CHECK OUT ALL DATES AND TIMES BELOW:

December 1 – December 30, 2019

Sober Collective Art Gallery // 80 NE 29th Street, Wynwood

During Miami Art Week from Dec 1-8, the exhibit will be open to guests from 10 a.m.-12 a.m.

From December 9-30, it will be open from 12 p.m.-10 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. Wednesday-Sundays.

Our Grand Opening exhibition at Sober Collective Art Gallery will be on December 8, from 7 p.m. – 12 a.m.

Known as “The Dutch Master of Light,” Tim Boin curated this selection of 8 of the best Dutch street artists in cross-combination with his own solo exhibition ‘Geometry is Life’ at the W South Beach during Miami Art Week. His group of artists all excel in bold, abstract and unconventional large-scale work found internationally and celebrated globally.

About the Artists:
Tim Boin Art: Conscious elements are at the root of Tim’s message. Celebrated for his larger-than-life sculptures, he depicts the ecosystem’s sensitive state. Using 3D Mapping, Tim literally and figuratively sheds light on his geometric sculptures of endangered species in his most recent work.
digitaldoes: He focuses on collecting pieces from past walls and reshaping them into a new form to use as core elements in his new pieces. He perpetuates the past and makes new work traceable to a specific google coordinate of a bygone wall. From China to Mexico and Australia to New York, his work has been found all across the globe.
Saïd Kinos: His work expresses a fascination for the way people communicate with each other. It’s recognizable by his high-contrast use of distorted typography. His visual overkill is a metaphor for the amount of information we have to process on a daily basis.
TELMO MIEL: This creative duo evolved from creating individual pieces on one mural into developing one image, one composition together. They focus on playfulness in abstraction of reality; attempting to make the viewer see opposite perspectives and subjects with a different eye.
Joram Roukes: Using juxtapositions of imagery, he creates abstract narratives and figures that evoke introspection and contemplation. His work gained attention from several international galleries, and he actively paints large-scale murals across the globe, including Copenhagen, Paris, Berlin, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and London, to name a few.
Bier en Brood: Inspired by machines, nature and architecture, they possess a unique style, often interpreted as sinister and apocalyptic. Their preferred mediums include highly detailed pen drawings, spray-cans and paint for their large-scale work.
Mossy Giant: He has a slightly neurotic fascination with detailed line-work and stories within stories. Not made for the easily distracted, recurring themes in this work include nature, man, beast & machine.
Zevous: His company, Dutch Deco Finish, specializes in wall and furniture finishes for amusement parks and large festivals, which has led to over a decade of developing relationships with artists worldwide; and after these artists began approaching him to commission exclusive works of art, it has inspired him to create his own extensive portfolio.

Dutch DJ Damoulis is setting sound waves to this visual playground, mastering in Miami-favorite sounds like Afrobeats, AfroHouse, Latin and Dutch urban music and dancehall.

This holiday season, he is returning to his hometown to personally celebrate and release his new track, “Feliz Navidad.” with The Cris Cab Christmas Experience performances on November 27th at Bodega in Miami Beach.

Cris Cab, the wildly popular singer, songwriter and instrumentalist has taken on the challenge to fuse his native Miami style with the winter-time staple song of the season, “Feliz Navidad.” Cab’s Reggae and Latin sound enhances the original 1970’s hit, originally recorded by Puerto Rican icon, Jose Feliciano. Feliciano himself instantly gave his blessing after listening to the song firsthand, the single will be released on Friday, November 29 via Spotify. At the same time, the Prince of Miami is set to embark on a series of performances and events bringing “The Cris Cab Christmas Experience” to life in Miami introducing the track directly to his fans, the only approved version of the classic in its almost 50-year history.

Cab hails from Miami, Florida and has characterized his career by embracing his family’s Latin roots and creating a unique blend of sounds that could only come from growing up in one of the most multicultural cities in the nation. As an artist, he has combined reggae, Latin, pop, and soulful instrumentals throughout his discography. In addition to his unique sound, Cab’s live performance is an experience like no other, showcasing his six-piece band encompassed by world-class musicians.

Growing up, Cris Cab, identified his passion for music at an early age. At the age of 15, Cab became the protégé of one of the most influential figures in pop culture, Pharrell Willams. Since that life-changing moment, he has had the privilege of working and collaborating with award-winning artists such as Marc Anthony, J.Balvin, Big Sean, Mike Posner, Wyclef, B.o.B, and Farruko. He’s also had the chance to share the stage nationwide with Ariana Grande, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea, Lorde, and others. With his diverse recordings, Cab has become the new face of fusion, interpolating Latin, reggae and hip-hop styles to represent the true soul of Miami.

Cab has accomplished many of his childhood dreams, in an increasingly competitive and diverse field of young artists.

Future My Love (2013), 97 minutes, Directed by Maja Borg
Future My Love is a unique love story challenging our collective and personal utopias in search of freedom. At the brink of losing the idealistic love of her life, filmmaker Maja Borg takes us on a poetic road trip through the financial collapse, exploring a radically different economic and social model proposed by 95-year-old futurist Jacque Fresco. How much freedom are we prepared to give to the ones we love? And how much responsibility are we ready to take for our society? Carefully weaving a texture of archival footage, black-and-white Super 8 film, and color HD, Borg poignantly depicts the universal struggle between our heads and hearts in times of big change.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and nothing sets the Holiday Season into full swing more than the lighting of Downtown Miami’s Christmas Tree. The iconic 50-foot tree that sits in the middle of Bayfront Park will serve as the center and focal point of the Bayskate roller-skating rink at Bayfront Holiday Village. On Saturday November 30, it will receive a celebrity filled countdown and illumination worthy of a million twinkling lights. South Florida celebrities and dignitaries will be on-hand to light the tree and set the LED animation into musical motion, including Mayor Francis Suarez of the City of Miami and Commissioner Joe Carollo, Chairman of the Bayfront Park Trust. The tree will trip the light fantastic to three different festive musical shows produced by Grammy winner, A.T. Molina, who is the original producer/creator of the Burrito Sabanero mix. Enrique Santos from Tu949 will join Sasha Jones, Consumer Investigative Reporter for NBC 6 and Alejandra Molina, News Anchor at Telemundo 51, to host the event, along with Santa Claus, who is scheduled to arrive in Miami fashion via a yacht. Together, they will make sure that this tree will continue to serve as Santa’s guiding light to Miami.

“This is a special tree, because after the initial lighting ceremony, we will have mini lighting ceremonies every night all the way through Christmas. Not just every night, but every hour,” says Tony Albelo, SWARM CEO and event organizer. Each night starting at 6PM, the park will become quiet, the music will rev up, and the tree will display one of the most beautifully animated light shows ever sequenced. Those who miss the initial tree-lighting ceremony on November 30, will have an opportunity to experience it again and again while enjoying hot cocoa and churros or sipping seasonal cocktails such as the Peppermint Mojito, Mistletoe Mule, White Christmas Margarita or Winter Bourbon Smash at the North Pole Beach Club.

The lighting of the 50-ft animated tree at Bayfront Holiday Village will mark the opening of this picture-perfect, outdoor, holiday venue filled with larger-than-life holiday displays, waterfront roller-skating, local vendors, nightly music and top food and drink offerings. Whether you’re chilling at the North Pole Beach Club, partaking in the Gnauhty Gnome Scavenger Hunt, or taking a selfie with Santa, there’s something for everyone!

Museum of Art and Design at MDC presents Black Power Naps/Siestas Negras, an immersive, multi-sensory installation offering rest as a form of reparations. Created by artists Navild Acosta and Fannie Sosa, the installation invites visitors to lounge on a variety of embellished beds, replete with gauzy canopies, serene lighting, therapeutic sound vibrations, and other restorative props. On Thursday, December 5, artists Navild Acosta and Fannie Sosa will activate the installation with a Platonic Play Party Workshop, a playful event incorporating movement, sound, and discussion.
Black Power Naps/Siestas Negras is part of Where the Oceans Meet, an exhibition of modern and contemporary art that resonates with the pioneering thought of two Caribbean writers, Lydia Cabrera and Édouard Glissant. The international group of 40 artists and collectives in the exhibition considers notions of shifting and porous borders—geographic, national, cultural, social, racial, ethnic, and linguistic—and how crossing borders has shaped our world. Where the Oceans Meet and Black Power Naps/Siestas Negras will be on view through January 12, 2020.
Free parking for this event is available at the MDC parking garage, located at 500 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33132.

Miami, Florida 33130

This creative Miami Art Mob Team is ready to Mob your senses with Art, Music, Drinks and much more in the very ❤️ of Downtown Miami at the Historic Macy’s Building – on the Second Floor Gallery. Sixteen artists will display their Miami Marine Stadium seats artworks at the Miami Art Mob Exhibition at the Historic Macy’s Building in Downtown Miami during Art Basel. Our artists will also exhibit their incredible artwork.

The Marine Stadium seat artwork project is sponsored by the City of Miami.

The seats are a part of a larger effort to continue to build support for the restoration of the Miami Marine Stadium. In 2017, original seats of the Marine Stadium were given to artists to allow the artists to create new works of art. Artists were told that they could do anything with the seat-keep it as is, take it apart, incorporate it into other art-just create a new piece of art that is inspired by the Marine Stadium. To date, over 60 artists have completed work on the project. Much attention to the “If Seats Could Talk” project has been given by the Press during our four-month long museim exhibition in Miami Beach.

All of the seats can be seen at: www.restoremarinestadium.org All of the Marine Stadium seat artworks will be available for purchase during our 2019 Art Basel exhibition. Angela Shlyakhov of Anzhelika Productions will curate our exhibit, as she had done numerous times before. The exhibit will also feature special photographs of the Marine Stadium by photographer Pedro Suarez.

Originally built for boat racing in 1963, the Miami Marine Stadium-located on Virginia Key on the way to Key Biscayne-is considered an icon in Miami. The Stadium’s folded plate roof was at one time the longest piece of cantilevered in the world. The Stadium is on the Federal Register of Historic Places and has been recognized as a national treasure by the National Trust ForHistoric Preservation. During its years of operation through 1992, the Stadium featured boat races, special events, and concerts by performers such as The Who, Jimmy Buffett. Elvis Presley even filmed a movie there. Closed since 1992, the City of Miami is now developing plans for its restoration. Many of

Over 30 artists will be featured at the Miami Art Mob 2019 Art Basel exhibition. Most of the artists are very well known local artists. This is a last chance to see the Historic Downtown Miami Macy’s building empty before tenants move in.

To purchase Miami Marine Stadium seat artworks, contact Angela Shlyakhov at 305-915-2788.

As an artist who continually explores new creative outlets, CODE elevates Dubfire to yet another rung within electronic music as he plays open to close, back to back sets with DJ’s and live artists from across the underground dance music spectrum, exploring new and exciting synergies of musical expression and performance. Each night is set in a unique venue and takes the crowd on a magical ride, bringing back together again Dubfire’s eclectic musical roots. Expect the journey to start deep and leftfield, through to techno over the course of a night.

Having secured a solid reputation for marathon sessions (most recently a record-breaking 26.5 hours at Romania’s annual Sunwaves festival) as well as back to back sets with a host of like-minded artists, including Richie Hawtin, Chris Liebing, Nicole Moudaber, Paco Osuna, Art Department and Seth Troxler to name but a few, CODE aims to push things further still, fostering an environment where quality music from the full range of dance music – via Dubfire’s favorite artists – is framed by cutting edge, immersive production and more.

CODE was launched at Art Basel in 2018 at Coyo Taco, in the heart of Miami’s arts district, Wynwood, making you walk through an actual Taco restaurant and into a back room filled with one of the best sound systems in the city. Dubfire was joined by unannounced guests in this 200 capacity room that included Martinez Brothers, Guy Gerber, Guti, Radio Slave and Tiny.

Known as “The Dutch Master of Light,” Boin’s art is focused on light, geometry, and spirituality. His latest collection, Geometry is Life, is specifically designed as a futuristic, visual sensory experience to capture realism in the subject using geometric designs. Enhanced by natural reflection as well as artificial 3D projection mapping, the collection is showcased in three separate categories, capturing the following elements: Natural Light, Enhanced Light and Artificial Light. More importantly, each artwork captures the balance between geometry, light and the spirit of the subject as if it were to come alive. ‘Geometry is Life’ is a visualization of the connection between geometry and the visual language that arises.

The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is presenting Afro-Peruvian producer, composer, arranger, educator and pianist Kiki Sanchez as part of its monthly “Jazz at MOCA” series on Friday, Nov. 29. Sanchez is among the new generation of young Afro-Peruvian Jazz musicians that are emerging on the national Jazz scene.

Sanchez blends smooth Latin Jazz with a perfect balance of tropical Afro-Peruvian rhythm and jazz harmonies for a high energy performance. Born in Lima, Peru, Sanchez began playing piano at age 11 and later moved to Miami, FL, where he continued studying piano and cultivating a deep love for American Jazz music. Sanchez holds a master’s degree in Classical Composition from Florida Atlantic University.

Sanchez has had the opportunity to play with Jazz legends such as Jim Gasior, Cachao, Mike Gerber, Arturo Sandoval and more. Sanchez has collaborated on GRAMMY-nominated albums including Best Instrumental Album, “Blown Away” with Frankie Marcos and Arturo Sandoval and Best Traditional Tropical Album, “La Onda Latina” with Frankie Marcos and Clouds. He also worked closely with well-known, GRAMMY award-winning producer, Glen Kolotin on numerous projects.

Sanchez has released two Latin Jazz albums, “Dreams” in 2007 and “Two Worlds” in 2011 featuring GRAMMY award-winner Susana Baca. As an educator, he has released an instructional DVD titled the “The Real Latin Piano and Intro to Afro-Peruvian Rhythms, Vol.1.”

The public is invited to enjoy the vibrant sounds of Kiki Sanchez, rain or shine. To kick off Miami Art Week, guests may also walk through MOCA’s two exhibitions, Cecilia Vicuña’s “About to Happen” and Alice Rahon’s “Poetic Invocations.” Cecilia Vicuña’s “About to Happen” traces the Chilean artist’s career-long commitment to exploring discarded and displaced materials, peoples and landscapes in a time of global climate change. French-Mexican surrealist painter Alice Rahon’s “Poetic Invocations” aims to contribute to the scholarship and recognition of under-explored women artists, and to the intercultural influences on European artists in exile in the Americas, whose work was often deeply marked by indigenous and archaic cultures. Both exhibitions are on view from Nov. 26 through March 29, 2020.

No Place Like Home welcomes back three comedians who got their start here in Miami but have moved on to bigger and better, doing amazing things in other cities. We’re clicking our ruby slippers three times and bringing them home for the holidays so that you can see how they’ve evolved in their time away.

For the first edition we have comedians coming down from New York, each one having their own special relationship with their hometown Miami. Our headliner Plus Pierre has toured internationally, performing solo as well as part of a group show “Coming Through America.” Our two features. Irene Morales and Paul Julmeus have hosted their own rooms in NY as well as Miami, and worked on a variety of TV, Film, and online projects since leaving home.

We can’t forget our ride or die Miamians who still live down here, so we’re bringing out local staples Julie Baez (who recently opened for Tiffany Haddish) and Reginald Desjardins (host of a number of beloved local theme shows) to open up the show, along with “305 till he mother-lovin’ dies” Danny “Miami” Reyes as host.

Come out to relive the glory days, or to discover some amazing talent that was born and/or bred in our own back yard, spreadin’ that Miami swagger all across the globe for us!

During Miami Art Week 2019, the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is presenting a special exhibition reception on Thursday, Dec. 5 to celebrate its two exhibitions showcasing women artists ― Cecilia Vicuña’s “Cecilia Vicuña: About to Happen” and the late French-Mexican Surrealist Alice Rahon’s “Poetic Invocations.” Both exhibitions will open on Tuesday, Nov. 26 and remain on view through Sunday, March 29, 2020.

The first major U.S. solo exhibition of influential Chilean-born artist Cecilia Vicuña, “About to Happen” traces Vicuña’s career-long commitment to exploring displaced materials, peoples, and landscapes in a time of climate change. It is comprised of Vicuña’s multidisciplinary work in performance, sculpture, drawing, video, text, and site-specific installations created over 40 years. For the first time in this traveling exhibition, the show will include painting, a practice Vicuña began during the 1970s and to which she has recently returned, in some cases repainting lost works from memory. The exhibition is co-curated by Andrea Andersson, The Helis Foundation Chief Curator of Visual Arts at the CAC, and Julia Bryan-Wilson, Associate Professor, University of California, Berkeley.

“Poetic Invocations” marks the first solo show dedicated to Alice Rahon’s work in the U.S. in 55 years. Born in France and later nationalized as a Mexican, Rahon became an active member of a group of European Surrealist artists in exile. This exhibition examines a robust moment that emerged in 1940 as an international community of artists fled World War II in Europe and settled in Mexico. It will feature approximately 30 works including paintings, works on paper, as well as archival material that emphasizes Rahon´s oeuvre as a whole. The exhibition is guest curated by Mexico City-based art historian Tere Arcq. Arcq has worked as chief curator at the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City, and has independently produced many high-profile exhibitions.

*Free admission during Art Basel Miami Beach extended to Art Basel, Art Miami, Design Miami, Pinta, Prizm, PULSE, NADA, SCOPE and UNTITLED VIP cardholders

Miami Beach, Florida 33140

Meet featured artist Elizabeth Sutton and see her solo show, Just Breathe, in the Schwartz-Jacobs Family Gallery at the Miami Beach JCC. The preview will be on Tuesday, December 3 from 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM. The exhibition will be on display from December 3, 2019 through January 24, 2020.

Many works of art betray the hand of the artist. Elizabeth Sutton’s work, however, tells of the mind of the artist. Her compositional signature is a strong undercurrent of mathematical proportions and algorithmic color placement. Nothing is accidental; everything is intuitive. And with a nod to pop and a dash of kitsch, Sutton creates compositions that are focused on enlivening spaces and uplifting spirits. Sutton believes that her compositions find engaging the viewer with organizational complexity while simultaneously entertaining with whimsy.

Elizabeth Sutton is a millennial “mom-preneur” and visual artist who has taken the nouveau arts scene by storm. In 2016, Elizabeth was selected to participate in the NYDesigns incubator program, exhibited at both the Affordable Art Fair & Hamptons Designer Showhouse, and was featured by Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing,” as well as The New York Post. In 2018, Sutton partnered with Joe & The Juice in locations across New York City, in support of The Art of Elysium. Elizabeth’s tile collection for Tilebar is a two-time award collection, from Architectural Digest and HD Expo. Elizabeth recently released her first leather collection, announced exclusive partnerships with the luxury resort, Eden Rock – St Barths and Janovic, the NYC-based Paint & Decorating Center along with launching her lifestyle blog.

Each panelist will give a brief but illuminating presentation on a single topic and then engage in a lively group discussion to forge meaningful connections between their interpretations and the broader notions uniting works in the exhibition.
These public programs are part of Where the Oceans Meet, an exhibition of modern and contemporary art that resonates with the pioneering thought of two Caribbean writers, Lydia Cabrera and Édouard Glissant. The international group of 40 artists and collectives in the exhibition considers notions of shifting and porous borders—geographic, national, cultural, social, racial, ethnic, and linguistic—and how crossing borders has shaped our world. Where the Oceans Meet opened on May 26 and will be on view through January 12, 2020.

Members of the South Florida community are invited to enjoy food, drinks and live music while experiencing the talents of our residents and other members of the community.

Art is not only a form of self-expression and storytelling, but it also acts as a form of therapy. Miami Jewish Health residents take part in art classes each day, and some who suffer from Alzheimer’s and dementia use art as a form of relaxation therapy. In an effort to support these classes, 20% of all art sales at MJ Basel go directly to Miami Jewish Health’s art programs.

Local South Florida artists participating include Serge Toussaint, Erika King and more.

History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will shine a spotlight on the significant contributions of local Native American artists during Native American Heritage Month in November. “Patchwork Mosaic: An Indigenous Gathering of Seminole Masterworks” featuring a retrospective of contemporary and traditional fine art from Elgin Jumper, Jessica Osceola, Gordon Oliver Wareham, Brian Zepeda, Pedro Zepeda, Erica Deitz, Samuel Tommie, Tia Blais-Billie, Jacqueline Osceola and Stephanie Hall (collaboratively curated by the artists along with Tara Chadwick, Jimmy Osceola, and Dante Blais-Billie) will run from November 15 – January 12 at the New River Inn building of History Fort Lauderdale, an Art Basel partner cultural institution.

“Patchwork Mosaic: An Indigenous Gathering of Seminole Masterworks” is one of several insightful experiences at History Fort Lauderdale. Permanent exhibits include the new “The Bryans of Fort Lauderdale” which allows visitors to experience the story of the City of Fort Lauderdale as told through the pioneer family that shaped its development from an agricultural outpost in 1896 to a bustling city in the 1920s to its current status as a leading Metropolis, “Juliette Lange: A Portrait of a Mezzo Soprano,” a fashion and lifestyle glimpse of the socially prominent Fort Lauderdale resident with a lauded career as a star vocalist of musical comedy, plus “Archaeology of the New River” and a multitude of narratives and photos sharing the history of other founding families of Fort Lauderdale. The nonprofit museum also hosts a variety of yearly multicultural exhibits highlighting African American, Caribbean, Latinx and women artists sharing their views of history.

Last year, History Fort Lauderdale, in conjunction with The Florida Humanities Council, launched Florida Stories’ “Walk Fort Lauderdale,” the first FREE Broward County walking tour app (available through the App Store and Google Play). The tour, featuring archival photos, renderings and cultural narratives, allows visitors to learn about the colorful history of Fort Lauderdale at their own pace at 12 significant locations including the New River and Bryan Homes on the History Fort Lauderdale Campus and the Bryan/Abreu building (201 SW 2nd St.).

Entry to “Patchwork Mosaic: An Indigenous Gathering of Seminole Masterworks” is free with History Fort Lauderdale general admission – $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is always free for members, military and children ages six and under. For tickets, please visit http://bit.ly/HistoryFortLauderdaleTickets.
