See you there.
September is the month when the party season begins. And boy did it shows. Since the beginning of September I have not stopped in covering events but for this story, I wanted to concentrate one special night where I went to three great events in the Magic City. I networked, socialize and had a great time in all of them.
First of all, my night started with a Meet Your Neighbors event at Grand Central. The purpose of this monthly event is for the people living in the Downtown Miami and surrounding areas to get to know one another by networking with each other. Grand Central hosted its space for this event which served it’s purpose as a great venue for the amount of people. Vendors also showcased their businesses as well as KFC with South Florida Baking provided the appetizers with an open bar sponsored by Sagatiba Cachaca. I met new people as well as greeted old acquaintances.
Since I was alredy in Downtown, I went to Trini in Private Salon located on Brickell Avenue. The event was spectacular! Other than great appetizers being served by Inca Restaurant next door, great cocktail drinks were offered. In addition, a fashion show featuring the latest fall trends and some cool hair styles were showcased. The difference in this one was that the models walked the run way to the hair style seat that was already located outside and after the hair do was set, the models walked the red carpet. This signifies that one can do the hairstyle at Trini and off you go to party! Fabulous!
Now with two parties under my belt, I headed over to South Beach which I had not been there for months. Ocean Drive Magazine was celebrating their Fall Fashion Week in which they hosted some fashion shows in various locations on the Beach. On this night, it was Perry Ellis’ turn. The location: The Raleigh Hotel on Collins Avenue. When one came into the hotel, the male models were displayed as if they were mannequins. Many guests even tookpictures with them. Cocktails were sponsored by Chambord Vodka amidst the backdrop of the many photo celebrities that hung on the walls of the hotel.
I had a great time in all three events not to mention the goody bags that were given in all three. Miami is a mecca of many party destinations if you know who you need to know one can out out in the town to sample the many attributes that this lovely city has to offer.

GREG PITTS www.fineartamerica.com/profiles/greg-pitts.html
Born to a single parent family, Greg Pitts started out life at a disadvantage. Growing up without a father figure made life less than ideal. He did not meet his father until the age of 12. As a young teen, he exhibited artistic capabilities, however the lack of understanding and from his family lead to discouragement. He continued to strive to express himself artistically. He purchased his first camera on lay-a-way from a camera store in his hometown of Lima, Ohio.
His artistic eye and fashion sense while a senior in high school lead to him was offered admission to a prestigious fashion design school, but because of stereotypical attitudes, students at school would call him a nerd and at home no one would assist him in the application process, stating that that kind of stuff is for sissies. Discouraged, he graduated without any formal plans. Later, he joined the Army in order to provide for his soon to be born son.
Despite a difficult start in life, he continued to express his artistic side.
Greg Pitts abstract artwork has been compared to that of abstract impressionist artist Jackson Pollock. He was the featured artist of the month for February 2009 with Elements of Art and has been exhibited at Etra Fine Art Gallery and Ornare both in Miami, FL.

KRIS STARRY www.starrynightphotography.net
Starry Night Photography was created in late 2009. Her forte is capturing impromptu moments of time, moments of love, and moments of joy. She prefers to maintain her distance to capture natural shots, but will be happy to gently guide you when another angle or better light would be more dramatic or flattering. Her second goal is for you to have fun, because she feels pictures don’t turn out well if you’re not having a good time. Her love of natural lighting leads her to use outdoor and other on-location settings, and she chooses her shooting locations to best match your personality. Let Kris Starry of Starry Night Photography capture and preserve your emotions and memories on your special occasion for not only your lifetime, but for those of generations to come.
EMILY PETERS www.PiazJewelry.com
I’ve been designing Jewelry for over 11 years and opened Piaz Jewelry – a subsidiary of E Apparel – in 2009. Every exceptional and playful piece is handmade by me for remarkable women. When I design jewelry for Piaz, I gravitate toward a modern, frenetic, and striking aesthetic. The Earrings, Necklaces, and Bracelets are constructed from Fine Silver, Sterling Silver and 14K Gold Filled Wire and Chain, glass and metal beads, and Semi-Precious Stones.
Piaz aims to be a source of inspiration – known for its quality, trend-forward products, as well as its social responsibility. The company champions sustainable business practices. We produce according to customer demand, and we reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible. Some of the elements of the Piaz jewelry collections are reclaimed from other jewelry pieces. Each piece is delivered in a handmade bag stitched (by me) from vintage materials and shipped in recycled boxes.

As the Forge approached the 40th anniversary in 2009, Shareef decided to take his culinary grande dame into a new era and has now created a living space where people can enjoy a five-course meal with wine pairings or order a burger and a glass of wine by the fire. THE STATE OF www.thestateofmusic.com
The State Of is the product of the marriage between Steph Taylor’s edgy piano/synth playing and Nabedi Osorio’s electronic-like live drumming. Their dark pop sensibility is born out of their hometown of Miami, FL and is reminiscent of artists ranging from the Bjork and the Eurythmics to Radiohead and the Cure. Taylor’s style of playing is often percussive and dark where Osorio’s drumming is melodic and when coupled, they create a dynamic sound larger than what’s expected out of two people.
“The State Of exemplifies that oxymoronic moment when something sparse becomes atmospheric – like the most electronic form of analog, or vice versa” -Broward New Times
“South Florida duo the State Of likes to keep pop tunes dark but upbeat. The ladies crank eerily pretty arrangements on the keys and back them with big, electroniclike live drums for a Tori Amos meets LCD Soundsystem effect.” -Tampa Bay Times
“The massive appeal of the State Of comes simply from variety” -Miami New Times
GUSTAVO RAMIREZ www.facebook.com/pages/Gustavo-Ramirez/114359381795
I’m a 35 year old, mostly self taught visual artist (painter). I grew up in Orlando, Fl. and moved to Miami in 2001. My work mostly expresses and explores my unconscious mind in mostly automatic abstract techniques. I also like to make imagined and real portraits of people.
YAMEL MOLERIO www.yamelmolerio.com
I was born in Havana, Cuba in 1971. I came to the U.S. in 1980 at the age of 9 during the Mariel boatlift. Since I could remember I’ve always been into art. As a kid, I remember being into drawing cartoons and even drawing anatomical posters for my mom who was a biology teacher. In high school, I started doing graffiti with my friends and it became a way of life during the late eighties. After I got into college I learned about contemporary artists, working with other media and art history. I also learned about adding concept and meaning to a work of art.
In my artwork, I deal with issues important to me by being comical at times instead of in your face political. I reject art styles or working in a specific style. I use imagery that ranges from cartoons to realistic portraiture. I want the message of the piece to be the most important thing. I want the viewer at first to be drawn to the piece and then to question why he/she was attracted to it. Maybe with a dialogue between the viewer and the artwork, the viewer will realize that popular culture has programmed us to think a certain way.

Social Media Day in Miami at The Pelican Hotel on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. MIAMI edition presented by Mashable.com & The brpr Group for the Miami sect. This was a celebration for those Miami social media mavens!
Social Media Day – MIAMI edition presented by Mashable.com & The brpr Group
Last night was an epic celebration of everything Social Media, and our Miami festivities were the biggest in the southeast (and bigger than LA). Miamians have once again proven their digital prowess as over 100 Social Media aficionados “checked-in†to The Pelican Hotel and Restaurant on Ocean Drive, giving a whole new, flesh and bones meaning to the term Social Networking Site.
Social Media Day, or #SMDAY as we call it in the biz, is the creation of Mashable and Meetup was the HQ, calling upon each city’s Social Media Mavens and Maestros to organize their own observance as Pete Cashmore, CEO of Mashable explains, “I see social media day as the beginning. We would like you to use this platform to continue to organize regular Meetups in your area.â€
The brpr Group was thrilled to answer the calling of the all-mighty Mashable as Agency Director, Christopher Renz, raves, “Being a part of the first ever Social Media Day is like being present for the first ever Valentine’s Day or St. Patrick’s Day. Ok, maybe not exactly the same, but it is huge — especially being on the ground and knowing how fast Social Media is growing. It was an honor for us at The brpr Group to be able to work with Mashable and we are very happy to help position Miami at the forefront of the revolution.â€
SocialBuzzTV and USTREAM were large contributors, documenting this first ever Social Media Day extravaganza for the ages. Live streaming for nationwide bragging rights and an incredible postcelebration recap, already a YouTube sensation among those in the know, made Miami’s #SMDAY so much more than a “trending topic†on Twitter. Miami’s village voices were in full effect with The
Miami New Times, Soul of Miami, BizBash, and Miami Magazine, to name a few, as they bore witness to digital history in the making.
“If you’re in the business of Social Media, it’s really ‘Social Media Day’ everyday,†says Jennifer Batchelor, Social Media Curator for The brpr Group, “What makes today and this #SMDay celebration so special is the free bubbly with “check-inâ€. I mean, who doesn’t want to drink up while you Tweetup? But all Social Media nerd jokes aside, we are so grateful to the city of Miami and to Mashable for allowing us the opportunity to organize this gathering and celebrate the new school 2.0 tomfoolery with the finest digital media dynamos, community managers, and SMO pros in the industry.â€

Tuesday, June 29, 2010 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Blue Martini
900 South Miami Avenue
Miami, FL 33130
Can you attend this event? Respond Here
Did you know that in today’s job market many local employment openings never make it to the web and go unadvertised? In fact, today’s jobs are being discovered through social networking both in person and online.
The Pink Slip Tour, sponsored by Virgin Mobile, is a jobs tour presented by JobsDirectUSA to connect career professionals with hiring companies across multiple U.S. cities. Each event is free to attend; there will also be mobile phone giveaways courtesy of Virgin Mobile.
If you’ve never attended a Pink Slip Party before, the way it works is simple; Job Seekers and Recruiters network one-on-one from 2 to 5 minutes at a time – think of the concept “speed dating for jobs”.
This is the most fun, casual and laid-back job interview experience you will ever attend – we guarantee it!
In addition, Entertainment Correspondent Kelly Blanco will be on site interviewing Job Seekers throughout the evening as they walk down the ‘Pink Carpet’ to mingle with local hiring managers and recruiters.
Job Seekers should bring copies of their resume, dress to succeed and practice their 30 second commercials before attending. Remember, you might be speaking to your potential next employer before the night is over!
To learn more on how Virgin Mobile can help you stay connected and save please visit www.virginmobileusa.com
For more information please contact JobsDirectUSA at (904) 239-5466 or by email at events@pinkslippartying.com

Your performance review won’t be with human resources, but online, as your friends and competitors vote on videos of your experience and those of all the other participants. The “best boss”, as decided by popular vote, will be the proud owner of a new Apple iPad.
Step into our office, take a seat in the executive chair, and prove you have what it takes to Be the Boss.
