio. Founded by Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz, and led by director Michelle Weinberg, Girls’ Club opened as the only private collection open to the public with a focus on contemporary art by women, in the world.

Throughout its 10-year history, the building has stood as a convergence point and catalyst for the growing contemporary art developments in the Fort Lauderdale and Broward County area. Its galleries have witnessed 10 major exhibitions of contemporary art, curated by emerging and mid career artists and curators. The building has hosted film screenings, artist talks, stitch and bitches, professional development workshops, experimental theatre, lectures, musical performances, parties, dinners, outreach workshops and countless student and community tours. Its walls have supported students artists, emerging artists, critically acclaimed artists, international rock star artists, both female and male. It’s doors have welcomed women, men, dogs, cats, lizards, students, children, carebears, and everything in between in an effort to fulfill its mission to educate the public, act as a resource and the nurture of the careers of contemporary female artists.

Downtown Dadeland, an urban culinary and lifestyle center, will be hosting its Winter Block Party on Feb. 4 from 5-10 p.m. to celebrate the recent unveiling of ‘Spectrum,’ an iconic 29-foot sculpture designed by award-winning sculpture artist Gordon Huether. Attendees will enjoy live music by the Miller Road Band and DJ Volkmusik, along with food and beverages from Downtown Dadeland’s culinary masters, including: Barley an American Brasserie, The Brick American Kitchen and Bar, Ghee Indian Kitchen, Harry’s Pizzeria, Pasion del Cielo coffee, Lime Fresh Mexican Grill and World of Beer. The event will also feature the StyleMarket fashion and art bazaar, and a meet-and-greet with the sculpture artist, whose talent for intuitively reacting to the materials and the space they occupy, whether indoors or out, has led to the successful completion of over 60 public art projects and more than 160 private art commissions. The annual New Year’s event at the Ritz Carlton South Beach returns with some “Cuban flair”.

The Ritz Carlton South Beach has long been recognized as on one of South Beach’s most stunning properties. This this holiday season, the glitz and glamour of old Havana will come alive for the hotel’s annual New Year’s Eve gala “Azucar!” Guests are invited to ring in 2017 in true Latin style, including an indulgent four-course dinner and poolside extravaganza in the heart of Miami’s famed Art Deco district.

Guests will be transported to an era of cabaret and haute-living known as the “Havana High Life.” The evening will kick off with a Latin-infused and sommelier wine-paired menu at Bistro One LR with dinner seating at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Starting at 9:00 p.m., the open bar will feature handcrafted libations, flutes of sparkling wine and signature rum Mojitos, shaken and stirred to order, with fresh tropical fruit, at the poolside Starr Barr lounge.

In the spirit of old Havana, Premium cigar maker Gurkha cigars, will provide premium, hand-cut and rolled cigars for guests to enjoy in the ultimate private lounge setting throughout the evening. A 10-piece Latin Orchestra band Mixtura will entertain guests, playing sultry rhythms under the stars, led by the famed Tony Succar. Following their performances, the New Year’s Eve countdown and champagne toast will be led by Miami nightlife entertainer DJ Malone at midnight.

Building CommUnity Party will Celebrate Growth of Supportive Space for Local Nonprofits!

Community residents along with local leaders across greater Miami are invited to come together for a celebratory evening at the Center for Social Change. The party is taking place on the brand new 5th floor, which is part of our Center’s expansion that has more than doubled the original co-working and event space capacity for South Florida nonprofits and social entrepreneurs. While Building CommUnity is technically free to attend, we are also fundraising for the development of a 1,500 sq. ft. outdoor patio with gorgeous, expansive views of surrounding neighborhoods. This 5th floor patio will provide a new venue for various community events, and if funds are raised in time, the goal is to open it Spring 2017. There’s a suggested “CommUnity Builder” donation of $25.00, and we’ll be engraving donor names on the patio’s railing when it’s completed.

About the Center for Social Change – Founded in Summer 2014, we house one of South Florida’s first coworking spaces and community environment for mission-driven leaders and organizations including nonprofits and social entrepreneurs. With affordable workspace options, meeting spaces, and access to events and educational opportunities, we provide a community of support in which to work, connect, innovate, and learn.

The Tribe’s annual Vodka Latke party is just in time for the Festival of Lights. We’ve got the vodka and latkes, you bring the holiday cheer. Join us backstage at the Fillmore Miami Beach on December 15th from 8:00 PM to Midnight for South Florida’s premiere Hanukkah celebration. Young professionals will enjoy a four-hour courtesy vodka bar sponsored by Ketel One and nosh on traditional latke fare. DJ ZOG – Power 96’s resident DJ and the only thing getting you through rush hour – will be spinning your danceable favorites all night long. This year’s event will be better than ever, so grab a friend (or make new ones here) and get ready for Miami’s signature Hanukkah party. Tickets are $36 in advance or $50 at the door, on sale now.

Throughout Art Basel week, The Wynwood Yard is giving Miami a place to celebrate and showcase local arts and culture–it’s all about Miami at The Yard. A host of culinary-focused events throughout the day includes Taste of The Yard, a garden tour, plating workshop, garden-to-glass mixology class and more. In celebration of Art Basel, world renowned sculptor Carole Feuerman returns to The National Hotel in Miami Beach, to showcase her stunning, hyper-realistic bronze sculptures.

The exhibit will be celebrated with a cocktail reception on Friday, December 2nd, from 6-8 p.m., featuring curated cocktails inspired after the artist’s 1920s sculptures, created by NYC mixologist & founder of “Punch & Pie,” Logan Ronkainen. Tapas will also be served by the hotel’s French restaurant, Tamara’s Bistro.
