With favorite films from the 1940s through the 1990s to serve as the agency’s inspiration, Jacober Creative placed their graphic design spin on American film culture, as filtered through the lens of the usually disposable medium of Instagram, recast onto everyday “objects of desire.” On display at the Cinematheque will be a unique range of 3-D showcases for the graphic designs, such as Bkr water bottles with Carrie inspired graphics, Vans sneakers with a design that is a tribute to The Birds, and a lunch box with a Breakfast at Tiffany’s-style graphic.

IRL (In Reel Life) will open with a reception from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5. The exhibit will run through December 31, and is free and open to the public. The Miami Beach Cinematheque is located in the Old City Hall at 1130 Washington Avenue. For more information, visit Jacober Creative at www.jacobercreative.com or call (305) 672-3293.

Inspired by Billie Holiday, the budding singer experienced an initial flurry of excitement in discovering jazz and blues, listening to such artists as Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Donny Hathaway, Thelonious Monk, etc. She was also greatly influenced by artists like Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Rickie Lee Jones and Bob Dylan. Polly has cultivated her craft and eclecticism over the past decade, performing at all the leading UK jazz clubs, international festivals and as a regular at the legendary venue Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, where she has sung with the All-Stars, led by pianist and house musical director James Pearson.

“There’s always this element of surprise from people who haven’t seen her perform,” says Pearson, Polly’s longtime songwriting collaborator and arranger. “She astounds me, too. She’s unpredictable.” In 2016, she opened the sold out UK tours for George Benson and Gladys Knight and had two acclaimed performances at the Royal Albert Hall. She was also a featured singer with the Liverpool Philharmonic in a presentation of the music and life story of John Lennon. Polly is quickly establishing herself in the States as well, with shows these past few years in Florida, Boston, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Los Angeles and Birdland in NYC. She released her critically acclaimed UK debut album, “My Own Company,” in 2014.

Polly’s road now leads her to one of those extraordinary places with the release of “Is It Me…?” The album is a journey all its own – a culmination of so many moments that also signifies a meaningful new beginning for both the singer and contemporary jazz.

“A voice that is to Jazz what Adele’s is to pop: rich, powerful, soul-baring!.” – London Evening Standard

Miami Motel Stories is a real-time immersive theatre experience that takes place inside one of Little Havana’s most beautiful and iconic buildings – the Tower Hotel. Built in 1920, this newly-restored boutique hotel has nearly a century of deep-rooted history in the neighborhood, and we’re telling those stories, inviting you on a journey of Miami’s past, present, and future… one room at a time.

Three ticket types unlock different experiences at the Tower Hotel. The first floor allows you to come and go as you wish through 12 hotel rooms. You’ll meet and mingle with characters from the neighborhood, and get to the heart of Little Havana in an experience through decades of its music, culture, history, and crime. The second floor is designed to be an intimate experience; you will enter these rooms, two at a time, for a close-up look at the people who lived or stayed in the hotel through time, including jazz icon Billie Holiday, who was a frequent visitor in the 50s.

Sunday shows begin at 3:05 p.m. and are supported by 305 Cafecito. Enjoy cafecito before, during and after the show.
Stay tuned for the secret code to get into the Tower speakeasy after the last show featuring live music from Miami’s favorites.

Barry Fellman’s new large format prints from his ongoing, multi-year project, Mangrove Coast, are now on exhibit at Biscayne National Park’s Dante Fascell Visitor Center.  The photos explore the rejuvenation of the shoreline areas hard hit by Hurricane Andrew 25 years ago.  They reveal the unexpected beauty, rhythms and patterns of South Florida’s spectacular mangrove habitats.

Fellman’s photos seduce you, inviting you closer to understand them. As you approach, basic notions of scale and distance remain a mystery until your nose is nearly pressed against the surface. Then the images clarify into familiar forms of sea grasses, shells and shallow tide pools. You realize you are looking at wondrous and fantastic views of the shoreline by the beach.

The images portray the spirit of place by connecting with our own appreciation of the natural environment. Fellman’s aim is to strengthen these connections, which are crucial to preserving the mangrove habitat, the linchpin of our community’s natural landscape.

The mangrove ecosystem provides shoreline protection and serves as the economic base for the recreational and commercial activities that have made our County prosper.  It recycles nutrients and is the breeding and feeding grounds for hundreds of species, nurturing a wide range of marine life, amphibians, birds, and mammals.

Barry Fellman has served as curator of photography at institutions in Miami and New York and is currently director of Miami’s Center for Visual Communication.  His photographs have been exhibited at museums and public venues in South Florida and nationally.  He is a Silver Knight awardee and is the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant.

AQUA Art Miami, a sister fair of Art Miami, will celebrate its 13th edition this year at the AQUA Hotel in Miami Beach. A VIP Preview will be held on Wednesday, December 6 before the fair opens its doors to the public December 7-10.

The fair is a must-attend destination for influential collectors and art professionals to discover fresh talent and acquire works from emerging and mid-career artists. This year, 51 international exhibitors will present exciting works in intimate exhibition rooms that open onto the classic South Beach hotel’s beautiful courtyard.

Through the years, AQUA Art Miami has solidified itself as a unique event that stays true to its signature ‘relaxed-yet-energetic’ vibe, which is why it remains a favorite gathering spot for both seasoned and new collectors to view and purchase art of the highest quality while exchanging cultural ideas and forming meaningful connections. Once again, the fair will host spellbinding performance pieces while exhibiting a curated selection of special projects. This year, AQUA Art Miami will shine a spotlight on fashion and style and its distinct relationship to contemporary art, through standout projects that include:

AQUA Lobby Pop Up presented by Cindy Lisica Gallery (Houston)
The pop up shop will display a curated selection of original artwork, photography, limited edition prints, books and collectible art objects.

BE ART by Laura Kimpton presented by HG Contemporary (New York)
Kimpton, Burning Man breakout star, has created a 16-foot tall sculpture that embraces the centuries-old practice of art honoring intellectuals, artists and men of power by mimicking a traditional Roman marble bust. Her gold bust of a female monkey wearing a gold-plated necklace that proudly exclaims BE ART will welcome guests.

Live Tattoo Art by Thea Duskin presented by Ghostprint Gallery (Richmond)
Duskin is renowned for her exquisite watercolor tattoos and will provide live performances at select times throughout the fair, where in addition to working on large, pre-scheduled pieces, Duskin will offer fairgoers the opportunity to acquire an original one-off, single-session tattoo that can be completed in a short amount of time. Priced at $500, they will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Art from Canada presented by the Consulate General of Canada (Miami)
2017 marks Canada’s 150th anniversary since Confederation, and to celebrate, the Consulate General of Canada has spearheaded a curated project by Tranter-Sinni Gallery to highlight works from emerging and established Canadian artists from diverse backgrounds to reflect the rich regional range of Canada’s multiculturalism. Participating artists include Barbara Steinman, John Brown, Paterson Ewen, Wolfgang Kals, Jay Bell Red Bird, Russell Leng, Halina Stopyra, Andrew Maize and Christopher Gorey.

Talk with Art from Canada Artists – Saturday, December 9th at 2pm
On Saturday, December 9th at 2pm, the Consulate General of Canada in Miami and Tranter-Sinni Gallery will host an up-close and personal talk with two artists showing work at AQUA. Jay Bell Red Bird will speak about Canada’s aboriginal people – how they once lived, and continue to live, as loving, caring and peaceful people. He will talk about his time spent with Canadian artist Norval Morrisseau, and how great Canadian artists, including his father, Duke Redbird, have influenced his style and technique. Halina Stopyra will then discuss her work from a healing arts perspective, as well as her technique and intrinsic ability to heal through nature, each other and the universe.

AQUA Moments presented by Black Ship (Miami)
AQUA Moments will re-imagine space through sound, architecture, scent and the visual arts to create new environments that engage audiences to identify with all aspects of their surroundings by curation that stimulates and provokes multisensory satisfaction. As part of this program, multimedia performance artist Bea Pernia will provide the musical atmosphere for the VIP Preview.

AQUA Hotel Lobby exhibit featuring BAS Kosters presented by Rademakers Gallery (Amsterdam)
Artist and fashion designer Bas Kosters believes that fashion transforms, and as you wear a garment you become part of the art. His illustrations, drawings, paintings and graphic designs all work their way into his fashion creations. His work is a warning about alarming social issues by means of dark humor, while endeavoring to create enthusiasm and happiness on the other hand.

“Which Comes First, the Art or the Fashion?” presented by Morphew (New York)
Fashion and art always have been collaborators, and to this end, Morphew presents an art gallery and shop to showcase the ways in which these two worlds coexist through offering the most avant-garde 20th century designers and artists of luxury vintage fashion. The space will feature an installation dedicated to Keith Haring and his Pop Shop, as well as a collaboration with Kara Ross and Unleashed, where three original Bindi works utilizing vintage textiles will celebrate a collective of artisan women from Bareilly, India who are experts in the art of hand beading. These pieces were created through Unleashed’s work as a global social impact brand that provides women the opportunity to break the poverty cycle through education and job creation.
