In a program designated Triptych Miami, Eleonora Fabião will present three interrelated components. The action I Will Have a Conversation About Any Subject/Converso Sobre Cualquier Asunto finds the artist at various public locations over the course of three days, barefoot, sitting and facing an empty chair, and displaying a sign bearing the invitation of the work’s title. The artist will also present a lecture performance about her practice; a workshop with young artists titled Performance Art, Artistic Strategies, and Political Imagination (New World School of the Arts); and Light Cloud, an action that will be performed along with the workshop participants in downtown Miami. The unpredictable encounters that result from these open-ended situations constitute the works. Born in Brazil in1968, Eleonora Fabião is an artist and theorist who has performed actions in the streets since 2008. In 2011, she received the Arts in the Streets Award from the Brazilian National Foundation of the Arts and in 2014 the Rumos Itaú Cultural Grant that resulted in the publication of the book AÇÕES/ ACTIONS. Fabião is a professor at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in the Theater Directing Undergraduate Program and the Arts of the Scene Graduate Program, where she chairs the artistic experimentation wing. Fabião is interested in the poetics and ethics of the strange, of the encounter, of precariousness. She considers the street actions as forms of knowledge and thought, and understands concepts and theories as sources of energy to keep investigating and inventing city, art, university, and writing. Her performance work has taken place in several venues including as part of Performa15 in New York in 2015, and at the Centro Municipal de Arte Hélio Oiticica and the Museu Bispo do Rosário, both in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Who put the gold in the Golden Age? Bride of the White Widow, a multi-media event by performance art collective My Barbarian (Malik Gaines, Jade Gordon, and Alexandro Segade), playfully –and critically–wrestles with this question in a surreal, post-colonial tale about the doomed crew of the White Widow, seventeenth century Dutch sailors lost in the so-called New World. A show within a show, Bride of the White Widow is an interactive play, exploring contemporary issues of cultural appropriation, globalism, and environmental collapse through song, dance, and games with the audience. A restaging of My Barbarian’s Voyage of the White Widow, originally commissioned by De Appel, Amsterdam, in 2006, and included in Performa 02 at the Whitney Museum, New York, the performance at the Light Box in Miami explores My Barbarian’s sixteen-year journey as a performance collective. Working at the intersection of visual art, theater, and critical practice, My Barbarian uses performance to theatricalize social problems and imagine ways of being together. Founded in Los Angeles in 2000, the group’s work moves through different modes that prepare for, present, and represent live performance: music composition, plays, and other texts; costumes, masks, puppets and sets; video; and drawings and prints. The group has performed and exhibited widely while maintaining a focus on the provocation of theatricality in the visual-art context. My Barbarian has been included in the Whitney Biennial, two Performa Biennials, two California Biennials, the Montreal Biennial, and the Baltic Triennial.

Karen Finley’s rave-reviewed solo performance Unicorn Gratitude Mystery explores psychological portrayals of the power that drives American election politics. Set in the recent US political presidential landscape, it takes on citizenship, gender disparity, and abuse of power. The individual cost of public relationships at the expense of privacy becomes divisive with searing psychosexual dynamics of wit and seething revelation. The performance includes magical beings, aggressive thankfulness, and collective intimacy through Shakespearean family nation dramatic traumatics. Playing a unicorn and morphing into a Hillary-like, Trump-like being while enveloping into the blueness of the blue dress of Monica Lewinsky, Finley embodies an experimental nonlinear poetic text that creates a jolt of intuition, analysis, and unnatural disaster of the human kind. Karen Finley is a pioneering interdisciplinary artist who has performed and exhibited internationally. Her recent work includes Mandala: Reimagined Columbus Circle, an interactive walk that examines the symbols and history of Columbus Circle; Artist Anonymous, a self-help meeting for those addicted to art; Written in Sand, a performance of her writings on AIDS; Open Heart, a Holocaust memorial at Camp Gusen, Austria; and Sext Me If You Can, where Finley creates commissioned portraits inspired by “sexts” received from the public. She is the author of eight books, including her latest, the twenty-fifth anniversary edition of Shock Treatment (City Lights). Grabbing Pussy (OR Books) is forthcoming in 2018. A recipient of many awards and grants, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, she is a professor of Art and Public Policy at New York University.

MIAMI, FL – Renowned actor Avi Hoffman will star in the South Florida premiere of Reflections of A Lost Poet. Reflections will run at The Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center’s (MAR-JCC) Cultural Arts Theatre (JCAT) from Wednesday, December 13 through Sunday, December 24, 2017.
Reflections of A Lost Poet will be performed in the original Yiddish language with both English and Spanish supertitles. Performances in Yiddish with English supertitles have proven to be a success, as with Mr. Hoffman’s Drama Desk nominated Off-Broadway performance of Willy Loman in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman in Yiddish and Paula Vogel’s Indecent, seen last year on Broadway and on PBS, in which some of the dialog was in Yiddish.
Reflections of A Lost Poet, written by acclaimed playwright Miriam Hoffman, (who is also Avi’s mother and was recently inducted into the Bronx Jewish Hall of Fame), is a one-man tour de force following the life and times of Itzik Manger, considered one of the greatest Yiddish poets. The play is a serious, occasionally funny, monologue comprised of songs and poems, capturing Manger’s joy and anguish during the tumultuous years of Europe’s burgeoning Jewish culture, before it was decimated by WWII. The Megillah of Itzik Manger was the last musical performed on Broadway, entirely in Yiddish, in 1968.
“It will be one of my most meaningful performances, as it’s written by my mother and I’ll be speaking solely in Yiddish, which is the heart and soul of the great poet Itzik Manger’s work,” said Avi Hoffman. “For the past few years, my mother and I have reestablished the Joseph Papp Yiddish Theatre, which aims to keep the Yiddish culture alive. The fact that this show will be performed in Yiddish, with English and Spanish subtitles, is a step in helping us reach our goal.”

M83 serves as composer and musical director for VOLTATM

Cirque du Soleil is thrilled to announce a new production that will premiere in Miami this December: Cirque du Soleil VOLTATM, written and directed by Bastien Alexandre and with Jean Guibert as the director of creation. International electronic group M83, previously announced as composer and musical director, brings his space-age future pop sound to the Cirque du Soleil stage for the first time ever. The show will be presented under the Big Top next to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami starting December 15, 2017. The name VOLTA refers to a sudden about-face, a change in emotion or idea often used in poetry. It also speaks to the jolt of energy delivered through the show.

Tickets are available to purchase now by visiting cirquedusoleil.com/volta or calling 1-877-9CIRQUE (1-877-924-7783). Tickets start at $40.

The show
VOLTA tells a spellbinding story about the freedom to choose and the thrill of blazing your own trail. Inspired in part by the adventurous spirit that fuels the culture of action sports, the show weaves the adrenaline rush of acrobatics into a visually striking world driven by a stirring melodic score.

VOLTA is a story of transformation. It is about being true to oneself, fulfilling one’s true potential, and the power of the group to make that possible. It celebrates freedom as a movement.

WAZ, a popular gameshow host, has lost touch with his inner self in the pursuit of fame, pulling others in the trap of instant glory. But as doubt sets in, WAZ is enlightened by childhood memories as he encounters “free spirits” who open doors to his inner soul he has long kept shut. On his high-voltage search for meaning, will WAZ find the courage to relinquish his fame, reconnect with his true self, and shine bright?

VOLTA’s creative team comprises 15 creators under the artistic guidance of Jean-François Bouchard:

Forum Productions, in conjunction with the Greenhouse Theater Center NFP, is seeking actors and actresses to portray the lead and supporting roles in Truman and the Birth of Israel, a world premiere play by Chicago playwright William Spatz. Auditions will be held on Friday, September 29, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Mizner Park Cultural Center, 201 Plaza Real in Boca Raton. The production will make its debut on March 21, 2018 and will run through April 8, 2018. Rehearsals start on March 4.

From humble beginnings as a poor farmer, soldier and failed businessman to the unimaginable: president and thrust headlong into global turmoil, Truman and the Birth of Israel tells the real story of how one Missouri man’s unlikely rise to power changed the future of the Jewish people forever. The show is directed by Clayton Phillips and produced by Forum Productions, the highly acclaimed comprehensive stage and theater company based in Chicago. The company has produced/co-produced 17 plays including the well-received Churchill and Solo Celebration!, a series of one-actor plays all staged at the Greenhouse Theater in Chicago.

Actors and actresses (including understudies) are being sought for the following roles:

HARRY S. TRUMAN: (Equity/Non-equity); 50s – late 60s, 33rd President of the United States; Proper and plainspoken but with a temper, Missouri Midwestern drawl with a blunt, yet folksy disposition.

CLARK CLIFFORD: (Non-equity); Early 40s – mid 50s; A lawyer and close friend of Truman’s, handsome, fit, calm and sophisticated.

MELVYN BELLI (Non-equity): Late 30s – 50s; An attorney for the defense who is sarcastic, aggressive and incites provocation.

EDDIE JACOBSON: (Non-equity); 50s – 60s; A close friend of Truman’s; in real life paunchy and balding, soft-spoken, under-educated, comes across as an awkward country fellow from Missouri but his easygoing personality makes him a good salesman.

BELLA ABZUG: (Non-equity); early 30s – early 40s; Truman’s attorney, an unmistakable New Yorker, born of Russian Jewish parents, with personality galore. Not a shrinking violet, though she’s both advocating for and attacking the former President of the United States.

AL SCHWIMMER: (Non-equity); 40s – 50s; Witness for the defense who is a handsome and commanding presence – forceful and confident.

Auditioning candidates should have a one-minute dramatic monologue and prior to the audition will be given a section of the script to be performed. For an appointment, please send a headshot and resume to wmspatz@gmail.com.

Mad Cat Theatre Company continues its 17th season with a production of two of Vaclav Havel’s sharp political dramas AUDIENCE and PROTEST.

The subversive Czechoslovakian playwright, Prime Minister & President, Vaclav Havel was in danger of being declared a “social parasite” by the neo-Stalinist regime of Gustav Husák when he wrote AUDIENCE & PROTEST back in 1975 & 1978.

AUDIENCE deals with the travails of Havel’s alter-ego Ferdinand Vanek – recently released from jail for anti-government activities. Valek is stuck in the bleak office of the foreman of the brewery where he has been forced into menial labour. The tedious bureaucracy and constant paranoia of life under the Communists have driven the foreman to alcoholism and to the brink of insanity – he is prone to bouts of rage and despair.

In PROTEST, Havel’s alter ego Ferdinand Valek has escaped his hellish office to visit the middle-class home of one of his friends. He is hoping to convince his old friend Stanek to sign a petition renouncing the regime.

Both plays seek to shine a light on the darkness of censorship and tyrannical rule. Don’t miss the show that critics and audiences are raving over!

Directed by Paul Tei and Theo Reyna
Featuring Erik Fabregat, Michael Gioia, Noah Levine, and Pete Smith Rogan

Vaclav Havel’s AUDIENCE and PROTEST is running now through March 12, 2017, with performances Thursday – Sunday 8 p.m. in MTC’s Sand Box located at 9816 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami Shores FL 33138. Video & live performance
Created by Natalia Lassalle

A powerful exploration of what it means to be a woman. To grow old, and to remember. This piece, which is part documentary video and part live performance, is a journey into the lives of women over 65 years of age across Miami, Puerto Rico and Quebec. Retiro melds the autobiographical with the surreal to illustrate the volatility of time, the reconstruction of memories, and the process of aging in women.

The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Carousel is a powerful ride of hope and tears. With stunning choreography and breathtaking music, Carousel was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s personal favorite of all their musicals, and was dubbed “the Best Musical of the 20th Century” by Time magazine. From the magical evocation of the carousel in the overture to the majestic and moving strains of the immortal song “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” this giant of the musical stage remains timeless and star bright. The poignant and heartbreaking story of the faithful Julie and her brutish husband Billy is one of the most powerful books in musical theatre history and perfectly matches its extraordinary score with the memorable songs “If I Loved You,” “June is Bustin’ Out All Over,” and Billy Bigelow’s famous “Soliloquy.”

City Theatre and GableStage are proud to co-present a one night only performance of Leslie Ayvazian’s new one-woman show, Mention My Beauty, on Monday, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. Ayvazian, whose plays are often produced at City Theatre’s Summer Shorts Festival, first performed a preview of the piece at CityWrights 2015. Since then, she has developed and performed Mention My Beauty at New York’s Ensemble Studio Theatre and Cherry Lane Theatre, creating a show based on her own provocative, touching and hilarious coming of age during the 60’s and 70’s. Engaging, irreverent and timely, Mention My Beauty is also a revealing showcase for an extraordinary performer who has been seen on Broadway, off-Broadway, television and regional stages. City Theatre, which is committed to new work and its extended family of playwrights locally and nationwide, is very pleased to bring Ayvazian back to Miami for audiences to enjoy the play and performance that developed from those first pages.

City Theatre is happy to be partnering with GableStage for this event. Joe Adler, Producing Artistic Director of the company, has once again generously offered his theatre to audiences who appreciate an evening of new work in its intimate space. The performance is free, but seating is limited. Following the performance there will be a talkback discussion.

Miami New Drama officially begins its 2017 season with the American premiere of Terror. Directed by two-time Tony Award-winning Director Gregory Mosher, with Artistic Direction from Co-Founder Michel Hausmann. Miami New Drama brings the American adaptation and translation of this German play stateside.

Acclaimed international drama casts the audience as jurors, while Colony Theatre’s stage transforms into a courtroom. The storyline follows a pilot facing trial after she has shot down a hijacked commercial flight headed for a crowded stadium. Her fate is in the audience’s hands. To further the show’s interactive quality and to track the theatrical trial’s verdict, audiences can check statistics of votes on http://terror.theater. The statistics show the distribution of audience votes of “guilty” and “not guilty” as the play unfolds.

Alexander knows it is going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day when he wakes up with gum in his hair, and he is right. Things only get worse as the day goes on: his best friend bails on him, there’s no dessert in his lunch bag, there’s lima beans for dinner and kissing on TV! The only reasonable response is to move to Australia. Judith Viorst adapted her own award-winning children’s book into this marvelous musical that is wacky, wild, and wonderfully wise.

It’s time to say goodbye to summer (boo!) and hello to a new school year, so what better way to celebrate this (and say until next year, lovely summer) than with some awesome 90s grunge music? Once a month Artistic Vibes, otherwise known as AV, produces a booked music and poetry night called ReVerb. This month AV presents a totally 90s infused Grunge ReVerb. Some of the line-up for this month includes the very popular local band Panda-Rama, Vee & the Villains, the amazing poet Erika Marrero, and, of course, a performance by our own house poet Narciso Montas (who will make your heart beat faster with his poetry!).

A fierce individualist who cannot be held back, Pippi makes the best of every situation, including teaching the burglars in her house a lesson in manners. At first glance this fun-loving and outrageous young girl seems to not fit in anywhere, but once someone meets her, they can’t seem to live without her. Written by Thomas W. Buyer & Cellar is an outrageous show about the oddest of odd jobs: an underemployed Los Angeles actor who goes to work in Barbra Streisand’s Malibu basement. What follows is a riotously funny new play that gets every comedic element right and ultimately questions the price of fame. Carbonell Award-Winning Actor Chris Crawford will amaze audiences playing a handful of roles including himself, his boyfriend, Streisand’s Manager, James Brolin and ultimately Barbra herself.

Tyrrhenian Blue
A theater play by Antiheroes Project with the support of Artefactus Cultural Project
Tyrrhenian Blue is Antiheroes Project’s latest production, presented with the support of Artefactus Cultural Project. The piece, inspired on the life and death of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the author of the Little Prince, is a contemporary reflection on themes that have been at the core of human existence, such as war, solitude, creativity and human destiny. Written and directed by Jose Manuel Dominguez in collaboration with the team of actors, this work explores the enigmatic disappearance of Antoine de Saint-Exupery, over the Tyrrhenian Sea, France and the events surrounding his last morning.

The story begins in the morning of July 31st, 1944, when André Prevot wakes up Saint-Exupéry for what would turn out to be the last flight of the French pilot. The end of a legendary, controversial, bohemian, and arbitrary man. For years, a life eclipsed by his greatest work. Towards the end of his life, an existence as fascinating as his own masterpiece. What was going on in his life the day of his death? What thoughts was the great humanitarian preoccupied with during his final hours?

In a run-down movie theater in central Massachusetts, three underpaid employees mop the floors and attend to one of the last 35 millimeter film projectors in the state. Their tiny battles and not-so-tiny heartbreaks play out in the empty aisles, becoming more gripping than the lackluster, second-run movies on screen. With keen insight and a finely-tuned comic eye, The Flick is a hilarious and heart-rending cry for authenticity in a fast-changing world.

MDC Live Arts Offers a Mind-Bending Theater Experience
The Org Welcomes Back Cutting-Edge Chilean Theater Company Teatro Cinema

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) MDC Live Arts performing arts series presents the wildly inventive Chilean theater company, Teatro Cinema , at 8 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 16, at the Colony Theatre. The company will present Historia de Amor (Love Story), the final work in a trilogy on the subject of love, based on a graphic novel by Regis Jauffret.

The cutting-edge Teatro Cinema virtually escapes the confines of theater, using film technique, special effects, mirrors, digital imaging, and highly stylized sets to create the illusion of travelling through time and space. Live performers insert themselves into filmed and photographed backdrops and interact with illustrated stills and animations inspired by graphic novels, immersing audiences in the world that is being created.

In Historia de Amor, the company applies these techniques to tell a story that addresses the thin line between reason and madness, love and domination. An English teacher abducts a young woman and turns her into his victim, concubine and mother. He takes over her life in multiple ways, leaving her with no choice but to accept her situation and turn inward for solace. The comic-book aesthetic and black-and-white palette highlight the fragmented, solitary psyches of the woman and her captor with more nuance than theater or film alone could.

“The technical ingenuity in what they do is undeniably immense” -The Guardian

“I remain in awe of the company’s unparalleled creativity and technical prowess,” said MDC Live Arts Executive Director Kathryn Garcia.”We are thrilled to welcome them back to Miami where they will surely influence future theater makers and audiences with their distinctive technique and style.”

Leading up to their performance, the Teatro Cinema company will offer a mullti-day workshop to Teatro Prometeo students at MDC Wolfson Campus. The residency will be an instensive look in to the company’s technique–from storyboarding to content to staging and direction.

ABOUT TEATRO CINEMA
Teatro Cinema was founded in 1987 by puppeteer Jaime Lorca, performer-designer Laura Pizarro, and writer-director Juan Carlos Zagal. They explain they chose their company’s original name “La Troppa” (The Troop) to suggest “a troop of artists marching across the demolished horizons of the cultural decay that our country had been pushed to.” The group toured extensively as La Troppa with El Santo Patrono (1987), Salmon-Voodoo (1988), Rap del Quijote (1989), Pinocchio (1991), Lobo (1992), Viaje al Centro de la Tierra (1995), Gemelos (1999), and Jesús Betz (2003). In 2005 it was renamed Teatrocinema to highlight the way its diverse artists unite theater and cinema. Historia de Amor is part of a trilogy that includes Sin Sangre (Without Blood, 2007) and El hombre que daba de beber a las mariposas (The Man Who Fed Butterflies, 2010), which toured to Lincoln Center Festival; Théâtre de la Ville and Odeón; Teatro San Martín, Buenos Aires; Piccolo Teatro, Milan; and festivals in Avignon, Bogotá, Berlin, Edinburgh, Guanajuato, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, and Vienna. Juan Carlos Zagal and Laura Pizarro were both born in Santiago and trained at the Catholic University of Chile. Zagal is director, performer, writer, and composer for Teatro Cinema. Pizarro was a performer, writer, and director for their work as La Troppa and is art director and designer for Teatro Cinema.

A grad student’s personal ad lures a mysterious girl to his subterranean research lab under the pretense of an evening of “no strings attached” sex. But when a global catastrophe strikes, their date takes on evolutionary significance. An epic and intimate comedy that spans over billions of years.

“At first glans “Boom” suggests a “Twilight Zone” rewritten as a sitcom… It winds up speaking, quietly and piquantly, to our enduring fascination with and need for myths about the beginning of life as well as its end.”
– New York Times

“A Grandly wacked-out apocalypse fantasy, one of those charmed evenings.”

“Provocative, intelligent, top-notch musical theater… The creators deserve to light some nice, big Cuban cigars… They have written a complex story, told exceptionally well.” –Berkshire On Stage, after a critically acclaimed sold-out run Off-Broadway.

Music by Salomon Lerner
Lyrics By Len Schiff
Book and Direction by Michel Hausmann

SYNOPSIS
The Golem of Havana tells the story of a Hungarian-Jewish family living in Batista’s Havana on the brink of the Cuban Revolution. When their maid’s son, a guerrilla fighter, is injured, they must choose between protecting him and guarding their first fragile grasp on prosperity since their arrival. The Golem of Havana weaves together the music and traditions of two worlds, asking questions about family, community, religion, and politics.

ABOUT
Developed at the prestigious New York Theatre Workshop, The Golem of Havana has enjoyed sold-out productions Off-Broadway at La MaMa E.T.C. in New York City and in the Berkshires at Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning theatre company in downtown Pittsfield, MA. There, the musical became the fastest selling new show in the theatre’s history. The musical was also a Richard Rodgers Award finalist for New Musical Theatre and an Independent Reviews of New England Award (IRNE) nominee for best play.

“A delightful new holiday tradition” —Talkin’ Broadway

It’s now one year since his miraculous transformation, and good old Scrooge is back to his old ways, or so it seems. Ebenezer is now suing Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future for breaking and entering, kidnapping, slander, pain and suffering, attempted murder, and intentional infliction of emotional stress. It’s the “Trial of the Century” with hysterical courtroom antics. With this all-new, very smart and clever script, worthy of the Dickens original, playwright Mark Brown has created an entertaining, funny and uplifting new tradition for the holiday season.

Based on The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe from The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, this musical adaptation is fun for the whole family, featuring unforgettable songs and popular characters. The story begins with the land of Narnia frozen in a perpetual winter of darkness and despair, seemingly all under the dominion of the White Witch, Queen Jadis, including the intelligent talking animals once ruled by the great and majestic lion Aslan, King of Narnia. Though Aslan is often absent from the land (so that his very existence is doubted by some), he returns when the need for him is greatest, bringing with him an end to the long winter, and making an ultimate sacrifice of love, culminating in a battle between good and evil. Entering at a moment of high adventure in the story are four children, transported from our world through a magical wardrobe.

Baptist Children’s Hospital will present a Teddy Bear Casting Clinic on December 5 following the 2 p.m. performance

The show
TORUK – The First Flight is a live immersive multimedia spectacle that brings to the stage the breathtaking world of James Cameron’s AVATAR like you have never seen it before.

Through a riveting fusion of cutting-edge visuals, puppetry and stagecraft buoyed by a soaring cinematic score, Cirque du Soleil applies its unique signature style to James Cameron’s imaginary world and “makes the bond” between two kindred artistic visions that capture the imagination.

This live immersive experience also bears the distinct signature of directors and multimedia innovators Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon. It is a living ode to the Na’vi’s symbiotic coexistence with nature and their belief in the basic interconnectedness of all living things.

Narrated by a “Na’vi Storyteller” and populated by unforgettable characters, TORUK – The First Flight is a mythical tale set thousands of years before the events depicted in the film AVATAR, and before any humans ever set foot on Pandora.

When a natural catastrophe threatens to destroy the sacred Tree of Souls, Ralu and Entu, two Omaticaya boys on the brink of adulthood, fearlessly decide to take matters into their own hands. Upon learning that Toruk can help them save the Tree of Souls, they set out, together with their newfound friend Tsyal, on a quest high up in the Floating Mountains to find the mighty red and orange predator that rules the Pandoran sky. Prophecy is fulfilled when a pure soul rises among the clans to ride Toruk for the first time and save the Na’vi from a terrible fate.

New Community Theater Opens in South Miami

Improv South Miami (ISM), a new theater located in South Miami that welcomes directors, actors, improvisers and local artists, will be hosting its grand opening on Saturday, August 22, 2015, from 8-10 p.m.

“We are so excited to be opening Improv South Miami, a non-profit organization focused on the local improv, arts and theater community. We want this theater space to be accessible for both established and up-and-coming theater and arts groups in South Florida,” said ISM founder Katrina Morris.

At ISM’s grand opening, house team Cage Free Humans, of which Morris is a member, will be headlining the entirely improvised comedy performance. Local improv teams Comedy School Dropouts and Miamah Comedy’s Battlecat will be opening for the show.

ISM was formed by Morris to provide low-cost rehearsal space and a free performance venue, with a percentage of funds raised going back to the performing artists. “The South Florida improv community is growing rapidly, with workshops and shows happening year-round. As the community grows, affordable rehearsal and performance space for independent teams are difficult to find,” she said.
