Entrepreneur Giulia Carniato first opened P.Pole in Coral Gables in 2018. The 25-year-old has put a vibrant, Gen-Z spin on the classic pizzeria: at her street-art-filled P.Pole locations in Miami, including a flagship in South Beach, where she ditches the traditional pizza oven for a fun take on the world’s favorite dish. Here, each skateboard-shaped pizza is completely bespoke. In 2022, Darius V. Daughtry, one of South Florida’s best-known poets, authors, directors and educators, presented a stage reading of Seeking, where he explored a journey of self-discovery in the midst of an everchanging world. Now he brings his well-received work to the stage in this new full production with performances on Friday, July 26 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 27 at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets start at $30 with student prices at $20.

Written and directed by Daughtry, Seeking is an unforgettable experience that brings music and magic to the stage as the audience follows the story of a young musician’s quest for independence. This leads to his discovery of how instrumental his family’s past is to him in finding his future. Evening performances are followed by Art Prevails Project’s signature artist talk and a special reception with complimentary drinks and light bites.

Feeding South Florida® – the leading hunger-relief organization in South Florida – will host its Annual Outrun Hunger 5K in Palm Beach County in celebration of Hunger Action Month on Saturday, Sept. 21. Runners, families and community leaders of all ages will come together to take steps in the beautiful Okeeheelee Park to raise funds and awareness to end hunger in South Florida.

Hunger Action Month, a nationwide initiative created by Feeding America®, takes place throughout September and is designed to raise awareness about the issue of hunger in America and inspire others to take action toward ending it. Throughout the month, Feeding South Florida will offer a range of events and activities to encourage South Florida residents to “GO ORANGE” and engage in various hunger relief efforts.

Outrun Hunger race day check-in opens at 6:30 a.m. and the 5K will begin at 7:30 a.m. After the race, an awards ceremony and a raffle will take place. Participants can join the event as an individual or a team and conduct online fundraising prior to race day.

Capture the uniquely American spirit with our Annual Independence Day Fireworks & Patriotic Concert in partnership with the Ocean Drive Association and City of Miami Beach. The MMF Symphony Orchestra and Alumni Division Singers, conducted by founder and artistic director Michael Rossi, will perform on Ocean Drive before and during the City of Miami Beach’s annual Firework Show. Celebrate the holiday with some of your Favorite Broadway Selections and Patriotic Music including Tchaikovsky’s bombastic 1812 Overture, Armed Forces Salute, Stars and Stripes, and more!

The fireworks display will launch at 9 PM mid-concert. Attendees are encouraged to make reservations at one of the many al fresco ocean-view restaurants or bring their beach chairs, blankets, and picnics.

The Miami Beach Classical Music Festival presents featured performances in the Ocean Drive Association’s resident-centric and family-friendly concert series bringing classical music outside of the concert hall and into the community. Dead Man Walking is an opera by acclaimed composer, Jake Heggie, based on the book and film interpretation of the same name. It’s a powerful retelling of the true story that has profoundly influenced the ongoing debate on the death penalty in America. Settle in for a spectacular live opera experience by Miami Beach Classical Music Festival.

When a New Orleans-based Catholic nun agrees to become pen pals with an inmate convicted of murder on death row, her entire worldview on life, death, forgiveness, and capital punishment is challenged forever.

Heggie will be in residence to work with MMF’s Opera Institute cast to help tell this poignant story featuring a libretto by Tony-award-winning Terrance McNally (Masterclass, Ragtime).

Burgess Modern + Contemporary is thrilled to unveil “INK: 75 Years of Prints”, a vibrant summer exhibition that promises to captivate art lovers and collectors alike with a diverse and dynamic collection of fine art prints, limited editions, and numbered series of works spanning several generations and artistic movements.

Opening on July 19, 2024, from 6 – 9 pm, this exhibition features works by Derrick Adams, Marc Chagall, The Connor Brothers, Salvador Dali, Damien Hirst, Alex Katz, Joan Miro, Jedd Novatt, Pablo Picasso, Ugo Rondinone, Carlos Rolon, David Salle, Kenny Scharf, Frank Stella, Donald Sultan, and Nicole Wittenberg.

Curatorially inspired by the recently opened and highly celebrated exhibition of Alex Katz’s “60 Years of Printmaking” in Paris, the exhibition at Burgess Modern + Contemporary explores the dialogue between historical finesse and contemporary boldness through the works by some of the most celebrated modern and contemporary artists.

Each artwork in “INK: 75 Years of Prints” offers a rare spectrum of styles and techniques and embodies a unique narrative that is both culturally poignant and artistically significant. Marc Chagall’s lithographs, imbued with dreamlike imagery and vibrant colors, invite viewers into his fantastical world, where folklore and personal memory intertwine. Similarly, the surrealist masterpieces of Salvador Dalí push the boundaries of imagination and technique. Alex Katz, whose work also serves as a source of inspiration for this exhibition, is renowned for his flat, bold portraits that capture the essence of his subjects with striking simplicity. Joan Miró’s prints, characterized by playful abstraction and a vivid palette, offer a whimsical yet profound commentary on the human mind. Contemporary artist Derrick Adams’s work reflects on African American culture and identity, often incorporating elements of collage and vibrant patterns that challenge traditional narratives and celebrate individuality. The enigmatic works of The Connor Brothers blur the lines between fiction and reality, using text and imagery to provoke thought and elicit emotional responses. Ugo Rondinone’s prints, celebrated for their meditative and poetic qualities, seamlessly blend natural motifs with minimalist abstraction, offering viewers a contemplative visual experience that transcends the ordinary.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade will host its annual black-tie “Wild About Kids” Disco Ball at the Loews Coral Gables Hotel on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024. The event will kick off with a cocktail reception at 7 p.m. followed by a three-course dinner in the Alhambra Ballroom. South Florida’s community leaders, philanthropists and influencers will be among the guests who will experience the 70s with glitter and glamour under the disco ball. Guests will enjoy dinner, dancing, live entertainment, an engaging program and more to benefit great futures for Miami-Dade area youth.

Proceeds will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s crucial programs and services at its six Clubs and sites combined including its educational after-school programs, tutoring and homework assistance, STEM, recreation, dance, arts and crafts, mentoring and summer and athletic programs. These programs help children realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.

“Salsa Disco Queen” Lucy Grau will provide the soundtrack for the evening singing classic 70s hits from Donna Summer and more. Guests will also enjoy a unique 70s musical performance from Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s youth members. Emmy Award-winning journalist and WSVN Channel 7 News anchor Lynn Martinez will emcee the event. Supporters will have a special opportunity to sponsor a child through donations and participate in a silent auction featuring high-end items and exceptional luxury experiences.

Corteo, the most enchanting arena production from Cirque du Soleil is heading to Sunrise, set to charm audiences. This unique production, directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, first premiered in Montreal in April 2005. Sometimes being slow, small or weak can have its advantages in Survival of the Slowest, the newest summer traveling exhibit presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, running June 7 through September 5, at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS). Guests will get an in-depth look at the often-overlooked species that evolved to slow down as part of their survival strategy in a world where large, strong and fast animals are often at the top of the food chain.

The exhibit will feature 14 habitats with live animals (17 species) and plants. Guests will get an up-close look at wildlife with daily presentations featuring a sloth, a tarantula, tortoises, a hedgehog, a blue-tongued skink and more* via wildlife educators and MODS’ Life Sciences staff. Meet animals that have survived for millions of years despite being very slow and learn about the puzzling sides of evolution and adaptation. Discover the difference between warm- and cold-blooded species, explore why some animals need less food than others and see the unique ways they hide from predators.

This educational exhibit looks at the different survival strategies of various species. How can slow and steady win the race? Does bigger always mean better? What animals benefit from being weak rather than strong? This exhibit looks at the advantages and disadvantages of these different traits.

This world class exhibit is produced by Little Ray’s Nature Exhibitions in collaboration with the Canadian Museum of Nature. It is locally sponsored by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Little Ray’s Nature Centres is the largest exotic animal rescue organization in Canada with educational programs reaching more than one million Canadians each year. Most of the animals in this exhibition are rescues.

About Harden Project Duo

The Harden Project consists of vocalist Ja’Nia Harden and keyboardist John Harden II. Their influences include Bobby McFerrin, Dinah Washington, Al Jarreau, Jimmy Smith, Robert Glasper, Soulive, and Bobby Floyd. The couple blends their influences and life experiences to create soulful groovy sometimes enchanting compositions. They are not afraid of being transparent and open while performing. The goal of the project is to bring soul-stirring, emotion-provoking, life-influenced music to the world and features fusion-based music of all genres, heavily influenced by jazz, social music, and soul.

The Historical Legacy of Juneteenth

On “Freedom’s Eve,” or the eve of January 1, 1863, the first Watch Night services took place. On that night, enslaved and free African Americans gathered in churches and private homes all across the country awaiting news that the Emancipation Proclamation had taken effect. At the stroke of midnight, prayers were answered as all enslaved people in the Confederate States were declared legally free. Union soldiers, many of whom were black, marched onto plantations and across cities in the South reading small copies of the Emancipation Proclamation and spreading the news of freedom in Confederate States. Only through the Thirteenth Amendment did emancipation end slavery throughout the United States. Not everyone in Confederate territory would immediately be free. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. As a result, in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas, enslaved people would not be free until much later. Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as “Juneteenth,” by the newly freed people in Texas. Juneteenth marks our country’s second independence day. Although it has long been celebrated in the African American community, this monumental event remains largely unknown to most Americans. Lopez is the founder of ‘What’s Your Elephant™,’ a nonprofit transformative arts movement addressing the unspoken. She actively supports various causes and serves on the Executive Board of Island City Stage. With over 12 years of experience as a teaching artist, she works with children with special needs and teens within the DJJ, fostering creativity and empowerment. A passionate speaker, Lopez addresses topics including art as advocacy, diversity, equity, mental health, and trauma recovery.

Her podcast ‘The Circle’ amplifies creative voices, fostering connections, and inspiring change. Lopez is a recipient of multiple awards, including the 2024 Philanthropy Award by Our Fund Foundation.

MODS is open an hour early for sensory-friendly Museum exploration and activities followed by an IMAX film at 12:30 p.m.

To provide a more sensory-sensitive environment for individuals on the autism spectrum, the theater lights will be turned up and the sound will be lowered. All films will be presented in 2D. No trailers will be shown before the movie. Audience members are welcome to get up, sing, walk, dance and shout without worrying about complaints. Families may bring snacks from home, as well as blankets and other small items to be comfortable.

Guests can also participate in a variety of sensory based activities throughout the Museum. Children will engage in social interactions and improve the processing, modulation and regulation of sensory input to increase participation in a natural environment.

History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage
accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will present “Wild Florida” from Thursday,
July 11 – Sunday, September 8. This free summer exhibit will feature impressionist fine art
landscapes by Tim Forman along with traditional and modern interpretations of wildlife by local
artists Stephanie McMillan, Kim Heise, Rosemary Fineberg, and Stephanie Leyden. A free
meet and greet with the artists will take place on Thursday, July 11, from 6 – 8 p.m., at the New
River Inn Museum of History building on History Fort Lauderdale’s campus (231 Southwest
Second Avenue). Complimentary light bites and beverages will be provided.
Tim Forman is the third generation of Formans to have been born and reared in South Florida.
He first picked up the brush at nine years old under the instruction of Peter Olsen. By 17,
Forman was receiving commissions. Primarily a self-taught artist, Forman’s work is the result of
dedicated practice. He uses field sketches, plein air paintings, and photographs to compose his
pieces that are painted in layers with both knife and brush. He creates his landscapes to portray
the splendor and simplicity of the natural world around us. Through his work, Tim seeks to lift
the spirits and inspire awe above our day-to-day lives.
History Fort Lauderdale hosts a variety of engaging multicultural experiences, year-round. It
seeks to bring awareness to the community through both traveling exhibits and multiple
permanent exhibits including “Women Trailblazers,” “Fort Lauderdale – the Early Years,” “The
African American Experience,” “Fashion & Musical Theatre,” “From Dugouts to Dream Yachts:
the story of boatbuilding along the New River,” Seminole Arts & Culture,” “New River
Archaeology,” “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art & Culture,” and “Take PRIDE, a
retrospective on LGBTQ life in South Florida.”
“Wild Florida” is sponsored by the following funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Jan
and Ed Crocker Unrestricted Fund, Leo M. and Alice J. Rutten Fund and The Frederick A.

DeLuca Foundation Broward Community Fund. Additional funding is provided, in part, by
Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward County
Cultural Council, and Visit Lauderdale. This organization is also sponsored by the State of
Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts & Culture.
History Fort Lauderdale is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. with docent guided
tours, daily, at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Group walking tours are available upon special request.
Admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid
student ID). Admission is free for members, military and children ages six and under. Tickets

GOL! CityPlace Doral – South Florida’s premier wellness, entertainment, dining and restaurant destination – is teaming up with RECREA to host a three-day Soccer Fest Summer Experience in celebration of CONMEBOL Copa America and the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship (UEFA Euro 2024). The free, family-friendly events will take place in CityPlace Doral’s Fountain Plaza on June 14, June 28 and July 12.

Guests of all ages will have the opportunity to participate in interactive, inflatable games of soccer, table games and costume character performances by soccer stars Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez while enjoying live music from a DJ.

The event on Friday, June 14, 6-8 p.m., includes an Inflatable soccer field, penalty shoot and soccer performance by costume characters Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

CONMEBOL Copa America 2024 is the world’s oldest international soccer tournament and will bring 16 teams to the U.S. for its 48th edition. The competition will begin on June 20 and will take place in 14 venues nationwide, including the Hardrock Stadium in Miami on June 23 and June 29, leading up to the highly anticipated Copa America Final on July 14. The 17th edition of UEFA EURO 2024 will showcase the talents of 24 European soccer teams across 10 world-class stadiums from June 14–July 14.

Founded by artists in 1950 as the Art Guild of Boca Raton, the Boca Raton Museum of Art has evolved into a vital cultural resource.
