Based on the story The Nutcracker and The Mouse King by E.T.A. Hoffmann, The Nutcracker is a captivating tale of a little girl’s Christmas Eve dream about a handsome prince, a mouse king, toy soldiers and dancers from faraway lands set to the beloved music of Tchaikovsky. Brought to life by more than 100 dancers, the performance includes the participation of talented children from Miami City Ballet School who will dance alongside this New York Times critically acclaimed Company.
Nothing short of a Broadway spectacular, the production features glorious sets, arresting costumes like the ones worn by the Arabian and Chinese dancers, magical special effects, such as a Christmas tree that soars from twelve to thirty feet tall, and fanciful choreography that takes the spectator into a magical journey to the Land of Sweets.
With its sumptuous décor and dazzling character dance numbers, MCB’s Nutcracker is a can’t-miss holiday extravaganza.

Ros Warby’s Monumental Dance at the Arsht Center 4/24-25/09

roswarby_4x9_lr1

Tickets and more info

MONUMENTAL is Ros Warby’s latest award-winning solo dance work, developed in collaboration with her long standing artistic team, designer Margie Medlin and composer Helen Mountfort. MONUMENTAL is a richly layered movement piece, continuing to refine Warby’s integration of the solo dance form with 35mm film projection and solo cello. It draws from the iconic symbols of classical ballet, the swan and the soldier, bringing focus to our own sense of strength and dissolution, amidst the often irreconcilable tragedies and the sustaining power of beauty in the world today. The audience is invited to engage, through the solo dancer, with the innocent bird, and the brave, sometimes tainted soldier embedded within us all.
MONUMENTAL, received the Age Critics Commendation Award, the Robert Helpmann Award for Best Female Dancer, the Greenroom Award for Best Female Performer and the Greenroom Award for Best Composition. It also received Greenroom nominations for Best design, Best Choreography and Original Concept and Realisation, and a Helpmann nomination for Best New Dance Work.
