MOAD Projects is pleased to host artist Loni Johnson for an artist residency at Miami Dade College’s Homestead Campus. The artist will use the campus’s gallery as a space in which to create new work, and will host open studio hours on Thursdays, October 17 and 24 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Loni Johnson is a multi-disciplinary visual artist born and raised in Miami, FL. As an artist, educator, mother, and activist, Johnson’s work is rooted in family history and spiritual traditions. For Johnson, there is a cyclical obligation to give back and nurture our communities with her creative gift and it must be utilized to better our world. Through movement and ritual, the artist explores how ancestral and historical memory informs how, when and where we enter and claim spaces. Johnson graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from SUNY at Purchase College School of Art and Design.

MOAD’s programs are made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor, and Board of County Commissioners. They are sponsored in part by the State of Florida through the Division of Arts and Culture and the National Endowment for the Arts, and with generous support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The Miami Herald is a media sponsor of MOAD’s programming.

American Heritage Schools [ahschool.com], the top-ranked PK3 through 12 college preparatory school in Florida, is proud to announce its annual “K-9 Cause: An Evening of Art” auction benefiting the Broward Sheriff’s Foundation’s Retired Canine Relief Fund, on Saturday, April 20.

Everyone loves dogs; however, police dogs, or K-9s, are a special breed. Instead of enjoying the pampered pet lifestyle, K-9s dedicate their entire lives to working daily to protect and serve citizens in our community along with their fearless handlers. They are considered law enforcement officers, whose duties include constant training, apprehending suspects, and searching for explosives, drugs, and missing persons.

When the K-9s retire, their law enforcement handlers graciously adopt them and continue to care for them, as these K-9s have become their friends for life. Recognizing that the medical and healthcare for these K-9s can get quite costly, the Broward Sheriff’s Foundation has established the Retired K-9 Healthcare Fund. This Fund pays for up to 50% of the wellness care costs for all retired K-9s from any local law enforcement agency in Broward County.

Inspired by a little boy’s passion for animals and art, American Heritage Schools is raising money to “fund this fund” by selling artistic renditions of these fine K-9s. Jackson Laurie, a sophomore at American Heritage Schools, and his parents Dr. Douglas Laurie and Nikki Laurie-Van Allen have partnered with the National Art Honor Society and the award-winning Fine Arts faculty at American Heritage to create artwork of these very K-9 being honored.

American Heritage Schools, Broward Campus, will be hosting a Silent Auction for these original works of art, as well as a limited supply of prints for sale at our K-9 Cause event. 100% of all funds raised from this event will benefit the Broward Sheriff Foundation’s Retired K-9 Relief Fund.

MIAMI, Fla. (March 25,2024) – We are excited to announce an extraordinary evening event for PATCHES, a wonderful cause that offers parents peace of mind by caring for children stricken with critical, long-term medical conditions who need care every day of their lives.
PATCHES will host its inaugural Farm to Table Gala on Thursday, May 16th, 2024, at Hacienda Los Robles in the Redlands. The dinner event begins at 6 p.m. and will feature the best of locally sourced gourmet dining, great music, and, of course, fabulous wine and drink! This exceptional evening will also provide a sneak preview of plans to create a new 65,000 sq. ft. PATCHES Village on 5 acres of land in Florida City.
“We are overwhelmed by the tremendous support and generosity shown by everyone involved in the inaugural gala,” said Lucia Soria, Gala Chair. We thank our founding sponsors for their generosity and look forward to changing the trajectory of the lives of these incredible children and their families—bringing them hope for a healthier future.”
Sponsorships are $10,000, $5,000 or $2,500. Founding benefit sponsors include Lennar, FPL, Ram-Tech, and Marlin.
“I am proud to support PATCHES and our first “Farm to Table Gala”, said Larry Roth, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “This event will go a long way towards involving our generous South Dade community and I hope you will join us in making our dream for a new PATCHES Village a reality”.
To join us or support this one-of-a-kind event, please go to Farm to Table Gala , or visit www.patchesvillage.org to learn more about our plans.
But most importantly, with your help, we can make a difference and impact children’s lives in South Dade.
ABOUT PATCHES
Children who qualify for PATCHES Pediatric Nursing Center are usually referred from local hospitals–particularly Nicklaus Children’s Hospital–and may be suffering from medical complexities due to premature birth, terminal illness, recovery from complex surgeries, severe asthma, or other respiratory conditions, life-threatening cardiac issues, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, Down Syndrome, other rare genetic disorders, or birth to mothers with AIDS or drug addictions. 59% of the families with children at PATCHES fall under the federal poverty level. While PATCHES receives Medicaid funds from eligible patients, the facility largely relies on the community’s and donors’ generosity to fully meet its needs. Due to the life-changing therapy, medical care, and educational support, most children who enroll at PATCHES eventually assimilate into the community and local school system with their normal peer group. South Florida Symphony Orchestra Presents an Evening of Dvořák Masterworks Featuring Grammy Winner Zuill Bailey 3/25/23

South Florida Symphony Orchestra Presents an Evening of Dvořák Masterworks Featuring Grammy Winner Zuill Bailey
Saturday, 03/25/2023-, 07:30 pm-09:00 pm
Tennessee Williams Theatre
5901 College Rd,
Key West, Florida, 33040
Website
Cost: $25 – $95

South Florida Symphony Orchestra will present a bold and daring evening of Dvořák Masterworks, featuring his love letter to America, Symphony No. 9 in E minor: “From the New World” as well as Cello Concerto in B minor, the greatest of all cello concertos, performed by Grammy Award-winning artist Zuill Bailey – who also appeared during the Symphony’s inaugural concert 25 years ago. Led by Music Director Sebrina María Alfonso, the concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, at Tennessee Williams Theatre at The College of the Florida Keys in Key West. Tickets are on sale, now.

Maestra Alfonso and Zuill Bailey have known each other since their days at Peabody Conservatory. Over the years, he has become a frequent SFSO guest artist and a favorite among audiences. He is widely considered one of the premier cellists in the world and is an internationally renowned soloist, artistic director, and teacher. His illustrious recording career consists of over 20 titles. His CD, Dvořák Cello Concerto is listed in Penguin’s Guide as one of the Top 1000 Classical Recordings of All Time. He also won a GRAMMY for Best Solo Performance for his live recording of Tales of Hemingway by composer Michael Daugherty. A consummate concerto soloist, Bailey has been featured with symphony orchestras worldwide, including Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, Israel, Cape Town, Russia, Hong Kong, Jordan, Mexico, South America, the United Kingdom, and Austria. He has collaborated with such conductors as Itzhak Perlman, Alan Gilbert, Andrew Litton, Neeme Jarvi, Giancarlo Guerrero, James DePriest, and Jun Markl, to name a few. Classical Net calls Bailey “easily one of the finest cellists alive today,” and states that he “commands a simply lovely tone, passionate and full of vigor,” in a review of his Dvořák Cello Concerto recording.

In 1892, Antonín Dvořák was recruited to be the director for the National Conservatory of Music in New York City, which opened in 1888 to make music education available to talented students from every background, including marginalized communities and fostering the creation of American national music. In his quest to bring the sounds of America into European classical music, his most famous work was born, the four-movement Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, better known as “New World Symphony.” In the lead-up to its 1893 premiere by the New York Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall, Dvořák commented that he thought the core of an American sound could be found in Native American communities and African American spirituals, which you can hear in the composition. Upon its premiere, a reporter for the New York Herald observed that the new symphony was “a noble composition…of heroic proportions.”

Cello Concerto in B minor, the most widely regarded and also the last solo concerto by Antonín Dvořák, will be performed by Zuill Bailey. Written in 1894 for Dvořák’s friend, the cellist Hanuš Wihan, it premiered in London in 1896 by the English cellist Leo Stern. Dvořák wrote the concerto while in New York City for his third term as the director of the National Conservatory. After hearing composer Victor Herbert’s Cello Concerto No. 2 in E minor, Op. 30, Dvořák was inspired to complete a cello concerto of his own. Herbert had been principal cellist in the New York Philharmonic that premiered Dvořák’s “New World Symphony” in 1893.

Tickets for the Dvořák Masterworks program start at $25 for the Tennessee Williams Theatre at The College of the Florida Keys. Tickets may be purchased by visiting southfloridasymphony.org/masterworks-iv-2022-2023 or by calling (954) 522-8445.

Lychee Summer Celebration 6/30/18

Lychee Summer Celebration
Saturday, 06/30/2018 – 02:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Schnebly Redland's Winery
30205 SW 217th Avenue,
Homestead, Florida 33030
Website
Cost: $15 – $20

On June 30, Schnebly Redlands Winery will release the Lychee fruits of their labor in a most entertaining way during their Lychee Summer Celebration (LSC), partnering for the first time with the South Dade Chamber of Commerce and the American Cancer Society. The family friendly event has been a source of pride to the area, with South Florida being the only place in the Continental United States where the Lychee fruit is grown. The celebration will begin at 2pm, when the Farmer’s Market opens with 50 vendors and six food trucks. At the Grand Tiki Culinary Lounge, guests will expand their food knowledge and watch Cooking Demos on how to incorporate lychee, local and organic foods in the kitchen. A family Mud Run, an awards ceremony, and live music will round out the celebration only to culminate with a patriotic fireworks display.

“This year’s Lychee harvest is the largest crop we’ve seen in years, not only did the trees survive Hurricane Irma, but the crop was actually improved by the stress of Irma; it’s a testament to the strength of the South Florida community and its agricultural roots,” says Peter Schnebly, Founder of Schnebly Winery. During the Summer Celebration, the Winery will be offering three Lychee wines, and three limited special release Lychee beers from Miami Brewing Company. Several South Florida restaurants and food trucks will offer their culinary take on the Lychee fruit by way of creative recipes, such as Lychee Seafood Ceviche and Lychee Martini Ice Cream. The possibilities are endless, and Schnebly can’t wait to see their partners get creative with this year’s harvest at the Culinary Grand Tiki Lounge featuring StartUP FIU Food Mentors such as Half Moon Empanadas, Pro Kitchen Hub, My Ceviche, and Lulu’s Ice Cream, to name a few.

While guests enjoy the different variations of Lychee, they can also browse 200+ classic/modern Chevrolet Corvettes, custom cars, Jeeps, 4x4s and other classics throughout the day. The Lychee Summer Celebration Meet Up will be hosted by Corvettes & Coffee and Cecil’s Jeep Fam. Guests can also explore over 40+ artisan and craft vendors in the Artist Colony as they sculpt, sew and sand down hand-made goods. In addition, Live Painting Sessions will showcase some of the area’s best muralists using 40 ft. long shipping containers as their canvas.

At 5pm, the first Schnebly Family Mud Run will kick off, benefitting the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research. Participating runners will be given a glow necklace to display the Cancer they’ll be running for, while conquering an “all new” course compete with obstacles. While the five-kilometer course will honor the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners during an official ceremony before the fireworks, every runner will receive a medal to commemorate their run. All proceeds from the run will go to the American Cancer Society, and anyone who buys a ticket for the run will get free admission to the Lychee Summer Celebration; family members get special pricing on LSC tickets with Runner Registration.

Barry Fellman’s new large format prints from his ongoing, multi-year project, Mangrove Coast, are now on exhibit at Biscayne National Park’s Dante Fascell Visitor Center.  The photos explore the rejuvenation of the shoreline areas hard hit by Hurricane Andrew 25 years ago.  They reveal the unexpected beauty, rhythms and patterns of South Florida’s spectacular mangrove habitats.

Fellman’s photos seduce you, inviting you closer to understand them. As you approach, basic notions of scale and distance remain a mystery until your nose is nearly pressed against the surface. Then the images clarify into familiar forms of sea grasses, shells and shallow tide pools. You realize you are looking at wondrous and fantastic views of the shoreline by the beach.

The images portray the spirit of place by connecting with our own appreciation of the natural environment. Fellman’s aim is to strengthen these connections, which are crucial to preserving the mangrove habitat, the linchpin of our community’s natural landscape.

The mangrove ecosystem provides shoreline protection and serves as the economic base for the recreational and commercial activities that have made our County prosper.  It recycles nutrients and is the breeding and feeding grounds for hundreds of species, nurturing a wide range of marine life, amphibians, birds, and mammals.

Barry Fellman has served as curator of photography at institutions in Miami and New York and is currently director of Miami’s Center for Visual Communication.  His photographs have been exhibited at museums and public venues in South Florida and nationally.  He is a Silver Knight awardee and is the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant.

The exhibition features 27 original watercolor portraits of plants discovered in the Everglades by 19th and 20th century botanists, and designated with common and scientific names that reflect those intrepid plant explorers.
Artist Kathleen Konicek-Moore and Everglades botanist Jimi Sadle co-curated the exhibition, which is supplemented by a documentary film by local videographer Eric Raits. The film deals with early botanists who braved the biting insects, large reptiles, and poisonous plants that made the Everglades one of the country’s last frontiers of botanical exploration.

Included in the show are informational panels about botanical exploration and field collecting, how plants are named, and ways Everglades plants were used by native peoples.

Driving an exotic car on a real racetrack is a far different experience than driving it on the open road. You can accelerate at will, get a complete feel for the car’s engineering capacities and perks, and, of course, drive as fast as the beast allows! There will be zero chances of getting pulled over as you pull off speeds easily exceeding 100 mph! Ladies, this event is for you, too! A fact: Women look even better behind the wheel of an exotic car, adding an unexpected and rare element to driving events–so ladies, this is also your chance to switch gears and do something different and daring! It is an opportunity to surprise yourself and experience an exhilarating dose of adrenaline. If you are already experienced, it is a great way to meet and mingle with fellow female auto aficionados.

Take Advantage Of This 2 Lap X 2.25 Mile Drive Around The Homestead-Miami Speedway!!

Option 1 – Get behind the wheel and drive a exotic sports car of your choice
Option 2 – Ride shotgun with an expert driving instructor

Schnebly Redland’s Winery and Brewery

I recently visited Schnebly Redland’s Winery and Brewery in Homestead, Florida. I was there of course to check out their wines, all of which are made with tropical fruits, like guava, mango, carambola and coconut. And no grapes! But Schnebly’s also recently started brewing craft beers, very interesting ones, also with tropical fruits. I was able to try all of their beers and most of their wines, which I wrote about in more detail on my DailyBeerReview.com site. I will say that the creativity and uniqueness of this family business are off the chart.

President Mauricio Mejia took 30 minutes of his time to speak to us (Ed Roberts arranged that). We talked about what the future holds for the brewery now that they have brewed a few batches of each beer and were ready to start distributing. Mauricio said that they would start with Key West, distributing in kegs first, then would consider bottling and canning. You could tell that the brewery has a careful plan to bring their beers to the market. You could also see the pride that Mauricio, Marketing Manager David, and all of the staff had for their products. They all made us feel and home and very welcome.

I’d certainly recommend taking a trip down to check out their facilities. They have a beautiful tasting room, really nice property, areas for weddings and receptions and parties, just a fabulous space. Schnebly’s is family friendly and they encourage picnics and just relaxing while you visit.

Join us on Obscura Day for an exploration of the extraordinary architecture of the Coral Castle.

Turning a broken heart into a miraculous work of art, Ed Leedskalnin built the marvelous Coral Castle in honor of the woman who left him the day before their wedding. Not only amazing to behold, because of its strange beauty, the Castle includes some pretty serious feats of engineering. Somehow Ed, at 100 lbs and just over 5 feet tallmanaged to wrangle towering chunks of Oolitic Limestone (fossilized coral) over 25 feet tall and weighing over 30 tons into place. When pressed, Ed would only say that he knew the secrets used to build the ancient Egyptian pyramids.

Inspired by its beauty and sad love story, Billy Idol was moved to his hit song, “Sweet Sixteen” about Ed and his lost love.

Join us for a private tour at 2pm.

Tickets are $15 through our website.

Royal Palm Visitor Center
www.nps.gov

Everglades National Park is pleased to invite the community to visit the January Artist in Residence, Eileen Powell, at the Anhinga Trail. Eileen Powell will be on site from 11:00a-3:00p to demonstrate her ceramic sculptures and allow visitors to play with the clay.

Eileen Powell’s current work incorporates ceramics, video, and other media to convey ecological and environmental themes. Specifically her work examines the emotions we feel as our lands, seas, and natural habitats degrade. “By enlightening the viewer to the nonexistent, the absent, the silhouette,or the impression of what was once there,” explains Eileen, “my sculptures provide a faint memory or spirit of the beautiful places, creatures, and experiences forever lost.”

This idea of loss is an integral part of her work. Eileen Powell is seeking to create a visual statement regarding the importance nature has to our quality of life; not only our physical well-being but also our emotional and spiritual health.

Directions: Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center: 40001 SR 9336, Homestead, FL 33034, Visitors coming from the Miami area and northern destinations should take the Florida Turnpike (Route 821) south until it ends merging with U.S.1 at Florida City. Moonfaire South Florida’s Spiritual Comunity Cooperative Festival 12/10-11/11

Moonfaire South Florida’s Spiritual Comunity Cooperative Festival
December 10th -11th, Sat 2-10pm Sun Noon-6pm
The Coral Castle
28655 South Dixie Highway
Homestead,fl 33033
Website.

Hear ye! Hear ye, Moonfaire is coming! What is it you ask? Well it is a two day community event at The Coral Castle in Homestead, fl. hosted by The Witch’s Garden since December of 2006. Who is The Witch’s Garden, well they are a local mom and pop pagan business owned by Marizel & Armando Almirall that started off at the castle on May of 2004 and now own a brick and mortar shop in Hialeah. Now about Moonfaire, we started this because we realized throughout the years that local spiritual artists and mystical businesses didn’t really have an event spotlighting them and their talents so we created this as a place where you can setup an inexpensive booth and get your name out there while getting to know the community. We also realized that among the various spiritualities there has always been too much separation because of what you practice, how many years of experience you have, credentials, and group associations. It always seemed to us that the community needed a place where all can come as one and celebrate earth, life and spirituality.

In these events the community gets involved and workshops take place throughout the day on various metaphysical topics hosted by individuals and groups alike. We also create a beautiful village where you can find lightworkers, psychics, massage therapists and local artistry as well as vendors featuring occult supplies, Indian clothing, natural bath and body products, handcrafted jewelry and more. The Moonfaire is definitely something to experience and even though we don’t host a public ritual we are however having a main drumcircle at 9pm under the beautiful December full “Cold Moon” which is a very sacred way to connect to one another, the energies of the castle and the elements surrounding us. The vision of the event is for it to continue to flourish and the only way this will succeed is with you.

What can you contribute you ask, well get involved. We need volunteers to help throughout the event, groups and community leaders to host workshops, happy faces passing out flyers and most of all help in getting the word out. We can also always use sponsors, vendors and donations since this is what pays for the production itself. Honestly anything anyone can contribute even if it is giving a flyer to a friend makes a difference we just want as many people as possible involved so we can create a community that brings forth all races, religions, age groups, denominations and so forth to drum, dance tour the castle and enjoy a day of family, spirituality and being all as one.

42BELOW Vodka and Bacardi Team Up and Raise Big for 150 Mile MS Bike Ride 5/14-15/11

May 14, 2011 at 7:00 a.m. – May 15, 2011
Homestead-Miami Speedway
1 Speedway Boulevard
Homestead, FL 33035-1500

42BELOW Vodka (42below.com) and Bacardi to team up to spin out Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for the third-year running in the 25th Anniversary of the Zimmerman MS Bike Ride. The 150-mile ride to fight MS is Florida’s largest charity bike tour and, together with eight-year partner, Bacardi, are looking to set a new standard in corporate social responsibility. To date, the Bacardi cyclists are leading the way in terms of participants, 290+ riders strong, as well as fundraising with $107,000 raised. When the two day trek concludes, Bacardi hopes to reach their goal of $140,000 toward research, programs and services to support the 6,000 South Floridians affected by multiple sclerosis.

Eight-year MS race veteran Claudette Halluk, Bacardi’s Director of Business Development, has worked hard to garner interest and participation from Bacardi employees and others in the community is excited about her teams efforts, “I’m so proud of Bacardi, 42BELOW, and the individual efforts of my teammates that make this a successful event every year,” said Claudette. “Because we can fight this disease by simply riding a bike and because we have chosen to help thousands of people through a contribution to the MS Bike Tour, every year we come one step closer to ending MS,” she added.

The MS Bike Ride is Florida’s premier and most exciting charity cycling event featuring an estimated 2,500 cyclists will make the two-day, 150-mile journey from the Maroone Start/Finish Village at Homestead-Miami Speedway to the 42BELOW Village in Key Largo and back as part of the Zimmerman MS Bike Ride Presented by Mack Cycle and Fitness featuring the $25,000 Challenge.

Once all riders arrive at the park, they will celebrate in true 42BELOW fashion with tasty cocktails, great food, and entertainment. Riders can either camp for free at the park or make hotel accommodations. After a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, the riders will return back to the Speedway on May 15th for the finale where dedicated volunteers will cheer them across the finish line and present them with a medal. Rest stops will be available every 4 – 9 miles with food, drinks, first aid, bike repair, fun themes and more.

MIAMI’S HIDDEN ARTISTIC TALENT SHINES ON PURPLE SUNDAYS
Purple Sunday is a creative arts exchange festival held to showcase Miami’s hot, upcoming artistic talent, to be held in the beautiful Redlands Koi Gardens in Homestead, Florida on March 13th, 2011. “Purple Sunday is about providing opportunity and showing people what the real Miami has to offer,” says organizer and founder Alicia Hugh. “People can come see great art work, unique lifestyle goods, and live music, but more importantly, they can meet the creators, find out what inspires them, and allow themselves to become a part of the story,” revels Ms. Hugh.

Purple Sunday artists and designers have been featured in print publications such as the New Times and Miami Herald, as well as online publications such as www.thrillist.com, and have been present at local art events like The Wynnwood Market. “We want Purple Sunday to become a name synonymous with great local art and design, where artists and vendors, whether advancing or well-noted, can come to exchange creative ideas, network, and showcase their work,” adds co-founder Rachel Hugh.

Purple Sunday was birthed in April 2009, when sisters Alicia and Rachel Hugh, with a handful of friends, realized their creative work had no platform or outlet to show the public. The first event took place in a neighbourhood backyard, with only a handful of vendors and approximately 80 attending. The first event generated so much attention and demand that Ms. Hugh organized the second just months after, in July 2009, and changed the venue to the Redland Koi Gardens to accommodate more guests. Ten vendors were booked and 250 people attended. This year they are approximating to have 20 vendors and at least 400 people attend.

Hanging Out in Biscayne National Park to Open at Biscayne National Park Gallery

Miami photographic artist Brian Trainor’s solo exhibition Hanging Out in Biscayne National Park opens at Biscayne National Park’s Dante Fascell Visitor Center Gallery on Friday, November 20 with a “meet the artist” wine-and-cheese reception from 6-9 pm. The evening features an opportunity to speak with the artist, hear about his work and bid in a silent auction for an original photograph. The show itself runs through February 15, 2010. Both the show and the reception are free and open to the public. The Dante Fascell Visitor Center is located at 9700 SW 328 Street, 9 miles east of Homestead, Florida.

A former Active Duty photographer in the US Navy, Trainor has spent nearly 30 years developing his skills as a photographer, and this show is nearly two years in the making. Although he shoots with a digital camera, Trainor never manipulates his photos after they are taken. Rather, he plays with focus and exposure to create a unique perspective. He will often nondestructively manipulate the scene to add interest to otherwise mundane objects. Where more traditional photographers might focus on the sun in a sunrise photo, Trainor’s lens is pointing down at the water, camera askew at an odd angle. Mangrove trees against a bright blue sky are photographed through a watery medium for a fish’s view. Even debris washed in along the park’s shoreline becomes beautiful in Trainor’s photos.

“Brian’s photographs offer a very different perspective on the park compared to our previous artists,” said Park Ranger Gary Bremen. “Where many photographers capture the park’s stunning landscapes and wildlife, Brian focuses on small details from unique perspectives. His work definitely engages people in intriguing and often delightful ways.”

All works in the show are available for purchase directly from the artist, and Trainor has donated one photograph to the South Florida National Parks Trust to be sold to the highest bidder in a silent auction at the opening reception on November 20. “Instead of choosing one photo that would appeal to many people, I decided to let the highest bidder choose their favorite and I’ll custom-print it for them,” said Trainor.

Hanging Out in Biscayne National Park is part of the park’s Community Artists program, started in 1997 as an outlet for the works of both established and emerging artists who are inspired by the beauty of Biscayne National Park. The program is made possible by the South Florida National Parks Trust through the generosity of Miami-Dade County’s Cultural Affairs Division, The First National Bank of South Florida and Sedano’s Supermarkets.

For further information on the exhibit, call 305-230-7275, or visit the park’s website at www.nps.gov/bisc or Brian Trainor’s website at www.BrianTrainorPhotography.com. To receive regular updates about Biscayne National Park, follow us on Twitter: www.twitter.com/BiscayneNPS.

Annette Recommends El Toro Taco Restaurant

This place is so cute and has really good food, prices are very reasonable and the portions are good, and it’s BYOB. I ordered the pinata plate; it came with two quesadilla’s (your choice, I had the spinach and mushrooms), nachos and a cheese sauce. The cheese sauce was amazing, it made the plate, now don’t get me wrong the quesadilla’s and nacho’s where great too. The service is a little slow, so when you go don’t be in a hurry, just go and have a great time and great food. On the weekends I hear they have a mariachis, so I will have to go back, oh darn.
