CULTRA brings a little more culture to downtown in the first-ever roving, outdoor open mic in Miami starting on Thursday, January 19, 2017.

A collaborative event series produced by Buskerfest Miami and Emerge Miami, CULTRA is an opportunity for local performers in all disciplines to showcase their skills for fellow Miamians in some of the most scenic public spaces Downtown Miami has to offer. On the third-Thursday of each month, January to May 2017, CULTRA will be held in one of the Downtown Miami parks in an effort to put the “public” back in public spaces and foster connections between attendees and our precious bayfront.

The event begins with ninety minutes of open stage time followed by a feature performance by a well-known local group. Each edition of CULTRA will be a collaboration with one of Miami’s other prominent, long-running open mics and include a guest host. Artistic Vibes, who produces one of Miami’s longest-running weekly open mics, will host the inaugural CULTRA event on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Tina Hills Pavilion in Bayfront Park. Future dates of CULTRA are February 16, March 16, April 20 and May 18.

CULTRA is made possible by a Public Space Challenge grant awarded by the Miami Foundation.

Miami Beach Gay Pride will present “Soirée By The Sea,” the fourth annual VIP cocktail reception to raise funds to help produce the 2017 Pride parade and festival. Soirée By The Sea will feature music, an exclusive raffle, premium cocktails from Stoli, Herradura and Barefoot wines, hors d’oeuvres and many surprises. The charm of the Holidays fascinates all audiences, as Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida presents the classic ballet “The Nutcracker” to Tchaikovsky’s popular score based on the tale of Ernest Hoffman. The critically acclaimed unique production, choreographed and directed by Ballet Master Vladimir Issaev preserves the Russian tradition and serves as an alternative to those who already have seen Balanchine’s version.

This professional ballet company features already renowned dancers in the principal roles such as Mary Carmen Catoya, Daniel Sarabia, Lillian Hill, Hinano Eto and Kazuya Arima, along rising stars Janis Liu, Zihan Min, and Kevin Zong. The engaging choreography – from the fun of the party scene – to the harrowing battle scene- to the enchanting kingdom of the sweets – is guaranteed to entertain any age. Not only it is the most popular ballet enjoyed by all audiences around the world during this time of the year but it also serves as an introduction to ballet for the very young audiences.

The opening performance will take place on December 9 at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center running Saturday, December 10 and Sunday December 11 to then move to Parker Playhouse with a Nutcracker Gala on Friday, December 16th, offering a unique way to experience the magic of ballet while supporting the Company’s programs. On Saturday, Nov. 19, Miami City Ballet kicks of its Share
the Dance Community Outreach series of Ballet For Young People (BFYP) programming with an outdoor performance by the MCB School Ensemble in the City of Doral’s Downtown Park at 6:00pm. Thanks to the City of Doral, this family-friendly performance is free and open to the public.
On the program is the delightful “Carnival of the Animals: The Swansong” featuring the humorous music of Camille Saint-Saëns and a colorful cast of dancing animals, choreographed by MCB School faculty members Rafael Maldonado-Lopez and Geta Constantinescu. Throughout the performance, the audience will get an interactive look at the storyline of the ballet and learn about the movements of
dance.
This is the first of many performances of MCB’s signature community outreach program during its 2016-17 season. The goal of BFYP is to broaden MCB’s audience base and expose kids to the world of ballet. Most BFYP performances are specifically held for school children in the tri-county area, although a few are open to the public. Last year, over 6,000 schoolkids were able to attend BFYP performances.

Legendary ballerina Patricia McBride will be the guest artist featured in Miami City Ballet’s first Open Barre of the season on Nov. 16-17. McBride was one of the great ballerinas at New York City Ballet, joining the company in 1959 and becoming its youngest principal dancer in 1961. At MCB’s intimate studio theater, McBride will discuss her prolific 30-year career working with George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins. The second Halloween Edition of Bay Skate Miami is just around the corner coming up on Saturday, October 29th at Bayfront Park. Wynwood Art Walk has become one of the most iconic events in Miami, and SWARM, the creator of its epicenter along NW 23rd Street and 5th Avenue, is now poised to serve as an advocate for the Miami music scene by showcasing local talent. “We’re committed to bringing live music to Wynwood Art Walk, and much like our passion for all things local, we intend to give Miami musicians a platform to promote their music,” said Tony Albelo, partner of SWARM.

Wynwood Art Walk will include a main stage where several bands will be scheduled to perform starting at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, August 13, SWARM is hosting four local bands, including the sun-drenched, garage rock headliners SunGhosts and their debut album release party. The album was recorded at Cutting Cane Studios in South Florida and was produced by two-time Grammy-winning producer Joel Someillán. Although the album is set for worldwide release (iTunes, Amazon, etc.) on August 23, eager fans will get to pre-purchase it at Wynwood Art Walk, ten days before its official launch. This installment of Wynwood Art Walk will also feature live music sets by Alexander Di Leo, KIDS, and Magic City Hippies. As always, Wynwood Art Walk is free and open to the public every second Saturday of the month. It’s the best place to people watch. Miami City Ballet is celebrating National Dance Day on Saturday, July 30, with a dance party in Collins Park followed by an Open House across the street at MCB Studios to showcase MCB School programs.

Free and open to the public, the event is part of an annual celebration launched in 2010 by the Dizzy Feet Foundation and made popular by the hit TV show, “So You Think You Can Dance.” The tradition has since been carried out in Los Angeles and Washington D.C., so MCB is excited to lead the charge in inviting the community to its first-ever celebration in Miami Beach. The event will raise support for MCB and Dizzy Feet’s shared mission to encourage Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and fight obesity.

So bring your dancing shoes for an outdoor dance party starting at 10 am. Participants will be guided through a dance routine created especially for National Dance Day. The dance party will culminate with everyone performing together in a flash mob.

After concluding another amazing ballet season and receiving the best scholarly critic reviews, Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida will travel to Indonesia to be part of the 2016 International Young Dancers Festival.

This convention will set specifically in the cities of Jakarta and Surabaya from June 14th through June 22nd. The event is conducted on annual basis since 2004 when Denmark hosted first.

Ruby Romero-Issaev, company’s Executive Director, declares that since its inception, they have participated in this festival three times in Denmark, twice in Germany, three times in Poland and currently preparing to host the upcoming 2017 event taking place in Miami which also fuses with the company’s 20th Anniversary. The cultural exchange among countries is the main focus. In addition to a vast array of performances, dance conferences and workshops displaying directors varying manners and styles will be offered. Dancers involved will get to experience different tendencies through a multi-collaborated choreography resulting in a single piece of international magnificence.

Traveling to participate in this festival in Indonesia is a great opportunity for Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida thanks to the support of the Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and private funds. The American delegation is represented by our principal dancer Mary Carmen Catoya with Lillian Hill, Hinano Eto, Renee Roberts and Kayci Rodríguez. They will showcase Don Quixote Grand Pas, music by Minkus and choreography by Petipa and the variations for The Four Seasons, choreographed by Vladimir Issaev and music by Verdi. Guest artist Jun Tanabe former principal dancer for Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida and currently with Nevada Ballet in Las Vegas, will round up this production.

Director Marlupi Sijangga, a dance eminence in the history of Indonesia will graciously host and welcome Artistic Director Vladimir Issaev and his group of excellent dancers. Ms. Sijangga directs 30 dance schools in that country. As a Director of Marlupi Dance, she is also hosting represented companies such as Ballet Fouette from Polonia, Doris Topete Ballet from Guadalajara in Mexico, ESBN from Lima – Perú and Ballet Pirouette from Germany among others.

The festival includes high rank local officials of culture and the Consulate General of The United States in Surabaya, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchanges.

MIAMI – The Opera Atelier brings to Miami a program combining opera and contemporary dance. The original choreographies by distinguished international choreographer Leyson Ponce are elegantly woven into the riveting staging by artistic director Jorge Arcila, while the excellent cast features young artists alongside seasoned performers accompanied by musical director Daniel Daroca. Concept conceived by The Opera Atelier creative team. Xiomara Ponce, Production Manager, Virtual Scenery Design by Erasmo Colón and costume design by Luis Alonso.
Silvia Ludueña, Greisel Domínguez, Kiley Hernández René Fernandez, and Jorge Arcila, will interpret anthological scenes from Italian operas, including La Traviata, Aida, La Favorita and Giulio Cesare, besides other musical surprises.
The backdrop will be the historic 1911 J. W. Warner House, a jewel of Miami architecture, which is the seat of the Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center and The Opera Atelier. The audience will have a chance to experience indoor and outdoor spaces during this unique artistic experience.

This July 16, Miami will bleed yellow, blue and red to celebrate Colombia’s Independence Day with well-known artists Jorge Celedón, El Grupo Niche and Reykon. The all-day MegaRumba Colombia will bring Colombians together in Miami to celebrate their heritage. Everyone is welcome to join the festivities in honor of the land of beautiful women, great food and a thousand rhythms.

MegaRumba Colombia has invited a select group of artists to perform at this year’s Colombian Independence Day celebration, which will also include folkloric dance groups and a showcase of Colombian Paso Fino horses throughout the day. Step back in time for a vintage-inspired cultural immersion at Swyngwood in Miami’s cultural arts epicenter, Wynwood on May 20, 2016. Swyngwood’s mission is to inspire social change by bringing people together for deeper human connections through vintage swing dance and its culture.

In the 1940s, segregation was commonplace, but several Historians credit swing dance and music for leading the way to integration, bridging the gaps between communities. South Florida’s Sexiest Art Exhibition returns in 2016

Explore the fiery sensuality of the human form at ARTundressed – A Creative Nude Art Festival. Featuring works from emerging and established artists from around the world, the festival is part entertainment and part exhibition: a carefully curated showcase of truly creative, truly original, and truly erotic artwork, and a multi-day extravaganza with live music, performances, interactive workshops and activities; celebrating the human body and spirit in its most innate state. ARTundressed enables art collectors, enthusiasts, as well as the general public to discover artistic talent in both visual and performance aspects of the nude art genre.

• Thur. May 19th, 8pm – Midnight — The Opening Reception at R HOUSE (2727 NW 2nd Avenue, Wynwood, FL), welcomes participating artists, performers, contributors, staff and the public to mingle and enjoy a great night of reprised nude art, plus entertainment by some of South Florida’s finest burlesque dancers and sketch artists.

• Fri. May 20, 6pm – Midnight & Sat. May 21, 4pm – 10pm –– The Main Event is at EMINENT DOMAIN – (9801 NW 7th Ave., N. Miami, FL). Expect to experience something different each day with multiple themes covering Burlesque and Circus acts, and Fetish Performances. Get ready to join in the interactive activities and various workshops that are designed to engage the attending guests and convert them from observers to participants.

• Catering Services offering appetizing food, beverages, and cocktails
• The Closing Party: “the GOOD, the BAD, and the NAUGHTY” (Saturday night)
