American Academy, a program within American Heritage Schools, is pleased to host “Learn How to Learn…for Children and Teens with Learning Differences,” a virtual event via Zoom on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. This event is part of American Academy’s monthly program, “Experts in Learning Differences” speaker series. Hosted by Alexandra Rollins, admissions director of the American Academy Program, the expert speakers for the November event are Mira Halpert, M.Ed., founder and president of 3D Learner, and Mark Halpert, MBA, RMT, director of 3D Learner.

Kids who learn differently often learn best when they see and experience information. Too often, educational testing focuses on what is wrong with the child and does not fully encompass their strengths. During this virtual event, Mira and Mark Halpert of 3D Learner will explain how to identify the child who learns differently, the importance of addressing his or her challenges, and the benefits of strength-based parenting and education. Viewers will also learn their strengths and challenges as caregivers, useful tips on parenting, and the value of collaboration with their child’s teachers and school.

Mira is a champion for kids who learn differently. Her father was a great musical conductor who was able to bring together a whole orchestra; Mira sees herself as an ‘educational conductor’ who brings together parents, teachers, schools, and outside professionals to help maximize children’s strengths, identify and address their weaknesses, and unleash their potential. Mira has a degree in Developmental Psychology and a master’s degree in education from the University of Michigan.

“When our daughter was told, ‘You are not college material,’ we asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up. She said, ‘The teacher I never had!!!’ It was at that moment I became a mom on a mission determined to help bright kids who learn differently learn how THEY learn best,” said Mira Halpert, founder and president of 3D Learner. “My passion is helping kids learn how to learn the way they learn and providing them with the opportunity to be all they can be.”

Mark co-authored with his wife, Mira, a best-selling book titled, “The 3D Learner: Transform Stress to Outrageous Success for Your Child.” He is the director of 3D Learner as well as a math coach and a parent advocate focused on helping children succeed by third grade. Mark also works with his son, Michael, to help student-athletes improve their academic and athletic skills and earn college scholarships, and he champions the effort to improve students’ SAT and ACT scores with a focus on teaching the way they learn best.

American Academy, a program within American Heritage Schools, is pleased to host “Secrets to Better Communication with Your ADHD Teenager,” a virtual event via Zoom on Thursday, September 29 at 7 p.m. This event is part of American Academy’s monthly program, “Experts in Learning Differences” speaker series. Hosted by Alexandra Rollins, admissions director of the American Academy Program, the expert speakers for the September event are Diane Dempster and Elaine Taylor-Klaus, parent coaches and co-founders of ImpactParents.

This virtual event will provide viewers with proven techniques and scripts that can be used for better conversations and will help parents and teachers create harmony at home, in the classroom, and everywhere else. Attendees will learn how to diffuse defensiveness, get buy-in, provide effective feedback, and improve relationships instantly.

“We felt strongly that parents of complex kids with learning differences needed someone to provide support to help their kids navigate life’s complications, and we realized that ‘someone’ was us! Who better than two professional moms whose lives and families had been transformed by coaching to pave a new path for other parents?” said Dempster and Klaus. “Parents and educators want their children and students with learning differences to become independent and believe in themselves. Diane Dempster, MHSA, CPC, PCC is a professional coach, speaker, author and educator with 20 years of corporate leadership experience. Dempster is the co-founder of ImpactParents.com, a coaching organization for parenting neurodiverse kids, and co-creator of Sanity School® and the Sanity School® Certification Program for professionals. An experienced leader, expert in change management, and all-around life-sherpa, Dempster helps clients create deep, sustaining change and open their eyes to life. Dempster received a master’s from the University of Michigan and coaching certification from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC).

Elaine Taylor-Klaus, MCC, CPCC co-founded the first global coaching organization for parenting neurodiverse kids, ImpactParents.com. The mother of a complex family of five, she co-created a comprehensive and empowering collaborative problem-solving method for fostering independence: the Impact Model for taking a coach-approach to parenting complex kids. An author, speaker, coach and trusted advisor, Taylor-Klaus is the co-creator of Sanity School® for Parents and the Sanity School® Certification Program for professionals. American Academy to Host “Mindfulness and Your Child” Featuring Expert Author and Instructor Piero Falci

American Academy, a program within American Heritage Schools, is pleased to host “Mindfulness and Your Child,” a virtual event via Zoom on Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m. This event is part of American Academy’s monthly program, “Experts in Learning Differences” speaker series. Hosted by Alexandra Rollins, admissions director of the American Academy Program, the expert speaker for the May event is Piero Falci, an author and educator of mindfulness meditation and mindful living.

Mindfulness is a word that means different things to different people. During this event, Falci will explain why it is important to help children practice mindfulness meditation and prepare them to live more mindfully. He equates mindfulness to a sport in which mindfulness meditation is the practice, and mindful living is the game. While practice is important, what one does in practice is of less consequence than their performance during the game. Viewers will truly be inspired by Falci’s wisdom and learn valuable strategies for children to embrace life and become better human beings.

“There is a lot of violence and insanity in the world, and I am convinced that mindfulness is an antidote to that. I am devoted to helping individuals have insights that may expand their selflessness and compassion and lead to the growth of kindness and care for all sentient beings and the natural environment,” said Falci.

Falci is an educator of mindfulness meditation and mindful living and several well-established programs, such as the acclaimed Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program. He received his training from the teachers at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and his MBSR Teacher Certification at the Mindfulness Center at Brown University School of Public Health. He also teaches the Mind-Body Skills Group (MBSG) Program developed by the Center for Mind-Body Medicine, as well as the Mindfulness in Schools Project’s .b (DOT-BE) curriculum for teenagers. He has written several books and offers a variety of mindfulness courses on how to apply mindfulness for the improvement of life.

Yudell, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist.

Finding the “gift within” a child is essential to building confidence and success in school and life. In this episode of “Experts in Learning Differences,” Dr. Yudell will explain how to understand and use educational evaluations to uncover weaknesses and highlight strengths in order to enhance a child’s schooling and benefit his or her academic and social achievements. Throughout his discussion, Dr. Yudell will provide evidence-based, scientifically proven, and effective tools that motivate a child’s entire support system to work together towards improvement and advancement.

“Every individual needs an area in which to shine, particularly those with difficulties in school. Educational evaluations provide a snapshot of a child’s unique abilities in order to reinforce strengths and ensure that self-esteem, motivation, and ambition are not thwarted,” said Dr. Yudell.

Dr. Yudell practices in Broward and southern Palm Beach counties. He specializes in both child and adult pathology and has extensive experience completing psychological evaluations and testing in private and public schools, the Division of Disability, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, and in private practice. Dr. Yudell received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University and holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology from NSU and a master’s degree in counseling from Seton Hall University.

American Academy is pleased to host “Conquering The New SAT For Students With Learning Differences,” a virtual event via Zoom on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. This event is part of American Academy’s monthly program, “Experts in Learning Differences: A Speaker Series.” Hosted by Alexandra Rollins, admissions director of the American Academy Program, the expert speaker for the February event is Sara Kohn, M.S., director of Standardized Test Preparation at American Academy’s Broward and Palm Beach campuses.
Sara Kohn is an expert at motivating students to maximize their potential on standardized tests. She will uncover key strategies for the new SAT, as well as testing accommodations, timelines, and goal score expectations for students with learning differences. Kohn is responsible for writing curricula and implementing test preparation programs for all types of learners in grades 7-12. She has been teaching test preparation courses for 15 years and oversees a team of instructors at American Heritage Schools and the American Academy. Her work has resulted in the #1 and #2 private school ranking in Florida for the highest number of National Merit Scholars. “I truly value the chance to share my knowledge and experience regarding test preparation,” says Kohn. “I know how intimidating this process can be for parents, and I love having the opportunity to help ease some of that stress by helping to lay out a clear path to student success.”

The prestigious American Heritage Schools, voted one of the Best Private Schools in America in 2020 by Niche, is hosting fall virtual open house events that will stream live for its Broward and Palm Beach campuses. Each open house offers parents and students an opportunity to meet with American Heritage Schools’ team, including the admissions directors, teachers, program directors and principals. The Broward campus will host its virtual open houses on Oct. 23 at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. and the Palm Beach campus will host its virtual open houses on Oct. 19 at 9:00 a.m. and Oct. 23 at 10:00 a.m.

The fall virtual open house will start with a brief introduction from school administrators, then will break into smaller groups to tour the campus. Participants will have the opportunity to hear about American Heritage School’s extensive curriculum from the educators. The school’s goal is to introduce guests to the campus, the curriculum, philosophy and culture so they can learn what makes American Heritage Schools the Best College Preparatory School in Florida.

American Heritage School in Broward, Florida, is the No. 1 high school in Florida for the highest number of National Merit Scholars; the school’s Palm Beach campus is No. 2 in National Merit Scholars out of all schools in Florida.
