Good karma and a pool party this Sunday Kids welcome 9/12/10

Hello friends, here is a great way to enjoy your Sunday morning….at the park for a nice walk, some light brunch and a dip in the pool.

Please join us this Sunday, September 12th @ 9am @ Tamiami Park for a 5K Awareness Walk. We are walking on behalf of those families that have Huntington’s Disease, a rare genetic neurological disease. If you mixed Alherimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS, you would have Huntington’s Disease.

Even though this disease is rare, it does not make it is any less impactful to the people going through it.

REGISTRATION IS FREE…but a small donation is suggested.
To pre-register, go to: www.firstgiving.com/hdsa-sfl
or just show up at the pool at Tamiami Park between 8am and 9am

As for Huntington’s Disease, is as devastating as it is destructive. Because it is genetic, if it runs in your family tree, you have a 50/50 chance of developing it. I know families that have a father taking care of his wife and his son at the same time because both of them have HD! It’s intense. I can explain HD and if effects but I didn’t truly understand until I started watching videos of
families sharing their intimate stories of their loved ones. The footage may be hard to watch but will help you realize why we are all so dedicated in making a cure a reality.

What if you woke up one summer day and discovered that the tables had been turned – that you had shrunk to the size of an ant, and towering above you were a giant spider, an enormous praying mantis, and a huge, snapping Venus flytrap? No, it is not another sequel to “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.”

It is the Florida premiere of Sarruga, Barcelona’s famed street theater group. Spectacular giant insects will cavort in an indoor show filled with music, lights and movement. The City of Miami Beach’s acclaimed Arts in the Parks series moves into the Miami Beach Convention Center for Sarruga’s spectacular “Insects.” This unique, not-to-be-missed entertainment will be held July 22 – 25 in Hall B. The family event is free.

“We’re so excited,” said Max Sklar, Miami Beach’s director of Tourism and Cultural Development. “We had hoped to bring Sarruga for the first Sleepless Night. When we heard they were coming to perform in Chicago’s Millennium Park this summer, we jumped on the chance to present them to the people of South Florida.”

“Insects” is made possible by the City of Miami Beach Department of Tourism and Cultural Development and Arts in the Parks, with Centro Cultural Español, the Bass Museum of Art, and the Catalina Hotel and Beach Club.

Kids for Kids An extraordinary fundraising event for the whole family 12/12/09

sze-brkll-SofM-evite
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12th, 3PM
As the Holiday season approaches, we are reminded of our many blessings as well as the challenges faced by other families. This time of year is also symbolic of hope and it is in this spirit that we have joined forces this year with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with the support of Romero Britto and Saks Fifth Avenue and many others to host “Kids for Kids- A Season of Miracles”, a fundraiser event benefiting St. Jude.
With the goal of instilling benevolent values and inspiring the next generation to give, the “Kids for Kids” is also an opportunity for our children to bring a gift for the children of St. Jude. To ensure that gifts are appropriate for the special needs of many of these children, please be sure to adhere to the gift guidelines below. Although the primary goal is to raise money for the hospital, we ask that you encourage your children to bring a gift to donate. It is a small price for an invaluable and rewarding life lesson.
This is a family event and activities for the little ones will include photos with Santa Claus, face painting, complimentary cotton candy and popcorn, entertainers, toys, games for children, live band playing Christmas music, and will end with the official lighting of the Segafredo Christmas tree.
This is an extraordinary fundraising effort to raise money for St. Jude. St. Jude will hold an onsite SILENT AUCTION featuring products from a variety of sponsors including:Saks Fifth Avenue, Genius Jones, Milan Kitchens, Venue Magazine, Segafredo Brickell and many more. In addition to this, St. Jude will set up a registration table where they will be accepting donations by checks and cash with 100% of the proceeds going directly to St. Jude Research Hospital

The event will take place on Saturday, December 12th starting at 3 PM at Segafredo Brickell, 1421 S. Miami Avenue in Brickell.

About St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital:
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of its founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.
