United Way of Broward County’s Women United, a powerful network of women confronting head-on the most critical issues facing the Broward County community, is hosting its 9th Annual Magnolia Luncheon virtually on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. Col. Nicole Malachowski will participate in a virtual Q&A style discussion with the “who’s who” of Broward County women.

The event that recognizes women of dignity, strength and perseverance will take place from 11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The event’s co-chairs are author Susie Levan and April Lewis-Parks, Consolidated Credit.

All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit United Way of Broward County’s COVID-19 relief campaign to raise funds that will be used for two key areas, food assistance and emergency financial assistance.

Col. Nicole Malachowski, USAF (Ret.) defies stereotypes. She is a leader, a combat veteran, the first woman pilot on the Thunderbirds Air Demonstration Squadron, a White House Fellow, and an inductee into both the National Women’s Hall of Fame and the Women in Aviation International Pioneer Hall of Fame. Nicole’s distinguished 21-year Air Force career exceeded her wildest dreams, but the dream came to an end when a devastating tick- borne illness left her struggling greatly to speak or walk for almost nine months. An indomitable spirit, Nicole fought back against overwhelming odds and prevailed. Drawing on stories from her career and personal life, Nicole inspires audiences to rethink the challenges they face every day. She urges them to go beyond resilience and become resurgent.

For the first time with every ticket purchased you are entered into a drawing for the Secret Armoire featuring luxurious goods, jewelry, getaways and more.

Artist, Melissa Vlahos, began The Unleashed Project after experiencing social nudism. By translating the removal of clothes as a metaphor of being vulnerable and seen without the masks we wear, she developed a therapeutic art process for women to express and embody self-love, self-acceptance and body positivity with self applied body paint. The Unleashed Project will be exhibiting, for the first time, it’s collection of 108 women’s photographs taken during this meditative, somatic process.
Join me and the women from the project in celebrating The Unleashed Project opening reception, in collaboration with (DIS)OBEDIENT:Redefining Feminism in a Fractured Reality.

Through April 1, guests are invited to view the exhibition, “BLACK” by artist Jimmy H. Camille, in Celebration of Black History Month.

About the artist: When most teenagers between adolescence and adulthood were transitioning, Jimmy Camille’s unique expressions of art were his outlet. His life-altering journey into the art world began at the age of seventeen. Born in the sunny city of West Palm Beach, Jimmy Camille is a self-taught artist found at many South Florida college campuses free-styling his works to the public. His thought provoking mixed mediums were the catalyst for his title “The Art Monster.” Jimmy’s vision can be seen in the beautiful intertwining of contemporary, pop, and abstract mediums, a platform that adds lucidity and relevance for his fast growing and captive audience.

South Florida JAZZ at Bailey Hall presents the Latin Grammy Award-Winner and Flute Virtuoso NESTOR TORRES QUINTET, Saturday, February 15 at 8:00 PM. With his unique style, Puerto Rican flutist Nestor Torres will delight his audience on a magical night in which his unique sound will take them on a journey of Nestor’s greatest successes throughout his musical career. From mainstream jazz, R&B to Latin classics, Torres promises to present a musical kaleidoscope that makes each of his presentations variegated. Torres who is a native of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, resides in both Miami and Los Angeles, and mentions that 2020 is loaded with new projects, including the release of a new classical music album, which is being produced by the Uruguayan GRAMMY-winning conductor and composer José Serebrier and Julio Bague, vice president of Peermusic. The release of a single is also approaching, where he had a special alliance with the Dominican reggaetonero Mafio, with whom Torres balances his flute skills. He will also be releasing an album of collaborations with important Latin artists in what he calls an avant-garde production.

According to Dr Ron Weber, South Florida JAZZ president and artistic director, “Nestor has retained his Caribbean roots, while exploring jazz in its many forms with intriguing fusions with other genres. While his early inspirations were Dave Brubeck, Tito Puente and Cal Tjader, his early heroes were the classical flute icons Jean Pierre Rampal and his literal ‘man with the golden flute’ successor, James Galway. Beyond them, his influences include Cuban legend Richard Egües, and jazz greats Herbie Mann and Hubert Laws.”

Bailey Hall is located on the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus at 3501 SW Davie Rd. in Davie and offers free parking. Subscriptions and individual tickets are available by visiting southfloridajazz.org, www.baileyhall.org or contacting the Bailey Hall box office at (954) 201-6884. One of the nation’s most beloved events, with over 100,000 annual attendees and more than two million people having participated over the festival’s tenure, the Florida Renaissance Festival has devoted 28 years to capturing the essence of the Renaissance through entertainment and living history.

Will chaos reign and wickedness rule, or will good fortune and the kindness of man prevail? Are you a Hero or a Villain? No matter your choice of costume, it’s all about two sides of the same coin, and remember that without darkness there can never be light. Let the Warriors of the Light and the Armies of the Darkness meet in this epic weekend of eternal battle.

· Swashbucklers and Sirens – March 7th and 8th
Argh Mateys! All hands on deck and Avast Ye! Dead men tell no tales – the secret is out and the Swashbucklers and Sirens weekend promises to not leave anyone left at sea. Buccaneers will plunder and Sirens will serenade – gather your crew and come search for treasure while exploring unknown lands.

South Florida Jazz at Bailey Hall presents an Evening with Raul Midón and the Lionel Loueke Trio 6/15/19

South Florida Jazz at Bailey Hall presents an Evening with Raul Midón and the Lionel Loueke Trio

Bailey Hall
3501 Davie Road,
Davie, Florida 33314
Website
Cost: 40-50

Saturday June 15 at 8:00 PM: Genre-bending icons and Raul Midón and Lionel Loueke join forces to present a special night of incredible guitar and vocal wizardry. The acclaimed instrumentalists-singers will perform individual sets of original material in an evening that will culminate in an unforgettable jam backed by Loueke’s dynamic trio.

Raul Midón is celebrated as one of music’s most distinctive and searching voices. Heralded as a “one-man band, who turns a guitar into an orchestra and his voice into a chorus,” (NY Times), Midón has collaborated with Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder and even Snoop Dogg. Blind since birth, Midón produced-engineered his first Grammy-nominated album, Bad Ass and Blind, which confronts the challenges of blindness and musical composition. Midón’s 2018 follow-up release, If You Really Want, was nominated for a 2019 Grammy award in this same (Best Vocal Jazz) category.

Lionel Loueke brings his West African (Benin) roots and world music experience to jazz to color his unique phrasing as a guitarist and vocalist. A Herbie Hancock protégé for the past 10 years, Loueke has also recorded and toured with varied instrumentalists and vocalists. Praised by Hancock as “a musical painter,” Loueke combines harmonic complexity, soaring melody, a deep knowledge of African folk forms, and unconventional guitar techniques to create a warm and evocative personal sound. Paul Simon raves that Loueke is “one of a rare handful of guitarists who move effortlessly between his West African roots and modern American Jazz”, and Sting cites Loueke as “one the most original, essential and inspiring musicians on our planet today.”

Also featuring Massimo Biolcati, double bass, and Ferenc Nemeth, drums

Processing Disorders (PD), are not commonly known, but impact 1 in 25 people – that’s a higher rate than many other disorders including Autism. PD occurs when the brain cannot properly use, move or process incoming information.

Although parents may never think that early is bad when it comes to developmental milestones, children who are advanced and speed through the normal development sequence or even worse, skip steps, are often at an even greater risk of having an undetected processing problem. Similarly, a teen who is having trouble making friends, prefers to be alone, is fidgety, clumsy and uncoordinated, and/or has difficulty with change in routines and activities, could have PD. Untreated PD will impact a child and teen’s ability to succeed at school, home, and with socializing.

Want to learn more?

On Thursday, June 6th, you’re invited to attend a special talk with TheraPeeds Family Center CEO and Founder Dr. Julia Harper, PhD, MS, OTR/L, a therapist and neuroplasticity expert for over 20 years. TheraPeeds Family Center uses evidenced-based, intensive treatment and the science of neuroplasticity to change the brains of those with PD at any age and stage of development, from as early as 6 weeks old. In fact, families from around the world are visiting the new Center in Davie, FL to seek treatment. Below please find the details with a formal invitation to follow.

Labañino and Thompson’s exhibits will be on display through Saturday, March 2, 2019 and Cooper’s exhibit will be on display through Saturday, December 29, 2018.

Elizabeth Thompson: “Elizabeth Thompson”
Thompson went to Paris, France in 1976 after graduating college for a Fellowship, where she met her future husband and grew her art. Thompson’s work has always been inspired by “the power of space”- painting beaches, the Paris architecture and Florida landscapes. After inspiration from multiple landscapes, such as the Everglades and her trip to Africa, Thompson began to incorporate “a multitude of local, natural images, illustrating the cyclical relationship between life and death.” Thompson’s art has always centered on the careful observation of nature, poetic isolation and the juxtaposition of handmade work in a machine-made world.

Sally Cooper: “Journey to Abstraction”
Abstract artist Sally Cooper has been painting her entire life, but in the mid-nineties Cooper moved from “detailed representational work” towards the abstract. By 2000, Cooper’s artistic style evolved into explosions of color, markings and movement. Cooper’s surface is “built, destroyed and erased again” with vigorous brush strokes to create a subtle and sensitive history of what has been “until from chaos, a beautiful painting is created.”

Alvaro Labañino – “Echoes of Silence”
Alvaro Labañino, born in Miami, Florida from working-class immigrant parents, was the first in his family to graduate from Miami-Dade college and then continue to obtain his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Florida International University. Miami-based fine artist Labañino creates paintings that function as thresholds to his mind, portraying a world of thoughts, life experiences, dreams, nightmares and fears, materializing in the form of personal objects, domestic spaces and landscapes. Labañino’s paintings are systematically structured, with images segmented into flat contour colors, interacting at various intensities and temperatures to depict his intended disposition. Labañino’s inspiration thrives from the extensive history of art, the School of London, the German Expressionists and his hometown of Miami, Fl.

Students under 25 with ID pay $10. The concert will be preceded at 7:45 by “Ron’s 15,” outlining next season’s offerings.

“Elegant. Powerful. Stylish. Energetic. Mesmerizing. Expressive. Shimmering. Personable. Nicole Henry really is breathtaking, visually, and to the ears.”- Jodi Duckett, The Morning Call

Nicole Henry was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania to a musical family and was immersed in the arts, singing in church and school, while studying cello and ballet. Performance, however, was clearly her destiny. She matriculated at University of Miami and briefly pursued an acting career limited to commercials and voiceovers before acknowledging that she excelled at vocal jazz performance. Since her dazzling 2004 record debut, The Nearness of You, Nicole has established herself as one of the jazz world’s most acclaimed vocalists. However, it was the 2011 release of the acclaimed Embraceable CD that expanded her repertoire beyond standards, as she introduced original compositions and even a touch of gospel. She benefited from an all-star jazz band that included Kirk Whalum, Gerald Clayton, Julian Lage, Gil Goldstein, Larry Grenadier and Eric Harland.

Nicole possesses a potent combination of beauty, onstage charisma, impeccable phrasing, and powerful emotional resonance. Her repertoire includes the American Songbook, classic and contemporary jazz titles, blues, and originals. On this long-awaited date, Nicole will lead her outstanding quintet. On Saturday April 7th, Ferial Youakim, a former refugee, published author, global entrepreneur and image consultant will discuss her newly released book “Beyond Beauty – A Refugee’s Journey in Pursuit of Happiness” and sign complimentary copies for attendees at the Arts Garage, a non-profit visual and performing arts organization located at 94 NE 2nd Ave, Delray Beach, Fl. The memoir is Ferial’s journey of self-discovery and empowerment, from a childhood in a refugee camp to a successful business woman and global figure. Tickets are $30 and include refreshments and a copy of the Ferial newly released book. Tickets are available: http://artsgarage.org/authorevents/

“I can educate you, show you, and tell you that you are beautiful, but you have to believe it, and keep that belief alive in everything that you do. You already are a masterpiece.” –Ferial Youakim

Many born into a refugee camp would forever label themselves as a failure, and deem their lack of adequate education a tragedy that is enormous. Only the extraordinary would overcome these challenges to rise tall, unbreakable and beautiful, destined to inspire the rest of us.

Ferial Youakim is an image consultant with a successful international business. Those who seek out her services do so with the intent that she will “make them beautiful” – indeed, like she is. However, Ferial is adamant that this isn’t at all what she does. She reminds them of their beauty.

Ferial wrote Beyond Beauty to tell the often-tragic details of her own story, of the occasions when she so badly wanted to just give up because the stress felt unbearable.

The problem was that Ferial was working as an image consultant, convincing others of their beauty and unique selves, when she in fact was suffering crippling self esteem issues.

“On the outside, I was a strong woman and a symbol of hope, perseverance and determination, but on the inside, I was broken. It was only when others could see the strength that I did not know I had that I was able to change my focus and to start looking at the opportunities that had presented themselves to me. Because a lot of people looked up to me, being strong was my only choice,” –Ferial Youakim

Ferial still considered herself “lost” when she became a mother to her three children – lost in Lebanon, searching for herself in Australia and eventually finding herself in South Florida, when her husband received a stupendous job opportunity.

However, partly because of her self-diagnosed remaining “thoughts of a refugee.” Ms Youakim regrets some of her behaviour and actions as a mother, and has even written a public apology to her children. However, as one reads Beyond Beauty they too may find her recollections and explanations as overly harsh, when they discover the opportunities and unrelenting love she has actually afforded to her children.

This is the perfect example of the shards of poor self-esteem that remain, even though most of them have been torn down by Ms Youakim so that she may live her life more fully and without reservation.

Ferial recalls a story when she and her siblings were children. Their father, a manual labourer, was always looking to save money whenever possible, on one family trip; her father could not afford the beautiful tiles in a shop. So by prior agreement, Ms Youakim’s father and all of his children were on their hands and knees searching for the various broken shards. They were all her father could afford, and upon gently placing them together, they would be beautiful and perfect in their own right.

“Those tiles were our flying carpet and also the reminder of the love he has for us, All these years later, I now discover that love and beauty are inseparable.” –Ferial Youakim

Seven Fun-Filled Themed Weekends, Variety of Acts & Performances

Here ye! Here ye! All ye Kings and Queens, Knights and Nobles – and the rest of you wenches and barbarians! You are hereby notified by royal proclamation that your attendance is requested at the 26th annual Florida Renaissance Festival taking place from February 10th through March 25th, in the two-thousandth and eighteenth year A.D in the vast open land of Deerfield Beach’s Quiet Waters Park.

The iconic Florida Renaissance Festival will ring in its 26th season, and, for the third year in a row, will offer an extraordinary SEVEN theme-filled weekends as well as a fantastical journey back in time with a variety of fan favorite acts and performances. Upon stepping inside the gates of our village, attendees will be transported back to 16th-century Europe where they will find jesters, jugglers and jousting knights along with music, costumed characters, human powered games, artisan craft shops and enough food & drink for a royal family feast! It’s a full day of fun and entertainment where the entire family can experience the magic of the Renaissance era through an immersive interactive, real audience-participation scenario.

The Florida Renaissance Festival has grown into one of the nation’s most beloved events dedicated to recreating the historical era of the Renaissance, each year adding more entertainment and themed weekends while welcoming a crowd that has swelled over the years to nearly 100,000 annual attendees, and with more than two million people having participated over the course of the Festival’s 26 years.

“Being able to provide this alternate universe where attendees can immerse themselves in the rich history that is the Renaissance is something my team and I take great pride in,” said Bobby Rodriguez, Founder and Producer of the Florida Renaissance Festival. “We are proud to have the continuous support of the county, the city and our community which enables us to grow this event each year, resulting in a culturally enriching festival for people of all ages.”

Rodriguez has continuously raised the bar when it comes to incorporating new experiences into the Festival. Through his forward-thinking, he has set the standard for festivals of this nature to go “beyond Renaissance” by booking a variety of acts ranging from the Orient to Africa, as well as diversified themed weekends. In fact, this year’s Festival will introduce two newly themed weekends!

The Florida Renaissance Festival 2018 themed weekends include:

* Swashbucklers and Sirens – February 10th – 11th
Shiver me timbers! This Pirate-themed opening weekend sees our village overrun with buccaneers and scallywags. Unearth the mysteries of the sea as sirens lure sailors and pirates alike. Anyone not prepared for a “salty” good time will be sent to walk the plank.

* Time Travelers’/Steampunk Weekend – February 17th – 19th
If you like donning a top hat, vest, breeches, and monocle, then board your favorite 18th-century submarine or fantasy-like hot air balloon and zoom for this weekend dedicated to adventurers across the centuries. Bring your brassies Victorian “gears” and join us for “Steampunkin'” good time! Open on President’s Day, Monday February 19th!

* Vikings and Barbarians – February 24th and 25th

Only the strongest and most courageous warriors will brave through this weekend. Norwegian brothers and sisters emerge from the mist on an icy wind, battleaxes in hand, donned in leather and fur during this chilling weekend.

* Bodacious Bodices & Wenches – March 3rd and 4th

Behind every good man is a wench in the trench. Wenches Weekend celebrates the women of the Renaissance with hourglass curves and firey attitudes who can go toe-to-toe with their male counterparts.

* International Weekend – March 10th and 11th
Yet another newly themed weekend! International Weekend celebrates all the exotic cultures that influenced the Renaissance in Europe through exploration and trade. From the Ottoman Empire to the Arabian peninsula, from Africa to the Orient, Polynesia and the New World, this weekend weaves in the impact that other exotic cultures left on this magnificent period.

* Stary Olsa
A medieval Belarusian music band of six who mix early Belarusian instruments sound with all-European mediaeval instruments such as lute, rebec, cister, flute and Arabic drum.

* Thom Bedlam – Pirate close-up magician
Not your average rabbit-puller, this pirate magician will delight with a full spectrum of magic that will keep audiences guessing. A spectacular stage illusion show for the whole family.

Bike Nite

When a motorcycle riding club outgrows allocated parking space, it’s simply a great sign that there’s a better location for the club. Fury Road Riding Club (www.FuryRoadRC.com), the fastest growing motorcycle enthusiast riding club of men and women in South Florida officially announces their new bike nite home at Buffalo Wild Wings, 1219 S. Federal Highway, Deerfield Beach (directly across from Target).

“When you have a loyal following of like-minded individuals, it really made the move smooth and we quickly grew as the word spread about the club and it’s mission,” said Andrew “Dre” Sloan, CEO & Executive Director of Fury Road R.C. “Our new space is very accommodating, plenty of room for growth and the management and service is very helpful to all our riders,” added Sloan.

Fury Road R.C. makes appearances at charity and community events to offer awareness and bring some loud fun to all occasions. Riders wear our signature t-shirts designed by Kala Sloan, Fury Road R.C. Director of Brand Development and Merchandising that are a sign of our mission.

“Every week a featured bike goes under our tent and we ask the rider to share a story about their bike or a ride they took with it and it really creates a nice bond with everyone,” said Adrienne Mazzone, President, TransMedia Group and Fury Road R.C. Director of Media Relations. “We all make sure to greet each rider personally and introduce them to all new riders around so they feel comfortable and look to come back again and again,” added Mazzone.

Some of the rides Fury Road R.C. does brings some thunder to events, share images and help get extra exposure. Our road Captain Michael will plan out rides after bike nite which is our famous tunnel run in Fort Lauderdale or head North up past Mar Largo and the beautiful ride up AIA, as well as many other destinations in which Graciano Drwila, Director of Operations and Sales for Fury Road R.C., will film with his go pro! As riders get to know everyone, they’re added to our group chat where plans are made 7 days a week, rides planned and the Fury Road R.C. family continues to grow.

We invite media to come out and get to know the riders, talk about some rides we’ve done and plans ahead. Special guests will also be available along with some beautiful motorcycles.

For more information about Fury Road Riding Club or how to become a sponsor, visit www.FuryRoadRC.com and follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

South Florida JAZZ, the area’s premier modern jazz organization, is excited to present the Joey DeFrancesco Trio on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 8:00 PM. This concert takes place at the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center on the Nova Southeastern University campus, 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr Blvd, Davie 33314. Tickets are $40 ($10 students with I.D.) and can be purchased from Ticketmaster either online at southfloridajazz.org or by calling 954-462-0222.

Joey DeFrancesco is not only a masterful jazz organist, but also an accomplished trumpeter, and vocalist. He has released more than 30 albums as a leader and also has played or recorded with jazz icons Miles Davis and Jimmy Smith, as well as David Sanborn, Arturo Sandoval, Benny Golson, James Moody, Elvin Jones, John McLaughlin, George Benson, Ray Charles and even Bette Midler.

In addition to his three Grammy nominations, DeFrancesco is a 10-time winner of the Down Beat Critics Poll and has won the Down Beat Readers Poll every year since 2005, plus a number of JazzTimes and Jazz Journalist Association awards. He was an inaugural member of the Hammond Hall of Fame in 2014.

DeFranceso’s emergence in the 1980s marked the renaissance for the B3 organ, which had been largely replaced by more portable keyboard synthesizers.  Joey reignited the flame with the vintage sound of his Hammond, and in so doing, also revived the careers of many other proponents of the “big dawg” of keyboard instruments. Joey, however, is the universally acknowledged “King of the Jazz Organ.”

Shortly after graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, she caught the eye of Wayne Shorter, which was revelatory. Gigs followed with luminaries Herbie Hancock, Al Jarreau, Stan Getz, David Sanborn, Cassandra Wilson and Dianne Reeves. After years of extensive touring, Terri relocated to Los Angeles, where she gained attention as the house drummer for the Arsenio Hall Show; then as the drummer on the Quincy Jones late night TV show, VIBE. Ultimately, she returned home where she received an honorary doctorate from Berklee in 2003 and subsequently was appointed to a professorship in 2006 that she still holds.

More recently, Ms Carrington has pursued a successful career releasing seven albums as a bandleader and producer, including the critically acclaimed The Mosaic Project in 2011 with a myriad of great singers, including Esperanza Spalding, Dianne Reeves, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Cassandra Wilson, which won a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album.

In 2013, Carrington released Money Jungle: Provocative in Blue, her much anticipated homage to jazz giants Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and Max Roach that coincided with the 50th anniversary of the release of their iconic and provocative 1963 Money Jungle trio album. With this recording, Ms. Carrington made history, as she became the first woman to win a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album. It is that Money Jungle project and its historical relevance that Terri Lyne Carrington brings to this South Florida JAZZ concert.

Young masqueraders will be judged based on their creativity, presentation, originality and craftsmanship of their vibrant and colorful masquerade costumes.

“We are looking forward to a safe and successful Junior Carnival this year as we continue to promote and sustain the culture of the Caribbean people,” says Rose Kelly, Bandleader of Heritage TnT, Jr. Carnival band. “The youths are the future of our Carnival, so we hope to bring more awareness of our culture to them.”

The event encourages young Caribbean-Americans to embrace and celebrate their Caribbean culture by participating in an age-old island tradition. Miami Broward Jr. Carnival is also one of the symbols of diversity and inclusion as there are non-Caribbean children of various backgrounds that also participate in the parade and festivities.

“Although we are second and third generation West Indians, this is our culture. Its longevity depends on the positive inclusion of the children. They are the ones who will carry the torch and ensure that our Carnival never dies,” says Giselle d ’Wassi One, Bandleader for Wassi Babes Jr. Carnival.

Calendars Raise Awareness for Here’s Help, A Safe Haven for Newborns and Friends Forever Rescue and the Jackson Memorial Burn Center

South Florida Firefighter hotties will be “Burning Up” for your love and community support at the 2016 edition unveiling of the South Florida Firefighters Calendar presented by One Beat CPR + AED. Ladies drink for free from 9pm to 3am, and Saturday, August 29th, 2015 at Murphy’s Law Irish Pub at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino at 10:00 PM. The Calendar raises awareness for Here’s Help, A Safe Haven for Newborns, Friends Forever Pet Rescue, and University of Miami Jackson Memorial Burn Center.

For the past 24 years, the South Florida Firefighters Calendar has been one of America’s top firefighter calendars. But more importantly, it has raised thousands of dollars for many of South Florida’s charitable causes.

As the calendar continues to grow, there are opportunities which require greater energy and effort. As a result, we are pleased to announce reunification with our presenting sponsor from prior years, One Beat CPR + AED, and a new operational plan effective August 26th, 2015. This new focus will allow the Calendar to achieve greater heights and have a bigger impact on our local communities.

For over 15 years, One Beat CPR + AED has been a strong voice in raising awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest, CPR, and Public defibrillator programs in the tri-county area. They offer emergency resuscitative care certification training and are authorized by the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Safety Health Institute (ASHI).

The South Florida Firefighters Calendar will continue to advocate and raise funds for the charities it’s been affiliated with; however, we are excited to announce we have added CPR and AED awareness to our core initiatives. We’d like to thank our sponsors, participants, fans, and volunteers for your faithful support and commitment over the years and we look forward to sharing the upcoming changes with you

For a woman to allow herself to surrender to being pleased by a man (or a woman), to lay down and spread her legs without concern of what she smells like, if she’ll have an orgasm, if she’s taking too long, if the man is happy or any thought that takes her away from the present moment, is where magic happens.

We’re facilitating a class in Fort Lauderdale in a beautiful, private suite at The Atlantic Hotel & Spa where we’re teaching women how to surrender to receiving pleasure (along with other things) from men, and we’re teaching men how to pay acute attention to and please women.

This is a co-ed class.

The curriculum offers critical support, enabling artists to contribute to strengthening the vitality of the larger urban arts and culture sector. Sessions include a mix of lectures, panels, group discussions and practical exercises.

The Business Plan Clinic’s topics, Working Effectively with Lenders and Developing a Brand, will guide participants through preparation of a simple business plan, an essential tool for any artist. In addition, participants will learn how to work effectively with lenders to obtain financial support.

View the Artist as an Entrepreneur webpage for more information about the course and its history, and read news coverage from past years.

Ever wanted the opportunity to play football in Europe? Well on December 6th, Rise Above Training, former Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Chris Chambers and the 2014 New Yorker Lions bring you the first ever Annual European Football Tryouts and your chance to grab the opportunity you’ve always wanted.

This camp is for men looking for their chance to play football overseas and develop themselves as both individuals and players. EF Tryouts will test players in a combine setting while simultaneously helping them develop their game by teaming up with former NFL Pro Chris Chambers and his staff of quality coaches.

European Football rules allow 2 American passport players also known as import players on the field each play, yet teams can have an unlimited amount of import players on their roster. In order to fill the roster with the best available import players, teams are trying to connect to coaches and former players in the US but have found it to be difficult. With little available knowledge being made about players who are brought in from abroad and being overseas, the ability to be linked to quality players is not always easy. EF Tryouts aim to build the bridge that will connect US players to European coaches because they believe that every player deserves an opportunity to reach their goals and achieve the dream at playing football at the highest level possible.

Testing will consist of Combine Drills, which includes 40 yard dash, 15 yard Shuttle Run, Broad Jump, Vertical Jump and Med Ball Toss, alongside Strength Drills, Individual Drills, 1 on 1’s and 7 on 7’s. Participants will be able to showcase their skills while scouts from The New Yorker Lions, Oldenburg Knights, Falcons Cologne, Galaxy Frankfurt and Helsinki Roosters look for fresh talent to add to their growing teams.

As part of the camp, all sessions during the try out will be filmed and players will be able to send in their tapes to qualify for the “Hotlist” which will be forwarded to all teams in Europe. Those who make the list will be given assistance in actively promoting their skills to all European teams to help them achieve the next step.

Pre-registration at http://www.eftryouts.com is only $50, while walk-ins will be $60.

To participate in the contest, classrooms complete a lesson plan and submit it to the Miami Marlins. This year, 16 classrooms were selected at random as winners of the contest. During Think Tank Week, the entire 25-man roster canvases elementary and middle schools across South Florida.

Marlins Ayudan (Spanish for “help”) is the signature outreach initiative of the Miami Marlins. The purpose of Marlins Ayudan is to provide a sustainable corps of volunteers willing and ready to effectuate positive change in the South Florida community. It is the fabric of the Club’s corporate culture and engages every front office employee with schools and charities throughout South Florida. The goal of Marlins Ayudan is to leave a lasting legacy through impactful service activities that tackle the community’s most pressing needs. The three-tier Ayudan methodology consists of organizational service days, team events and individual volunteer opportunities. Since its inception in 2010, Marlins Ayudan has contributed over 22,000 hours of service and established partnerships and traditions of giving that inspire employees to pursue their passions and contribute their time and talents year-round.

Life is a Song – Yisel Duque in Concert –
September 26th – The Gleason Room Backstage at the Fillmore
Singer-songwriter Yisel Duque’s on-stage performance is an explosion of raw intimacy with personalized rare melodies and rhythmic vestiges of Cuban and Brazilian movements. Yisel’s work is endowed with a rare labyrinth of soothing, intimate, and delicate cadence that grabs you and brings chills up your spine; ironically, at the same time, you’ll feel as though she is whispering her sultry and powerful voice directly into your ear. Yisel’s edgy yet delicate sounds are influenced by the musical worlds of Brazil’s Jobim, England’s Beatles, Cuba’s José Antonio Mendez, the classical music of Yo-Yo Ma, Alternative Rock’s Coldplay, Belgium’s Toots Thielemans, and Jazz great Ella Fitzgerald.

Amy Gross uses everyday materials such as yarn, thread, beads and wire to create objects that mimic the natural world but remain wholly artificial. Her fiber and mixed media sculptures, nicknamed biotopes, reflect on the inevitability of change, attempting to counter inevitable vulnerability by stopping time. Her life forms are imitations of life. They, simply, do not die. Gross earned her BFA at The Cooper Union in New York City and worked as a surface designer, creating textiles, toys, and jewelry before before turning full time to fiber art. She lives and works in South Florida.
