Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® (MSABC) presented by Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino – Hollywood is holding their Making Strides Walk on October 23, 2021, at Huizenga Plaza in Ft. Lauderdale. Making Strides has united communities, companies, and individuals across the country in the fight to end breast cancer for more than two decades. Michele Alter, a 21-year breast cancer survivor and Brittany Zinn, both with the Craig Zinn Automotive Group, are this year’ co-chairs. The two are determined to make this a successful fundraiser. Organizers want everyone to know that even if a person cannot attend in person, the success of this event will depend on enthusiastic individuals who commit to raise funds, in addition to generous donors who will support those participants. The in-person event will keep federal, state, and local health guidelines in mind. As the fall season approaches, event-based decisions may be made to best meet the health and safety needs of everyone involved.

In 2020, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Broward conducted a drive-thru with 174 teams. The event benefited from the support of more than 1,000 participants, local businesses, and organizations, representing various industries. It ranked #1 in the State of Florida with a fundraising revenue of $429,000, and 7th overall of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events in the US. The money raised went to breast cancer research and programs geared towards both men and women. According to the American Cancer Society journal, a Cancer Journal for Clinicians, there will be an estimated 1.9 million new cancer cases diagnosed in 2021 and 608,570 cancer deaths in the United States. That number may be higher given the COVID spike. It’s believed that people with active cancer may be more susceptible to COVID-19, because of their impaired immune system. That’s why the American Cancer Society® Fort Lauderdale wants people to start fundraising between now and October. People can fuel the fight against breast cancer by downloading the American Cancer Society FUNdraising App to their phones. This will allow people to register for the October event and begin asking

To register, go to www.MakingStridesWalk.org/BrowardFL to join the walk by signing up as an individual or team. Be sure to download the app to your phone and link the dashboard to Facebook. Fun Fact: Those that connect their fundraiser to FB, raise seven times more money.

It’s America’s big day and we’re here for it. It’s time to take a break from the grill this year and join Wynwood’s favorite bar and restaurant, Le Chick. Known for its true world-class burger experience and cozy bar vibe, Le Chick is the perfect place to celebrate this special holiday. Fourth of July calls for casual, crowd-pleasing dishes, and nothing says summer like a good ol’ burger, especially an award-winning one. The menu at Le Chick is all about elevated comfort food, so of course, their burgers hit the spot. While beef patties and American cheese are a classic combination, Le Chick’s homemade rolls, and special sauce sure make this burger an extravagant, and must-try staple item from their menu. In celebration of the Fourth of July, guests can enjoy a sinful, juicy burger such as their fan-favorite Royale with Cheese or the Double Dirty, with Dry-aged Brisket 3oz double patties, bacon, cheddar, fried egg, tomato, lettuce, house pickles, secret sauce. Wash it all down with Le Chick’s hand-crafted cocktails or beer selection to top off your meal.

About Timbalive:

Timbalive is one of the largest and most successful groups of Timba in the United States and the world. The unique band sound, sophisticated production techniques, and a spectacular live show are second to none in the Latin Music scene. The band was created and burst onto South Florida’s music scene in August 2008, by Leo Garcia (timbales & director), offering the best of Cuban music with a mix of different rhythms from around the world. All the band’s members are highly trained musicians from the most prestigious music schools in Cuba and come from well-known groups from the Island.

Their first album, “From Miami a la Habana ” created one of the most unexpected successes in the Latin Music History in the United States. Through their vast discography, Cuban & Latin music hierarchy have shared studio sessions and stages with them. Such music giants names include: Amaury Gutierrez , Willy Chirino , Albita Rodriguez, Issac Delgado, Manolin (El Médico de la Salsa), Grupo Afrocuba, Carlos Manuel, Luis Enrique, Rey Ruiz, Marc Anthony, Celia Cruz, Pablo FG, Clave y Guaguanco, Oscar de Leon, Descemer Bueno, Mayito Rivera, Los 4, Pedrito Calvo, Roberton “Van Van” and Maykel Fonts among many others.

Timbalive has toured Europe, Mexico, Canada, South America, and multiple States in the US, making this band a reference for dancers and Timba lovers in several continents. Songs from their first album such as “El Dinero”, “Ave Maria Que – Calor”, and Como Miami No Hay Na” are still played by DJs in radio stations and night clubs worldwide, fulfilling Leo’s vision of having an international Timba band based in Miami.Twelve years later and five albums, this high-octane ten-member group kept enjoying great success among the Salsa circuit across Europe, South America, Cuba, and the U.S.

About Nic & N’Taya:

Nic & N’Taya is one of only a few bands that have managed successfully to produce a creative body of work in the extremely difficult Cuban Music environment of South Florida. Their last two critically acclaimed albums “#EstoEsUnMisil” y “Tu No Querias Changüí? Coje Changüí !” has been a testament that Timba y Changüí is alive and thriving in Miami.
Changüí is a style of Cuban music that originated in the early 19th century in the eastern region of Guantánamo Province, specifically Baracoa. It arose in the sugar cane refineries and in the rural communities populated by slaves. Changüí combines the structure and elements of Spain’s canción and the Spanish guitar with African rhythms and percussion instruments of Bantu origin. Changüí is considered a predecessor of son montuno (the ancestor of modern salsa), which has enjoyed tremendous popularity in Cuba throughout the 20th century. Timba is a Cuban genre of music based on popular Cuban music along with salsa, American funk/R&B, and the strong influence of Afro-Cuban folkloric music.

Timba rhythm sections differ from their salsa counterparts because timba emphasizes the bass drum, which is not used in salsa bands.
Here’s a sparkling high-voltage band lead by singer Nick “N’Taya ” Martinez who seems to have successfully channeled the spirit and drive of the Timba & Changüí genres to a new generation of Salsa dancers. N’Taya has created a thoroughly enjoyable sound that is perfectly suited for the dance club or your next Cuban or Latin party. Many Miami bands in the past have gotten our hopes up, only to break up. Hopefully, this one will stick around for a while. Stay tuned!

Make Music Miami, the annual celebration of music on the summer solstice, returns this year on Monday, June 21 with dozens of free, virtual and in-person outdoor concerts, music lessons, jam sessions and other exciting music-making events, spotlighting music’s power to connect, comfort, unite and uplift. Miami is among the 90+ U.S. cities hosting major celebrations, in what has become a worldwide phenomenon observed by hundreds of millions of people in over 1,000+ cities in 120 countries. Safety protocols will be in place following local requirements, including mask-wearing, social distancing and limited capacities and group sizes.
Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Miami celebrates and promotes the natural music maker in all of us, regardless of ability. Reimagining their cities and towns as stages, every kind of musician – from bucket drummers and opera singers to hip-hop artists and marching bands – pours onto streets, parks, plazas, porches, rooftops, gardens, beaches and other public spaces to celebrate, create and share their music with friends, neighbors and strangers. Due to the pandemic, last year’s celebration was largely virtual, but many in-person events will return in 2021.

For more detailed information, visit makemusicmiami.org. Finalized programming will be posted here the week of the event.

The Betsy Hotel Announces Events to Honor
Juneteenth 2021
South Beach Arts and Culture Hotel honors African American Emancipation and Excellence
in two events presented with the Miami Chamber of Commerce
and Florida International University

Arts Celebration LIVE Event on June 19
From 6 PM to 11 PM, it’s LIVE JAZZ in the Lobby of The Betsy Hotel.
From 9 PM to 9:30 PM, it’s LIVE POETRY and MUSIC at The Betsy Poetry Rail,

Community Panel/Conversation (Zen and the Art of … Juneteenth) Via ZOOM
The program features community leaders discussing the history and meaning of Juneteenth.

MIAMI BEACH, FLA.—June 1, 2021—The Betsy-South Beach Hotel (The Betsy) announces two events to honor Juneteenth 2021. Both events are presented in partnership with the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce and Florida International University Miami Beach Urban Studios. No tickets are required and the programs are free and open to the public.

Juneteenth — a combination of “June” and “nineteenth” – recognizes the date that formerly enslaved African Americans were informed that they were finally free. Though African Americans have long celebrated Juneteenth, the National Museum of African American History and Culture notes ‘this monumental event remains largely unknown to most Americans.”
Juneteenth celebrations remind us that freedom and racial equality have always been and continue to be a hard-fought battle for African Americans. Community Juneteenth celebrations will inspire honest conversation about societal inequities that continue to threaten and devalue the lives of African Americans and also provide a forum to celebrate African American excellence.
