Young detectives and their families will work through the rooms of the mansion meeting different characters from the iconic TV show that has captivated fans for more than five decades. Unmask the jewel thief and discover secrets of the mansion. SCOOBY-DOO! ™ Mansion Mayhem was produced by The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis in partnership with Warner Bros. NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale presents Sensory Saturday, a new sensory-friendly program FREE for children on the Autism Spectrum ages 6-17 and their families.

Experience NSU Art Museum on September 14 from 9:30 – 10:30 am, before regular museum hours for a sensory-friendly environment and exclusive free museum access. Join us in making art in workspaces and wandering through galleries that have been adjusted for low lighting and reduced sound. Sensory-friendly materials will be available for all visiting children on the spectrum, including noise-canceling headphones, weighted lap pads, soft seating, sensory-friendly art materials and a special gift for each child.

Sensory Saturdays are held on the second Saturday of September, November, January and March. Registration opens one month prior to each date.

Admission to Sensory Saturday is FREE with a required RSVP. Space is limited.

This fall, MOAD Projects will feature an artist residency with Ema Ri at Miami Dade College’s Padrón Campus. Ema Ri will use the campus’s newly renovated gallery to make new work and engage with students and the public during open studio hours, where visitors will be able to interact with and observe the artist at work.

Ema Ri is a noted mixed media artist in Miami, whose work is informed by languages of abstraction and explorations of materiality. Influenced by personal experiences, Ema Ri examines themes of displacement and deconstruction.

MOAD’s programs are made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor, and Board of County Commissioners. On August 27, community members are invited to experience Downtown Doral’s ceremonial orchid planting as part of its partnership with Fairchild’s Million Orchid Project (MOP), the nation’s largest educational outreach program dedicated to orchid conservation.

The event will kick off with a ceremonial planting of the final of nearly 1,000 orchids planted at Downtown Doral during the collaboration.

The event will also feature remarks from the Mayor of Doral, Christi Fraga, as well as executives from Fairchild and UHealth. It follows April’s educational planting in which 100 Downtown Doral Charter Elementary (DDCES) students planted 800+ orchids along 8 royal palm trees on Paseo Boulevard in Downtown Doral’s retail center.

UHealth, which is currently building a 160,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility at Downtown Doral, is supporting the plantings, symbolizing UHealth’s commitment to preserving life in the community. Downtown Doral is helping the orchids prosper and will handle their care and maintenance.

Celebrating with sugar skulls and marigolds! The community is welcome to CityPlace Doral’s Third Annual Day of The Dead – Dia de Los Muertos – celebration. The month-long activation, taking place Oct. 1 through Nov. 3, will recognize this culturally rich Latin American tradition culminating with a free community event on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Starting Tuesday, Oct. 1, CityPlace Doral will be vibrantly decorated with gorgeous colorful Dia de Los Muertos-themed decorations through Nov. 2. At the main entrance, guests will be welcomed by a wooden calavera (sugar skull) and colorful Marigolds overhead. Sugar skulls will be displayed throughout City Place Doral and the Fountain Plaza will be ornamented with an altar display of a trio catrines (male skeleton figures) with flowers, Marigolds and more. All items are hand-crafted by Artistic Elves.

The main Day of the Dead event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m., where children and families can enjoy face painting, food sampling from local restaurants and a center-wide processional with performances by folkloric dancers, stilt walkers, mariachis and costumed characters. The Baila Conmigo Kids Dance School will host a special youth performance. Guests can also shop and stroll the “El Mercado” night market, a marketplace for people and their pets.

Furry friends are encouraged to meet up at CityPlace Doral’s City Bark dog park. Decorated with fun photo moments, a doghouse, dog bone and a fire hydrant, City Bark is a paws-itively good time. There are also four pet waste stations located conveniently throughout the property.

Guests and pets are encouraged to dress in Day of the Dead theme.

MODS is open an hour early for sensory-friendly Museum exploration and activities followed by an IMAX film at 12:30 p.m.

To provide a more sensory-sensitive environment for individuals on the autism spectrum, the theater lights will be turned up and the sound will be lowered. All films will be presented in 2D. No trailers will be shown before the movie. Audience members are welcome to get up, sing, walk, dance and shout without worrying about complaints. Families may bring snacks from home, as well as blankets and other small items to be comfortable.

Guests can also participate in a variety of sensory based activities throughout the Museum. Children will engage in social interactions and improve the processing, modulation and regulation of sensory input to increase participation in a natural environment.

Following the global announcement of the discovery of a rare juvenile T. rex specimen by three young boys, the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) is pleased to announce the premiere of T. REX, the giant screen documentary that captured this incredible expedition on camera. This captivating science adventure and a love letter to T. rex, the Greatest of All Tyrants – the GOAT – is now playing at the AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater.

Anchored by the true story of the young fossil hunters who made the discovery of a lifetime when they spotted a large, fossilized leg bone on a walk on public lands in North Dakota, T. REX intercuts the remarkable fossil dig, with cutting edge computer graphics that bring the iconic T. rex – from hatchling to hulking adult – to life. Narrated by Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill, T. REX explores the newest science that has helped reinvent our understanding of the iconic predator.

With hat tips to famous specimens, landmark discoveries, and wild cinematic T. rex depictions over the last century, the film also brings to life a cast of prehistoric characters including rex’s archrival, Triceratops; Quetzalcoatlus, one the largest animals ever to take flight; and the 25-foot long Sinraptor, a species that likely fed on early tyrannosaurs.

T. REX is an immersive cinema experience produced by Giant Screen Films and D3D Cinema, in partnership with the Field Museum, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Houston Museum of Natural Science and Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, in association with the Cincinnati Museum Center, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Museums Victoria, and New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. Renowned for producing Asian-inspired culinary gatherings in Miami over the last 12 years, Eleanor Hoh has ideated her passion for cultivating the essence of Asian dining experiences by bringing people together for celebratory tastings at Miami’s most noteworthy Asian dining destinations. Celebrate back to school and Hip Hop Recognition Month with exciting activities centered around elements of hip hop. Try your hand at Graffiti, explore physical movement through “breaking,” and learn more about the music and histories that shaped hip hop culture, all while making art on PAMM’s waterfront terrace.

Explore our latest exhibition, Xican-a.o.x. Body, and discover how the artwork themes and hip hop are connected through movements of cultural self-determination. As architects of the hip hop cultural production, Black, Latine, and Caribbean American youth influenced many aspects of contemporary life, including music, fashion, art, film, politics, and more.

Boca Raton, FL – 2024 marks a pivotal year in American society and at the Boca Museum of Art as they celebrate their 75th anniversary. To ignite American spirit, the Museum proudly welcomes artist Mateo Blanco. Known for his unique renditions of the American flag using uncommon textiles and materials, Blanco will present another artistic twist on “Old Glory” at the Boca Raton Museum of Art in celebration of Labor Day. On Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm, Blanco will host an in-gallery workshop, Creation Station, where visitors are invited to create their own personalized American flag art.
Blanco’s new artwork Credit Flag, will be on view during Creation Station, which is crafted with 42 credit cards he has used over a span of 25 years. Visitors can meet and learn about his creative process before making their own flag-inspired artwork to take home. Creation Station is a drop-in art program for all ages to explore the visual arts, and is offered free with museum admission.
“Credit Flag has political, economic, social, and cultural meaning, but like everything in life, it depends on how you see things,” said Blanco. “On August 31, join me to create your own flag with your own point of view of our great nation.”
The Boca Raton Museum of Art has two other works by Mateo Blanco in its collection. July 4, 2020 is a flag created with pieces of fabric from Blanco’s clothing that he wore at his college graduation. Native Flag is a textile flag that represents the artist’s Colombian roots with native fabrics and dyes.
“Mateo’s artistic talents are in creating works that resonate with personal meaning,” said Irvin Lippman, Executive Director of the Boca Raton Museum of Art. “At first glance, Native Flag is an American flag with its stars and stripes. Upon closer inspection, it is a collage of handwoven fabrics in subtle pale colors made out of native plants from Colombia – a melding of cultures.”
The Boca Raton Museum of Art also has a personal meaning for Blanco. “I was a young man who visited the museum while I was studying at Florida Atlantic University,” he said. “I dreamed of exhibiting my art there. You can also make your dreams come true.”

About Mateo Blanco
Blanco was born in Miami in 1981 and began his formal training in fine art in Medellin, Colombia, where he studied under Débora Arango Pérez, the artist immortalized on the country’s 2,000-peso bill. Blanco’s studies include goldsmithing and jewelry. He holds a B.A. from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. Blanco is also a talented opera performer, who sang for President George H.W. FLITE Center’s “Sip, Savor and Screening” benefit presented by Seminole Casino Coconut Creek will take place on Tuesday, August 20, from 6 – 9 p.m., at Movies of Delray (7421 W Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach). This special evening, part of Boca Chamber Festival Days (BCFD), will include a complimentary libation, gourmet light bites, a raffle and a ticket to view the 2024 drama, Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, an uplifting true story about how a small community banded together to transform the lives of its most vulnerable youth. All proceeds will go toward FLITE Center programs and services, which provide young adults with resources and support to help them transition to independent living. FLITE Center is a one-stop resource center offering all supportive services to youth aging out of foster care, chronically homeless youth, human trafficking survivors, and LGBTQ+ youth.

Featured on Oprah, the powerful Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot follows a rural Texas church community’s life-changing decision for 22 families to adopt 77 vulnerable children from the foster care system, helping among other things to shield them from the horrors of human trafficking. Led by Reverend Martin and his wife Donna, this act of boundless compassion ignited a movement, proving with passion and commitment, that the battle for America’s most vulnerable can be won.

With comprehensive, seamless support, FLITE Center guides nearly 2,000 youth annually through life’s maze. FLITE connects them to employment, education, health services, counseling, and safe, affordable housing. Established in Broward County, FLITE Center has been serving the West Palm Beach community since 2021. In 2022, it expanded its services by adding a 1,500-square-foot drop-in center located in the historic northwest sector of downtown – in an area youth can easily reach. More recently, new property space began providing a safe, secure and reliable immediate housing emergency landing space lovingly called Falcon Ridge for human trafficking survivor youth and their families.

FLITE Center’s West Palm Beach’s Anti-Human Trafficking programming is supported through a Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant through the Office of the Attorney General of Florida and through a U.S. Department of Justice Office of Victims of Crime Housing Assistance Grant, helping at-risk and sex-trafficked children and young adults between the ages of 10 – 24 with trauma informed care, guidance and support.

Celebrating 47 years, Boca Chamber Festival Days is the chamber’s outreach to the non-profit community. Non-profit chamber members join forces with for-profit chamber members to hold events during the month of August with a primary objective of enhancing awareness and gathering funds for philanthropic endeavors. The Boca Chamber is proud to offer a diverse range of activities that showcase the vibrant essence of Boca Raton, spanning from intimate gatherings to larger-scale celebrations.

Feeding South Florida – the leading hunger-relief organization in South Florida – will host its inaugural black-tie gala, with the theme of Emerald Peacock, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024. The event, presented by Ryder System Inc., will kick off with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. followed by a three-course dinner in the Grand Ballroom. South Florida’s top community leaders, philanthropists and influencers will be among the 500 guests who will enjoy dinner, dancing, live entertainment, an engaging program and more to raise crucial funds to fight food insecurity in South Florida.

Currently, in South Florida, there are more than 1.2 million food insecure individuals. One in nine individuals in South Florida remain uncertain about where they will get their next meal due to inflation, the strained supply chain, rising fuel prices and increased housing costs among other factors. Proceeds raised during the event will allow Feeding South Florida to fulfill its mission to end hunger in South Florida by providing immediate access to nutritious food, leading hunger and poverty advocacy efforts and transforming lives through innovative programming and education.

The gala will be co-chaired by Steve Stowe, vice president and executive director of the Miami HEAT Charitable Fund and Stephanie Wicky, vice president of marketing at Ryder Systems, Inc.

Celebrated entertainment reporter Lisa Petrillo of CBS News Miami will emcee the event. Supporters will also have the opportunity to sponsor a Feeding South Florida family through donations and participate in a silent auction featuring high-end items and exceptional luxury experiences.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts celebrates 10 years of classes at the Rose Miniaci Arts Education Center at the Broward Center with a free open house. Guests can tour the education center facilities, observe or participate in sample classes, grab the mic in Broadway Karaoke, play Broadway trivia, meet the teaching artists, win prizes, register to win a free fall class, enjoy family-friendly activities, light refreshments and more. Classes for the public are now on sale.

The Broward Center’s singing, dance, improv and acting classes are for kids, teens and adults and also include classes for those with physical and intellectual disabilities. Classes are designed to encourage artistic expression and teach theater skills in a supportive and inclusive environment. In addition, class participants can audition to be in a show or represent the Broward Center at community performances.

Creativity Exploration adult workshops promote the benefits of material exploration and the mind-to-body experience. Studies have shown that 45 minutes of creative activity a day reduces stress and offers mental clarity and relaxation. In addition to producing a sense of well-being, sessions expand participants’ perceptions of forms, while increasing brain connectivity through visual and cognitive stimulation. School is out, but the Museum of Discovery and Science’s (MODS) Camp STEAMology: Enchanted Forest: Myths & Legends is in!

Come join MODS for a week of magical refuge while you build an enchanted tree house. Get transported to the land of fairies, gnomes, trolls, dragons, unicorns, and other magical creatures! Create miniature worlds, fairy tales, art, costumes, and stories.

Give your child a SCIENTASTIC STEM experience at MODS’ camp program presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. At Camp STEAMology, we’ve crafted the ultimate age-appropriate camp adventure, providing campers with interactive exploration and hands-on learning opportunities in the coolest camp environment you can imagine. Plus, don’t forget the cherry on top – a weekly IMAX® immersion that’ll have your child’s curiosity soaring to new heights. It’s not just camp; it’s a journey into the exciting world of STEAM that they’ll never forget!

South Florida’s award-winning attraction features 150,000 square feet of dynamic science exhibits, an outdoor science park, a live animal collection, a rotating schedule of science shows, learning labs, café, store and a grand atrium featuring the Great Gravity Clock, a 52-foot-tall kinetic energy sculpture; the largest clock in Florida. The showpiece of the museum since 1993, this unique timepiece is one of only three in the world.

On Sunday, July 28, RedFarm is hosting a special Wok Star Supper Club dinner in collaboration with Miami’s food personality and event curator, Eleanor Hoh. The gathering will feature a four-course dinner priced at $75 per person, executed by RedFarm’s dim-sum master, Chef Joe Ng.

Hoh and RedFarm’s co-founder & Executive Chef Joe Ng have curated a Special Menu for this gathering. Expect modern and inventive Chinese cuisine with whimsical touches and a seasonally driven menu, including dishes unique to Miami. The Special Menu will offer signature dishes with substantial vegetarian options.

The evening will commence at 6pm with a meet and greet while enjoying Asian-inspired cocktails, followed by a sit-down four-course dinner in a dining area allocated exclusively for the event. Guests will have the rare opportunity to meet Chef Ng, hear his journey from Hong Kong street food to running a 700-seat dim sum restaurant in California. Service director, Jeff Goldin will also briefly share the history of Chinese food and RedFarm.

All reservations require a pre-payment of $75 per guest (price INCLUDES tax and gratuity; drinks are not included). Early bookings are encouraged due to limited event capacity. $20 valet or street parking available.

This summer, Escape Rooftop Bar, the gorgeous al fresco space atop the Kimpton Shorebreak Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, has become a local favorite for its amazing sunset views, creative cocktails and tempting tapas. On Thursday, August 15, it will be the site for the launch of a special Sunset Chef’s Table dinner series from hotel Executive Chef Michael Mayer. Grab your best partners-in-crime and hatch a plot to catch Die, Mommie, Die! by Charles Busch, Island City Stage’s riotous 12th Season closer running August 22 – September 22. Off-Broadway star Kris Andersson (aka Dixie Longate) leads a multitalented cast of performers in this killer comic melodrama that evokes the 1960s “Grande Dame Guignol” films that featured aging stars such as Bette Davis, Joan Crawford and Lana Turner.

Ex-pop singer Angela Arden is trapped in a hateful marriage with Sol. But desperate to find happiness with her young lover Tony, Angela murders her husband with a poisoned suppository. Suspicious of their mother, her children slip her some LSD, provoking a wild acid trip in which many secrets are revealed.

Die, Mommie, Die! was first produced in 1999 by Kenneth Elliott and Don Fairbanks at the Coast Playhouse in Los Angeles. In October 2007, the play opened Off-Broadway at New World Stages in New York City. Directed by Carl Andress, the production starred author Charles Busch and featured Bob Ari, Van Hansis, Chris Hoch, Ashley Morris and Kristine Nielson. It was also made into a 2003 film starring Busch.

Charles Busch has forged a unique place in the world of entertainment as playwright, actor, director, novelist, cabaret performer and drag icon. The award-winner is the author and star of over 25 plays including The Divine Sister, The Lady in Question, Red Scare on Sunset, The Tribute Artist, The Confession of Lily Dare and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom; one of the longest running plays in the history of Off-Broadway. His play The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife ran for 777 performances on Broadway, won the Outer Circle Critics’ John L. Gassner Award for playwrighting, received a Tony nomination for Best Play and is the longest running Broadway comedy of the past 25 years. He wrote and starred in the film versions of his plays, Psycho Beach Party and Die Mommie Die, the latter of which won him the Best Performance Award at the Sundance Film Festival. For two seasons, he appeared as Nat Ginzburg on the HBO series OZ and is the author of the auto-biographical novel Whores of Lost Atlantis. He has directed two films and has appeared as a guest programmer and in numerous documentaries for Turner Classic Movies. He has lectured and conducted master classes at many colleges and universities including NYU, Harvard, UCLA and Amherst College. In 2003, Mr. Busch received a special Drama Desk Award for career achievement as both performer and playwright and was given a star on the Playwrights Walk outside the Lucille Lortel Theatre. He is also the subject of the acclaimed documentary film The Lady in Question is Charles Busch. He is a two-time MAC award winner and has performed his cabaret across the globe.

Die, Mommie Die! is directed by Andy Rogow and co-stars Clay Cartland, Troy J. Stanley, Elizabeth Dimon, Kevin Veloz and Suzanna Ninomiya alongside Andersson.

Die, Mommie, Die! is co-produced by the Warten Foundation. Costume Sponsors are DC Allen and Ken Flick and Lights and Sound Sponsor is Vic Smith. The YMCA of South Florida, Children’s Services Council of Broward County, School Board of Broward County, HandsOn South Florida, Soles4Souls, City of Ft. Lauderdale Police Department, and volunteers from other companies and nonprofit organizations are committed to supporting K-12 education in South Florida and will provide free backpacks, school supplies, underwear and shoes to students in K through 12 students in Broward County.

Each child must be present and will receive one backpack filled with school supplies and other goodies. Families also can take advantage of free immunizations and apply for Florida Kidcare and free and reduced school meals.

In recognition of their dedication to Jack & Jill Center, the luncheon will honor Greg Young, known as Greg the Barber, as the volunteer honoree, Holman Enterprises as the philanthropic organization honoree and Stephen Distributing as the corporate honoree. These awards are bestowed to those who have gone above and beyond through their contributions and service to the Jack & Jill Center.

The proceeds from the event will benefit Jack & Jill Center’s mission to strengthen children and families through innovative education, supportive programming and community engagement. ArtServe is located at 1350 E. Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale and is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“After seeing Ready-Made, your everyday experiences will come with a fresh perspective on the knowledge that an artist has created virtually everything with which we interact each day,” ArtServe CEO Jason Hughes explained. “For example, even a trip to the grocery store entails visual artwork on so many levels—the colorful displays, the food packaging, the coupons and even the fresh sushi at the seafood counter have one thing in common—they were all created by artists!”

ArtServe opened participation in Ready-Made to local artists of all genres—with one caveat: Exhibited artwork must not be perishable (which means the fresh pastries and sushi displays must remain in their respective stores!).

Ready-Made opens alongside a national launch of “Handwork: Celebrating American Craft 2026,” a massive Semiquincentennial initiative to showcase the importance of the handmade, both throughout American history and contemporary life.

ArtServe inspires, supports and advances its diverse members, artists and community by promoting artistic development, education and prosperity through the exploration and presentation of the visual and performing arts.
