In honor of Veterans Day, The Center for Social Change is offering a series of wellness events for FREE for veterans and their families, or by donation for anyone else who is interested in joining. Participants do not need to be members of the coworking space. All proceeds will go to a veteran organization.

We’ve curated an afternoon of events designed to destress and chill.

Schedule of Events

Restorative Yoga with Anamargret
Members at The Center often refer to restorative yoga as “Guided Napping”. Unwind, relax, and restore in a sequence of resting poses padded by blankets and bolsters. No yoga experience or special clothing is necessary. Participants often fall asleep =)

1:00pm – 1:30pm
Mugwort Tea and Chill Session
Settle into your Sound Healing Meditation seat with a warm cup of mugwort tea. Mugwort is an herb traditionally used to relax the body, clear the mind, and allow one to maintain a meditative state while lying in a sleeping position.

1:30pm – 2:30pm
Sound Healing Meditation with Christina Pearce and Brian Lemmerman
Find a yoga mat, snuggle up with some blankets, and enjoy the soothing sounds of crystal bowls, chimes, tuning forks, and bamboo flute music played by experienced mindfulness and meditation teachers.

What? It’s Miami! Catch up with friends and family while getting your afternoon buzz with fresh cuban coffee and light snacks.

Center for Social Change is located on the corner of Coral Way and SW 21st Avenue in the offices above Xixon restaurant, on the second floor.

The parking details below are specific to this event.

If you’re traveling by car: The Center has free parking (only for this event) on Floor 2B of the parking garage attached to 2103 Coral Way. If these spots are full, metered spaces are available of Floor 2A. Cash, Park Jockey, and Pay-by-Phone are all accepted.

Floor 2A is the accessible floor and has disabled permit parking. Electric vehicle recharging stations are also available.

There is also metered parking adjacent to the building payable with Pay-by-Phone and there is some free street parking in the surrounding neighborhood, especially south of Coral Way. Be sure to observe “Residents Only” and “No Parking” areas.

If you’re traveling via mass transit: Miami-Dade Bus #24 and the free City of Miami Coral Way Trolley both stop just around the corner from the building. Both bus lines connect to the Vizcaya Metrorail Station at Coral Way and SW 12th Ave.

If you’re traveling by bike: Bicycle racks can be found along the sidewalk in front of the building and in the garage.

In order to find balance in your life, you must clear your mind of distractions to establish a stable foundation to support you in achieving your dreams. Surrender and do nothing while letting gravity release your tension with a 2-hour deep stretch meditation session. Christine will guide the group in restorative floor postures and guided meditation that will leave your mind blank and your limbs limber. Light the Night, a nation-wide fundraising event, will host more than 5,000 people, including corporate and family teams, who have been touched by cancer for an emotional and uplifting evening that aims to shine light on one of life’s darkest moments. Together they join a massive cancer community of approximately 1 million people at 150 inspirational evening walks across the U.S. and Canada to end cancer.

Survivors celebrate by carrying white lanterns and taking part in an inspiring survivor ceremony within the survivor circle as a white beam of hope reaches up to the sky, illuminating the darkness. A Remembrance Pavilion honors those who have passed and allows a quiet place where family, friends and co-workers can leave tributes to their loved ones. Red lanterns are displayed for supporters, while gold lanterns represent those in memory.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to fighting blood cancer.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Pink Heals Tour is making a momentous stop in South Florida, offering support for victims and families of victims who have been impacted by the disease. Pink Heals is a firefighter program that travels the country in a caravan of pink vehicles, including fire trucks and SUVs, raising awareness and support, even offering home visits to show individuals they are loved and cherished.

Española Way, the iconic pink, Mediterranean-inspired street on South Beach, is hosting an arrival celebration for the Pink Heals Tour, and a portion of the merchants’ proceeds will go back towards supporting the organization. Guests are welcome to walk the beautifully lit street, dine at more than 10 restaurants, shop at specialty boutiques and enjoy a live Opera performance at 8:30 p.m.

What: VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, is offering an orientation class for new volunteers in the Boynton Beach area. Volunteers receive a free and comprehensive training, where they learn hospice philosophy, caring for the terminally ill, grief and loss education, and more. “A multi-sensory and inclusive event gathering leading experts that takes us on a journey to learn, experience and practice tools that assist people on a path to sustainable happiness and well-being. Through knowledge and new positive mindsets attendees can reshape their personal, family and professional lives.” – from the WoHaSu website.

The WOHASU 2018, that took place at the University of Miami, was a weekend filled with inspiring and educational talks about happiness. Leading experts in from various different disciplines, such as positive psychology, fashion, media, sustainability, economics, mindfulness, technology, and business, attended this year’s summit. The topics of the presentations ranged from sharing personal experiences and personal projects to talking about the science behind happiness. Of course, there were many more areas that were covered, but in some way, they all related to the main topic of happiness. This year, the WOHASU welcomed people from over 35 countries and 45 US states.

Every morning a few early birds participated in the outdoor yoga program, before attending the first talk around 9 am. Although the weekend was filled with many talks, and panels, there were also breakout sessions during which multiple experts presented in different rooms at the same time. This allowed attendees to chose presentations that they were most interested in. Attendees also had the opportunity to meet with coaches in small groups. These sessions were great for networking, but also for talking about the lessons learned and how to best implement and integrate the lessons into a daily routine.

Join us for the annual Bike 305 ride on the future Underline! This year, the 10-mile ride will begin at Dadeland North Metrorail Station and ends at the River Day Festival at Lummus Park on the Miami River Greenway. The annual River Day Festival will have dozens of offerings from food to historical tours on the banks of the river. The return bike trip is not escorted, but, you can always opt to take your bike back on the Metrorail!

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run presented by Turkish Airlines, a three circuit 5K (3.1 mile) Run Walk, will once again wind its way through the streets of Downtown Fort Lauderdale. Known as “Florida’s Largest Office Party”, the run is open to employees of businesses, corporations, government agencies, financial institutions and non-profits – regardless of company size – and incorporates a special competition to award the overall men’s, women’s and co-ed teams in 20 different industries. Westfield Broward is launching their Beauty and Balance program during the entire month of March featuring month long retailer promotions to promote Beauty, Health and Wellness to the local community. Texas Two Step CPR is an annual event whose purpose is to engage the public and educate them on the benefits of compressions-only/hands-only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

During 5-minute training sessions, participants learned how to act quickly in the event of cardiac emergencies by following two easy steps: 1) Call 911 and 2) Initiate hands-only CPR.

Compressions-only CPR is easy to perform, and can be done by the layman in emergency situations in order to buy time until Emergency Medical Services arrive.
The event was created by a group of medical students in 2016 after recognizing the need to train more Texans in lifesaving, hands-only CPR. In its inaugural year the event trained more than 4,200 individuals.

To date, this project has trained over 10,000 people in the use of compressions-only CPR with the help of more than 1000 medical students.

Cupid’s Undie Run, the world’s largest underwear run, will return to Miami on Saturday, February 10th.  Runners will strip down to join in on a “brief” one mile-ish fun run taking place in Wynwood. Runners can start a team with friends, join one or run solo.

Miami is one of 36 cities to host the run and will help raise awareness of neurofibromatosis (NF), a genetic disorder that affects 1 in every 3,000 children born. All net proceeds will help fund the Children’s Tumor Foundation (CTF).
