Community Bay Day is Shake-a-Leg Miami’s monthly open house where the public can take advantage of everything Shake-a-Leg Miami offers – including opportunities to go sailing, kayaking and learn about camps, lessons, and other activities.

Shake-a-Leg Miami is a non-profit organization that offers lessons, water sports rentals, and special outings in addition to being one of the largest adaptive water sports centers in the United States.

HEAT TV broadcasters and two of South Florida’s leading sports media personalities, Eric Reid and Tony Fiorentino have joined forces again to announce the dates for the annual Reid & Fiorentino Call Of The Game Dinner & Celebrity Golf Classic. The two-day fund raising event will take place in March, attracting some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment, while honoring the achievements by some of the region’s most celebrated sporting and community heroes. Please bear with me while I get very excited. Bar 721 makes me unreasonably ecstatic. It is the best bar in Miami Beach, hands down. My enamorment with this establishment is fueled by several crucial factors I shall outline here.

Smoke free? Check!
Amazing happy hour? Check!
Friendly staff and clientele? Check!
Appealing, full liquor cocktail menu with exotic drinks? Check!
Comfortable couches? Clean venue? Nice Decor? Check, Check, Check!
WELCOMES MY DOG!?!?!?!? CHECK!!!!!

So while I calm myself down I’ll also point out that while this is a gay friendly establishment, there has been a mixed crowd every time I’ve visited. It’s large enough to feel spacious but small enough to be manageable and cozy. Music differs from night to night but at times they bring in DJs in the later evening hours. TVs are there and usually on if you would like to watch sports, but no food is served. Friendly staff usually allows you to bring in to-go stuff from local eateries, though.

721 is in the space that used to be the “Laundry Bar.” Please do not let this scare you. There is not a hint of this venue’s former self present any more. Everything has been gutted and it doesn’t resemble the old dive at all. Cheers!

In the wake of Cyber Monday and after all the Thanksgiving leftovers Red Bull is preparing to deck the halls, or at least the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Ft. Lauderdale . The world’s best wakeboarders and wakeskaters will descend on the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex this Friday for Red Bull Wake of Fame.

Top Wake Athletes Create Waves at Ft. Lauderdale Aquatic Complex

Red Bull Wake of Fame marks the next generation of wakeboarding and wakeskating as it pushes the boundaries of the sport. At the legendary Ft. Lauderdale Aquatic Complex that is nestled just behind the International Swimming Hall of Fame, there are three pools that typically host world champion swimmers and divers but on Friday, December 3rd it will transform into a “wake park” and become the newest playground for the industry’s top riders.

Set amongst three outdoor pools – training lap pool, competition pool and diving well – each is linked together by features including hand rails, sliders, a quarter pipe and a kicker that are sure to make for some big air tricks. The winch system allows the athletes to use their most creative and dynamic skills along the course, which is inspired by skateboard parks. Each athlete will be judged on execution, difficulty, style, amplitude and overall composition of tricks in their run.

A field of the top international wake athletes has been hand selected to compete in this innovative new format competition.

The Miami Dolphins announced today that Academy Award-nominated Hollywood actress and recording artist, JULIETTE LEWIS, will perform with a special guest appearance by co-founding member, principal co-songwriter, lead guitarist and co-producer of Aerosmith, JOE PERRY, at the Land Shark Tailgate Stage on the AT&T Grand Plaza at Sun Life Stadium on Thursday, November 18th, prior to the Dolphins-Bears game presented by Wachovia. The exclusive pre-game Tailgate concert will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Following the release of two highly acclaimed albums with her band, The Licks, Juliette Lewis released her debut solo album Terra Incognita last fall. Produced by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Grammy Award winning leader of Mars Volta, her vocal performances on the album showcase a remarkably dynamic range going from haunting to soulful and roaring. Lewis wrote most of the 11 tracks with long time friend and musician Chris Watson and recorded the album in between both of her and Omar’s tours at the end of 2008. The record was mixed by the legendary Rich Cosey (NIN, Muse, Foo Fighters). After performing a number of songs from her solo album, Juliette will be joined by special guest guitar legend from Aerosmith, Joe Perry, to perform two additional songs together live on-stage.

“I’m looking forward to performing on the Land Shark Tailgate Stage for South Florida’s biggest party,” said Lewis. “Over the years, I’ve traveled around the country and overseas to perform at numerous concert venues and clubs, but rarely do I get to perform for such a major sporting event in front of an audience with such a passion for their home team. After spending six years focusing on her music, Juliette Lewis recently made her return to the screen in four major film projects. She is currently receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences alike in “Conviction,” in which she appears alongside Hilary Swank and Sam Rockwell. She also co-stars in director Todd Phillips’ new film, “Due Date,” out this month, with Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis. The Tenth Annual OBYFA Cheer & Dance Championships presented by Sports Authority happens this Sunday, November 14 at Nova Southeastern’s Don Taft University Center. Doors open at 8:00 a.m. The competition begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. and continues throughout the day. Each cheer and dance squad will be divided into competitive classes: small (4-15 participants), medium (16-22 participants), and large (23-35 participants), and judged in “Cheer/Dance/Stunt” categories.

Tickets for the Tenth Annual Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance Cheer & Dance Championships presented by Sports Authority in association with community sponsor Wachovia A Wells Fargo Company will go on sale November 14 beginning at 7:00 a.m. at the Don Taft University Center box office. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under with no admission charge for lap children. OBYFA participants wearing their team jersey with “The Patch” will be admitted free of charge.

The University of Miami women’s soccer is officially deeming its final home game the “MALAIKA Game” honoring its partnership with the MALAIKA FOR LIFE foundation in an effort to raise funds to battle malaria in Africa.

Since the first game of this season, the UM soccer team has partnered with MALAIKA FOR LIFE to create “Scoring Goals to Save Lives”. The initiative has seen the soccer program donate $10 for every goal scored by the Hurricanes. The UM soccer team, lead by Brittney Steinbruch, ACC Freshman of the year, has raised a total of $1,780.

Please come out and show your support! During half-time, Kristen will be called to the center of the field, where she will receive an autographed soccer ball and check for the money raised.

South Florida’s Biggest Away Game Party Hosted By and In Downtown Boca For Dolphins Season Opener To Draw Finatics From Miami to Jensen Beach as fans of all ages and their families, friends and colleagues are invited to cheer on their South Florida home team during the first Dolphins game of the 2010 season against the Green Bay Packers. Serving as the official kick-off of Downtown Boca’s new Super Sundays programming that will include a variety of family-friendly events throughout the year, the Dolphins and Downtown Boca are teaming up to host free and open-to-the-public festivities, including meet-and-greets, autographs and photos with Dolphins alumni including Manny Fernandez, performances by Dolphins Cheerleaders, and plenty of music, entertainment, games, giveaways and game watching. The youngest fans can play at the Dolphins Bounce House and register to participate in the Downtown Boca Dolphins Gatorade Jr. There will be a youth football clinic with Dolphin Alum and youth cheerleading clinic with Dolphin cheerleaders, while both young and older can test their skills at the Dolphins Football Toss. Throughout the day, attendees will be entertained by stilt walkers and power skippers, plus get the chance to be photographed with a “live” bronze football player statue and view the game on TV screens in and about activity areas. The City of Boca Raton and The Miami Dolphins invite the South Florida community and all Dolphins’ fans to Downtown Boca for the first official Dolphins’ pep rally of the 2010 season that will include a special joint fan program news announcement on Thursday, August 12th at the Mizner Park Amphitheater. 38 Teams to Take the Plunge into Biscayne Bay on July 10 th at Bayfront Park

MIAMI – May 6, 2010 – Teams from across the east coast look to defy gravity with their human-powered flying machines on July 10th at Red Bull Flugtag Miami. After reviewing more than 270 applications, 38 teams received their boarding passes to participate in the outrageous flying competition hosted at Bayfront Park. Selected flyers like Team American Muscle, Save Salad Toss Pizza and Das Jorts, will entertain the crowd as they launch their crafts with hopes of soaring across the bay.

If your German is a bit rusty, Flugtag means “flying day.” Each team of daredevils will launch from 30 feet above Biscayne Bay at Bayfront Park and attempt to take flight in their homemade crafts. The panel of celebrity judges will take three criteria into account in deciding who makes the podium: distance flown, creativity of the craft and the team’s showmanship on stage. Spectators will also have the opportunity to chime in for their favorite team via SMS voting to select the People’s Choice.

Red Bull Flugtag Miami will have 38 outrageous crafts, ranging from flying squirrels, a giant guitar and a three tiered wedding cake topped with a bride and groom, built by participants ranging from pilots to engineering students and animators to roller derby girls. Each team of five will need to bring out their inner stuntman and sheer silliness in order to make a splash against a wide array of talent.

While the sky may be the limit on creativity, there are still a few flight regulations. First off, all flying machines must be entirely human-powered (no external energy sources or stored power, so forget about the slingshots, catapults or anything besides your own burliness). Second, no matter what they say, size does matter – all crafts must be less than 30 feet wide and must weigh no more than 450 lbs. (including the pilot).

PREPARE FOR TAKE OFF

For Flugtag novices, the first Red Bull Flugtag took off in Vienna, Austria in 1991 and has since visited more than 30 countries around the world attracting crowds of up to 300,000. Currently, 195 feet stands as the farthest flight which was set back in 2000 in Austria, but the US isn’t far behind with a record of 155 feet set in 2007 in Nashville, Tenn.! Miami will host the first 2010 Red Bull Flugtag in the US followed by the Twin Cities, MN, Long Beach, CA and Philadelphia, PA.

Red Bull Flugtag is a free event and open to the public. Gates open at 10:00am and the first craft launches for flight at 12:00pm.

WHAT: The Brickell Tennis Club hosts Maccabi World Union & Emunah of America’s first annual Pro Am tennis match featuring Shahar Pe’er & Andy Ram Sunday, March 21st in an effort to raise money in support of Maccabi’s Pesach Food Program for the needy, and to support the activities of Emunah’s educational and social service programs for orphans and poor families in Israel.
The ProAm Tennis Match will take place from 5::00-6:30pm followed by a cocktail reception featuring international musical guest Dj Irie from 7:00-9:00pm. The reception will feature an open bar sponsored by Tu-Be Branding and a VIP reception with athletes and other special guests. Other sponsors include Crescent Hieghts, Harke Clasby & Bushman LLP, Assist- Card and Grandpas’s Coffee and Tea Cakes.

On August 29, 2006, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications announced the signing of a four year contract to become the title sponsor of the Sony Ericsson Open. With $9 million in prize money the Sony Ericsson Open is currently the largest tournament in the world with Title Sponsorship. When Butch Buchholz established the event in 1985, it marked the first time in 56 years that a new two-week tournament featuring men and women was launched. Located in Delray Beach (Laver’s International Tennis Center) in 1985 and Boca Raton (Boca West) in 1986, the tournament found a permanent home in 1987 on Miami’s Key Biscayne. On Friday, August 8, at 8:00 p.m. CocoWalk will host a kickoff celebration for the Beijing Summer Olympic games featuring a live screening of the opening ceremony on a large screen television set on the courtyard’s stage.

In addition to CocoWalk’s screening of the event, Bice Bistro will add to the Olympic spirit with a dinner party debut of the restaurant’s special pre-fix Olympic dinner menu that will available throughout the duration of the Olympic games. Special guests at Bice Bistro’s dinner party include Brigitte Andrade, creator and publisher of The Adventures of Bibi & Friends, and Charlotte Barron, who are also celebrating the latest online edition of The Adventures of Bibi & Friends. The story line follows features Bibi and her fictional cousin LILI as they travel to Beijing for the Olympic games. Also joining Bibi and LILI, is the real life Louis Aguirre, of Deco Drive, who will be co-reporting with Bibi on the Olympics.
