Juarez, who won his first graded stakes aboard Valid, adopted the gelding when his return to the races was unsuccessful in Nebraska. Juarez will also attend Breakfast at Gulfstream.

Throughout the day Gulfstream will share stories of retired Thoroughbreds in new careers, including two recently-adopted from Florida TRAC by two-time bronze medal winning U.S. Pan American Team rider Todd Minikus.

Orchestra Miami’s Nicklaus Children’s Family Fun Series concludes at 3 PM on Sunday, March 25th with “Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant” and “ A Treeful of Monkeys”, two delightful and witty pieces for children performed by the chamber ensemble of Orchestra Miami and narrator.
What do you get when you mix a tuba with a baboon? A tubaboon! Prepare to explore a wilderness where birds, beasts, vegetables and flowers have been mysteriously scrambled together to create creatures you’ve never seen before! Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant is based on the award-winning children’s book of the same name by poet Jack Prelutsky, with music composed by Lucas Richman. Known as the “Children’s Poet Laureate” Mr. Prelutsky is the pre-eminent author of silly poems for kids. This mash-up of inanimate objects with animals will have you giggling and trying to guess what comes next!
A Treeful of Monkeys is composed by Daniel Dorff, and based on a traditional African Folk Tale about a hat seller who takes a nap under a tree and wakes up to discover that all the monkeys are wearing his hats! How will he get them back? Find out in this charming and fun piece.
Both pieces are performed by the chamber ensemble of Orchestra Miami, featuring Orlando Forte on the violin, Stanley Spinola on the French Horn, Robert Deutsch on the Cello, Christine Pascual-Fernandez on the Clarinet, Mark Schubert on percussion and Elaine Rinaldi on the piano, and narrated by Carbonell Award winning actor Chaz Mena.
The performance takes place on Sunday, March 25, 3:00 PM at Pinecrest Gardens, 11000 SW 57 Avenue, Pinecrest, 33156. Come early for the instrument petting zoo provided by Allegro Music Center and stay after for juice and cookies! Grillin N’ Chillin kicks off BBQ season with a full-blown countryside event that’s free for the entire family. Whether you’re craving backyard barbecue spare ribs, a southern brisket or a mouthwatering pulled pork sandwich, Grillin N Chillin has compiled 40-50 BBQ vendors from around town offering everything from Memphis style barbecue to Brazilian churrasco. Celebrating its 4th anniversary, this year’s festival will take place at the Wynwood Marketplace, more commonly known for hosting Wynwood Art Walk’s block party.

At Grillin’s Kitchen Lab, South Florida’s premier pit masters will take center stage to smoke the competition out at this year’s BBQ Cook Off. In between cooking demos, their saucy host will perform a ROAST comedy show. In addition, they will pit two local backyard chefs and their best burger recipe at Miami’s Best Backyard Burger competition. Those interested in participating should register their recipe at WynwoodBBQFest.com. For the first time ever, Grillin N’ Chillin will have a Veggie Corner, where Miami’s top, vegetarian and vegan eateries will showcase their menu. While kids enjoy the Family Fun Zone, adults can relax at The Pit, a pop-up BBQ-infused sports bar that will have bars and live music, or they can “Get Lost in the Sauce” at the huge sauce bar. Be sure to pick up some SWARM Bar Bucks online to save money on mixed drinks (($25 for $45 value at the bar). Also, bring your furry pups, because the Hot Dogz playground will have plenty of treats for them to enjoy. In addition, the Animal Adoption Truck will be on site for those looking to take home a pet. To round off a day of good BBQ, Grillin N’ Chillin has compiled a number of popular dessert vendors who will be ready to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Perhaps the coolest feature at this year’s Grillin N’ Chillin is both the humanitarian and ecological stand that it’s going to take. SWARM, the creators of this festival, will set up a Miami Rescue Mission tent, so that people can sponsor a meal for a hungry person. In addition, it will be “going green” by partnering with Debris Free Oceans to become a zero-waste event. “To date, no other event in South Florida has taken this into consideration, so we’re excited to have proper sorting, composting and recycling stations in addition to other green efforts,” says Tony Albelo, CEO at SWARM.

Seven Fun-Filled Themed Weekends, Variety of Acts & Performances

Here ye! Here ye! All ye Kings and Queens, Knights and Nobles – and the rest of you wenches and barbarians! You are hereby notified by royal proclamation that your attendance is requested at the 26th annual Florida Renaissance Festival taking place from February 10th through March 25th, in the two-thousandth and eighteenth year A.D in the vast open land of Deerfield Beach’s Quiet Waters Park.

The iconic Florida Renaissance Festival will ring in its 26th season, and, for the third year in a row, will offer an extraordinary SEVEN theme-filled weekends as well as a fantastical journey back in time with a variety of fan favorite acts and performances. Upon stepping inside the gates of our village, attendees will be transported back to 16th-century Europe where they will find jesters, jugglers and jousting knights along with music, costumed characters, human powered games, artisan craft shops and enough food & drink for a royal family feast! It’s a full day of fun and entertainment where the entire family can experience the magic of the Renaissance era through an immersive interactive, real audience-participation scenario.

The Florida Renaissance Festival has grown into one of the nation’s most beloved events dedicated to recreating the historical era of the Renaissance, each year adding more entertainment and themed weekends while welcoming a crowd that has swelled over the years to nearly 100,000 annual attendees, and with more than two million people having participated over the course of the Festival’s 26 years.

“Being able to provide this alternate universe where attendees can immerse themselves in the rich history that is the Renaissance is something my team and I take great pride in,” said Bobby Rodriguez, Founder and Producer of the Florida Renaissance Festival. “We are proud to have the continuous support of the county, the city and our community which enables us to grow this event each year, resulting in a culturally enriching festival for people of all ages.”

Rodriguez has continuously raised the bar when it comes to incorporating new experiences into the Festival. Through his forward-thinking, he has set the standard for festivals of this nature to go “beyond Renaissance” by booking a variety of acts ranging from the Orient to Africa, as well as diversified themed weekends. In fact, this year’s Festival will introduce two newly themed weekends!

The Florida Renaissance Festival 2018 themed weekends include:

* Swashbucklers and Sirens – February 10th – 11th
Shiver me timbers! This Pirate-themed opening weekend sees our village overrun with buccaneers and scallywags. Unearth the mysteries of the sea as sirens lure sailors and pirates alike. Anyone not prepared for a “salty” good time will be sent to walk the plank.

* Time Travelers’/Steampunk Weekend – February 17th – 19th
If you like donning a top hat, vest, breeches, and monocle, then board your favorite 18th-century submarine or fantasy-like hot air balloon and zoom for this weekend dedicated to adventurers across the centuries. Bring your brassies Victorian “gears” and join us for “Steampunkin'” good time! Open on President’s Day, Monday February 19th!

* Vikings and Barbarians – February 24th and 25th

Only the strongest and most courageous warriors will brave through this weekend. Norwegian brothers and sisters emerge from the mist on an icy wind, battleaxes in hand, donned in leather and fur during this chilling weekend.

* Bodacious Bodices & Wenches – March 3rd and 4th

Behind every good man is a wench in the trench. Wenches Weekend celebrates the women of the Renaissance with hourglass curves and firey attitudes who can go toe-to-toe with their male counterparts.

* International Weekend – March 10th and 11th
Yet another newly themed weekend! International Weekend celebrates all the exotic cultures that influenced the Renaissance in Europe through exploration and trade. From the Ottoman Empire to the Arabian peninsula, from Africa to the Orient, Polynesia and the New World, this weekend weaves in the impact that other exotic cultures left on this magnificent period.

* Kilts & Colleens – March 17th & 18th
Sing, dance and be merry in your finest kilt whilst bagpipes blare throughout the Shire. Celebrate the Celtic traditions of the Irish, Scots, Cornish and Welsh during this uniquely themed weekend that honors this group of European tribes that existed during the Iron Age through Medieval Times!

* Witches, Warlocks and all about Harry Potter – March 24th and 25th
Expecto Patronum! Bring on your baddest Patronus and chase away pesky dementors during this final themed weekend! Only the most magical witches and wizards in the village can conquer that which should not be mentioned! Wingardium Leviosa your butt off the couch as you won’t want to miss out on this most magical weekend. Muggles are welcome!

The 2018 season also includes a variety of fan favorite acts and performances with an invigorating entertainment lineup that includes something for everyone.

The Florida Renaissance Festival 2018 Acts & Performances include:

* History of Chivalry – Live Steel Fighting
Join the History of Chivalry and experience the excitement of yesteryear as fully armored knights go to battle for their honor. Experience real Medieval style combat at its hardest and finest!

* Blue Mermaid Designs
Gaze upon these legendary, beautiful aquatic creatures as they frolic both under the water and above the sea while captivating audiences. But beware as legend has it their beauty can lure sailors to their underwater palace for eternity!

* Cirque Brava
A visual delight for the whole family! Two high-flying, wise-crackin’ acrobats who defy gravity through their aerial performances.

* Stary Olsa
A medieval Belarusian music band of six who mix early Belarusian instruments sound with all-European mediaeval instruments such as lute, rebec, cister, flute and Arabic drum.

* Thom Bedlam – Pirate close-up magician
Not your average rabbit-puller, this pirate magician will delight with a full spectrum of magic that will keep audiences guessing. A spectacular stage illusion show for the whole family.

* Anger of the Mistress – Trebouchet
Come witness an amazing demonstration of a medieval trebouchet – a catapult used to smash castle walls or throw projectiles over them. Definitely a powerful tool for a Medieval woman scorned!

The Florida Renaissance Festival is produced by the nationally acclaimed Bobby Rodriguez Productions and strives to create an entertaining and cultural experience for adults and children alike. The sponsors of the 2018 Florida Renaissance Festival Comcast, Warsteiner, Guinness, Pepsi-Cola and Funky Buddha Brewery.

Prices range from $25 for adults and $12 for children ages 6 to 11 years of age. Children 5 and younger are free. Special seasonal passes are available for $106 (adults), $59 (children) and group ticket rates are also offered.

from her ocean-themed children’s book series Seaper Powers! Great for kids ages 5-9, the Seaper Powers series communicates positive messages about self-confidence, friendship, and the environment. The children will journey with Kim and Emma through the ocean, tumbling across waves to discover treasure with the help of new sea critter friends along the way. Guests will enjoy a puppet reading, short movie based on the book, and a meet-and-greet / Q&A session with the author.

Seaper Powers: In Search of Bleu Jay’s Treasure is a magical tale about a little girl, Emma, who discovers special seagrass off the island of St. Thomas. The magical grass gives her the power to talk to fish! Not only does she make new friends; she also sets off on a new adventure to find buried treasure!

Kim Cameron is a true believer in inspiring and nurturing kids. She is a vocal instructor/mentor with Guitars Over Guns and often takes her students to perform with her at local community events. While on tour in the Caribbean, she met a 12-year-old girl who had a fascination with octopi. This brief encounter inspired the creation of Mr. Octopus, a children’s tune featuring an 8-year-old whom Kim had signed to her record label. After completing the song, her co-writer and guitarist, John DePatie, encouraged her to take it to next level by writing a children’s book using the song as the basis of the story. They called the book Seaper Powers: In Search of Bleu Jay’s Treasure. Kim Cameron is also a 2-time Billboard Top 20 dance recording artist.

Find out as Orchestra Miami’s Nicklaus Children’s Pinecrest Outpatient Center Family Fun Concert Series begins with The Composer is Dead, a murder mystery for the whole family from the twisted mind of Lemony Snicket!! This hysterically funny, tongue-in-cheek introduction to the orchestra, with music by Nathaniel Stookey, will be performed by the 46 musicians of Orchestra Miami, conducted by Elaine Rinaldi. To set the scene of mystery and murder, the orchestra will also perform Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain” & Berlioz’s chilling “March to the Scaffold” from Symphonie Fantastique.
The fun takes place on Sunday, October 15th, 3:00 PM at Pinecrest Gardens, 11000 SW 57 Avenue, Pinecrest, 33156. Saturday, September 23rd join Kim Cameron and her puppet friend Emma at Books and Books for a reading from her ocean themed children’s book series Seaper Powers: In Search of Bleu Jay’s Treasure! Appropriate for ages 5-9, the Seaper Powers series communicates positive messages about self-confidence, friendship, and the environment. The children will journey with Kim and Emma through the ocean, tumbling across waves to discover treasure with the help of new sea critter friends made along the way. Guests will enjoy a puppet reading, short movie based on the book, and a meet and greet with Q&A afterwards.

In search of Bleu Jay’s Treasure: A magical tale about a little girl (Emma) who discovers special seagrass off the island of St. Thomas. It transforms her body so that she can talk to fish! Not only does she make new friends, she sets off on a new adventure to find buried treasure!

Kim Cameron is a true believer in inspiring and nurturing kids. She is a vocal instructor/mentor with Guitars Over Guns, performing with puppets. While on tour in the Caribbean, she met a 12-year-old who had a fascination with octopi. This brief encounter inspired the creation of Mr. Octopus, a children’s tune featuring an 8-year-old whom Kim recently signed to her record label. After completing the song, her co-writer and guitarist, John DePatie, encouraged her to take it to next level by writing a children’s book using the song as the impetus. They called the book Seaper Powers, in Search for Bleu Jay’s Treasure.

Wynwood will see the streets come alive for the fourth annual Wynwood Life! It is held in Miami’s Art and Cultural District and is a true celebration of all things we love about South Florida – Food, Art, Music and Fashion! Twenty thousand people will fill the streets perusing art, crafts, jewelry and over 100 vendors all while being entertained by live art and music and noshing on local fare from over 40 food trucks!

WynwoodMap.com and The RAW Project will curate the Live Art Stage featuring a wide variety of street artists from around the World. The festival encourages students and emerging artists to take part in the “Emerging Artist Competition”. Wynwood Life is proud to have the Miami Art & Design Education Institute (M.A.D.E.) as the presenting sponsor, because M.A.D.E is known for elevating people’s art and design career to the next level by way of their industry-driven approach to education, through coaching, mentoring, and networking in the heart of Miami’s Art District. In addition, WYN 317 Gallery will be the gallery partner as well as being on the selection committee.

Over 20 bands and DJs will occupy the Live Music Stage featuring local favorites and hometown bands gone big such as Otto Von Schirach, Tamboka, Jeano Music, Hoy Palloy, Zander and many more.

The Style Lounge will offer free services including nail polish changes, a braid station and Henna. The Spot Barbershop will have a pop up for the men, and stylists will showcase multiple fashion shows by local boutiques, fashion bloggers including iShine365, Dyme Lyfe, graciouslylovedllc, Koko and Palenki, to name a few.

The Wynwood Culinary Showcase will feature top restaurants and chefs from the area providing teachable moments such as Chef Cesar Zapata from Phuc yea, who will teach us how to cook a whole fish. This year, the stage will also invite South Florida chefs outside of Wynwood who are taking the culinary scene to a higher level. Scheduled to make demos are Max Santiago, Bunnie Cakes, Crave Clean, Copper 29, and more. The Bitter Truth will have a pop up where they’ll carve the ice for each cocktail with a chainsaw, and they will also compete against Employees Only to come up with the “Best Cocktail” at Wynwood Life.
