RAW is an indie arts organization for artists, by artists. It focuses on spotlighting indie underground talent to the public. Every other month, our 60+ locations worldwide hand-select 40 emerging artists in film, fashion, music, visual art, photography, accessories, performing art, hair, and makeup. They are able to sell their work, showcase their work, and network with the local community.

On July 2nd, we’ll be hosting our summer showcase! We’ll have 3 musicians including a performance by Peezy and Lala, fashion and accessory vendors including handbag designer Claire Jean-Gilles of Classy Lady Creations, an art gallery of 30+ visual artists and photographers including gMozel and Jasmin Alex, as well as a live makeup installation by Alicia Coke, and 6 fashion shows including RAW Hollywood designer Weird Folks apparel, and a swimwear fashion show by GSaints Swimwear.

The event is 21+, cocktail attire, street parking or there is a parking ramp at Midtown off of N.Miami Ave and 36th St., Valet parking is $15, Doors open at 7pm, 7-8pm cocktail hour with half priced drinks and small bites menu all night!

Tickets are on sale for $15 through a showcasing artist at RAWartists.org/Miami/Glimpse. Tickets go up to $20 at the door the day of (cash).

As part of the 2013 Zoolens Photography Project—which encourages students to creatively photograph their favorite Zoo Miami animal and submit their photo for a chance to win $2,000—Mercantil Commercebank is offering an exclusive Zoo experience for middle school students. During the event, Ron Magill will be on hand to offer attendees photography tips. He will also engage certain animals to help students get an up-close view, as well as their best shot.

The photography contest is open to middle school students of Miami-Dade County’s public and private schools. Interested participants must submit an original photograph of a Zoo Miami animal, before Nov. 1, through their schools or by bringing their entry to any Mercantil Commercebank banking center. A panel of esteemed judges will choose the talented winners, whose schools will receive a donation from Mercantil Commercebank.

11th Annual Florida International University Scholarship Fishing Tourament

The Florida International University Scholarship Fishing Tournament is a one day, offshore tournament featuring fishing for Dolphin. The University’s Alumni Association organizes this event and the NET proceeds go towards a scholarship program for students of the University.

Join FIU alumni and the community on Saturday, June 1st for the 11th Annual FIU Scholarship Fishing Tournament! This event is a one day, offshore tournament featuring fishing for dolphin, with fun fish, lady angler, and Jr. angler categories.

The tournament serves to raise funds for student scholarships. FIU alumni, students and members of the community are all welcome to participate.

If you’re interested in registering a team you can do so at FIUalumni.com/fishing. The cost is $350 per boat (includes 4 anglers). Additional anglers are $50 each.

If fishing isn’t your thing, you can still participate in the family fun dock party! It will be hosted at the Sea Isle Marina, starting at 2:00 pm. The dock party will consist of music, live entertainment, food, beverages and activities for all to enjoy.

There will be a Human Chess Match hosted by Door to the Arts, Inc. & St. John Neumann Catholic School at 2:00 pm in the Courtyard. Watch as a chess match comes alive! Students dressed in full costume will make their grand entrance and take their positions  on the life-size chess board. Players will call out moves from an adjoining table causing the corresponding live chess pieces to move, and the amazine battle of skill & strategy begins!

Research shows that people are kissing less than ever and that 66% of women have avoided kissing a guy because he had facial hair. With Valentine’s Day on the horizon and signs showing that the kiss may be on the decline, Gillette is asking couples across America to help determine if stubble could be the trouble.

Miami couples are invited to kiss in-person – with and without stubble – to uncover which kiss is best: a kiss with stubble or smooth shaven skin.

Couples should arrive with stubble – first conducting an introductory interview, then kissing with stubble. Men will then shave and the couple will kiss again. A short follow-up survey will be conducted to determine which is truly more kissable. Prizes will be awarded to all who pucker up: free Gillette swag for the guys and a COVERGIRL LipPerfection Jumbo Gloss Balm for the ladies!

Anyone unable to attend in-person can conduct the experiment online at kissandtellus.com. National results will be announced on Valentine’s Day.

RunWild 5K at Zoo Miami to benefit the homeless

Bring your family and friends for a 5-kilometer run or walk through beautiful Zoo Miami. Competitive awards will be given to the top three males and females in each age category. Activities for the runners and walkers include a stretch session by Pilates in the Grove. A bounce house, clowns and music will provide entertainment for children. The Arthur & Polly Mays Conservatory of the Arts marching band and auxiliary team, fresh off their Junior Orange Bowl Parade act, will kick off the event. A health fair with blood pressure testing and more also is planned.

Proceeds from fundraising activities for the race will benefit Chapman Partnership, formerly Community Partnership for Homeless. The organization helps the homeless put their lives back together with a comprehensive support program that includes emergency shelter, meals, health and dental care, day care, job training, job placement, and assistance with securing housing.
