Tri-Rail, South Florida’s premier commuter rail system, invites talented young singers, ages 5 to 17, to audition for the annual “South Florida’s Kids Got Talent” competition, to be held at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) (401 SW 2nd Street, Fort Lauderdale). Auditions will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, offering participants from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties the chance to showcase their vocal abilities and compete for a spot in the 2025 final event.

Tri-Rail’s “South Florida’s Kids Got Talent” competition has become a signature event, uniting children and families across the region. All performers aged 5 to 17 that reside in South Florida are invited to audition. Each act will have up to four minutes to perform in front of a panel of judges who will select the finalists for the main competition in February 2025, during Tri-Rail’s 16th annual “Rail Fun Day,” presented by Herzog. Judges will score based on vocal range, stage presence, and style.

Over the years, “Rail Fun Day” has grown into a beloved community event in Dania Beach, featuring interactive activities, food trucks, cookie decorating, face painting, and more. Last year’s event saw ten-year-old Samantha Schmerling take home the grand prize with her vocal performance, earning her $500, a one-year contract inclusive of a photo shoot with composite cards courtesy of Posche Models & Talent, and a professional studio recording session with MikeSoperMusic.

To secure an audition slot, participants must register at https://bit.ly/SFKGT2024 on or before Tuesday, November 19.

Re: American Heritage Schools to Host its Annual “K-9 Cause: An Evening of Art” Auction 4/20/24

American Heritage Schools [ahschool.com], the top-ranked PK3 through 12 college preparatory school in Florida, is proud to announce its annual “K-9 Cause: An Evening of Art” auction benefiting the Broward Sheriff’s Foundation’s Retired Canine Relief Fund, on Saturday, April 20.

Everyone loves dogs; however, police dogs, or K-9s, are a special breed. Instead of enjoying the pampered pet lifestyle, K-9s dedicate their entire lives to working daily to protect and serve citizens in our community along with their fearless handlers. They are considered law enforcement officers, whose duties include constant training, apprehending suspects, and searching for explosives, drugs, and missing persons.

When the K-9s retire, their law enforcement handlers graciously adopt them and continue to care for them, as these K-9s have become their friends for life. Recognizing that the medical and healthcare for these K-9s can get quite costly, the Broward Sheriff’s Foundation has established the Retired K-9 Healthcare Fund. This Fund pays for up to 50% of the wellness care costs for all retired K-9s from any local law enforcement agency in Broward County.

Inspired by a little boy’s passion for animals and art, American Heritage Schools is raising money to “fund this fund” by selling artistic renditions of these fine K-9s. Jackson Laurie, a sophomore at American Heritage Schools, and his parents Dr. Douglas Laurie and Nikki Laurie-Van Allen have partnered with the National Art Honor Society and the award-winning Fine Arts faculty at American Heritage to create artwork of these very K-9 being honored.

American Heritage Schools, Broward Campus, will be hosting a Silent Auction for these original works of art, as well as a limited supply of prints for sale at our K-9 Cause event. 100% of all funds raised from this event will benefit the Broward Sheriff Foundation’s Retired K-9 Relief Fund.

Annette Recommends Robert is Here

Robert is Here
9200 SW 344th Street Homestead,

(305) 246-1592
www.robertishere.com

I just love going to visit Robert is Here. Robert is always there and willing to answer any questions you may have or help you pick out what you are looking for. Every time I go, I ask Robert to pick out a mango that will be ready to eat either that day or the next, and he has picked the perfect one every time.

One of the best thing there is the Good and Evil Pickles which is pickles, jalapenos and garlic cloves, and oh my gosh these are the best things ever. I can eat half a jar in one sitting, they are that good and a little spicy.

I have tried so many things and have pretty much love it all. They have great jams, jellies, honey, chutney, hot sauces and bar-b-que sauces. They have such a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and every time I go I have to buy a fruit I have never tried or even heard of. I could go on and on, but if you have not visited Robert is Here you really need to go, you are missing one of Miami’s greatest treasures.

Annette Recommends – Los Potosinos Taqueria at the Redland Market

We traveled down to the Redlands and stopped by the Redlands Market to grab a bite to eat.  We decided to stop at Los Potosinos Taqueria, I had the tostadas with pork and it was amazing.  The pork was cooked outside on spit with pineapple,  WOW it was good.  James had the enchilada’s and I have to say it was about the best enchiladas I have had. So if you want really good Mexican food and don’t mind driving about 30 minutes down to the Redland’s, you won’t be disappointed.

Guinness World Record Guacamole Event at Schnebly Redland’s Winery 10/11/09

Guinness World Record Guacamole Event at Schnebly Redland’s Winery
This Sunday October 11th, we’re going to attempt to break the Guiness World Recordâ„¢ for “Largest Serving of Guacamole”! We’re going to be breaking California’s record of 4,011 lbs! Except we’ll be doing it with Florida Green Skin Avocados instead of the Mexican Haas avocados that California uses!
We’ve got four teams of kids from local high schools teamed up with four South Florida superstar chefs (Chef Allen Susser, Chef Michael Schwartz, Chef Darren Lee and Chef Giancarla Bodoni) to make this guacamole. Not only that, but we’ll have contests for the Best Guacamole Recipe, Best Avocado Ice Cream and Best Avocado Cake/Pie! All proceeds from this event will go to benefit the culinary and agriculture programs from the four schools!
Click here for more info and RSVP on Facebook!
30205 SW 217 Ave – Homestead, FL 33030 – (888) 717-WINE

Our goal is to break the Guinness Book of World Records for “largest Serving of Guacamole”. The current record is 4011 pounds 12 ounces set back in 2007. The previous record holder is the Mexican Avocado Industry and FECADEMI. The record was set at the Michoacan Community Federation located in Lynwood California, USA.

This event will raise money and awareness for Florida’s Green Skin Avocados, Miami Dade’s Culinary programs in four high schools, South Dade S.H., John A. Ferguson S.H., Robert Morgan S.H. and Homestead S.H. All monies raised would go to these schools’ culinary arts programs.

Schnebly Redland’s Winery Located at 30205 SW 217 Ave, Redland Florida, 33030 will be the host sponsor for the event and will be donating the facilities at no cost. The attempt will be the highlight of the “Holy Moly Redland Guacamole Celebration” starting Friday Oct 9th. From 6pm till 10pm, we will have live un-plugged music, dancing, tours showing how to make Avocado wine along with a tasting of our 3 different Avocado wines. Saturday will feature everything avocado. Sunday will be the highlight event with the fund raiser for the culinary programs and the attempt of the world record.

On Sunday Oct 11th, the students will begin work at 8am. The scheduled time of competition is 3pm. The public is invited from noon until 5pm.

Fresh King Farms and the Krome family groves will be donating their avocados for the historic event. Four South Florida culinary icons: Chef Allen of Chef Allen’s Restaurant in Aventura, Chef Michael Schwartz of Michaels Genuine Food and Drink in the Design District of Miami, Chef Darren Lee of Intercontinental West Miami Hotel in Doral and Chef Giancarla Bodoni of Escopazzo in South Beach will each be assigned a school and will guide the students in developing the record-breaking guacamole. In addition to the record-breaking guacamole, each famed chef will help the students create three dishes for an interschool competition:

1. Best Guacamole
2. Ice Cream made from Florida Avocados
3. Cake or pie made from Florida Avocados

Monies will be raised by the following ways:

1. Parking
2. Sales of Guacamole, Ice Cream and pies or cakes made by students
3. Donations
4. Sale of Art from the students with the theme of the day or Florida Avocados.

The music program from the schools will be providing music throughout the day. In addition, students will be competing in a YouTube video contest to produce the best event video from the day.

Annual Redland Riot Road Rallye
Scheduled For January 10

By Robert A. Burr
I want to bring you up to date on our annual road rallye event scheduled for Saturday, January 10 when we’ll be venturing through the countryside collecting goodies. Load up your car with friends and join us for a unique road rally through Miami’s bountiful countryside.
The Start
We’ll be gathering at Cauley Square, US1 at 224 Street, at 11am Saturday, January 10 to begin our adventure. Each car will receive a free map with driving directions, as well as a set of questions to answer along the way.
Here’s some updates and ideas of what to look for at each stop.
Cauley Square has some new shops, including an aquarium, a store that sells honey and a dog grooming salon. The Tea Room and the Village Chalet restaurants are offering some delicious fare for brunch.
Burr’s Berry Farm is open and the strawberries are delicious, as always. Say hello to my aunt Mary, as well as cousins Kathy and Charles, now back on the farm. The home-made strawberry jam is a great treat, not to mention the ice cream and strawberry milkshakes.
Knaus Berry Farm is baking those sticky cinnamon buns as fast as they can — and barely keeping up with the demand. They have u-pick tomatoes and strawberries out back, as well as the usual assortment of fresh baked breads, pies, cakes and brownies. The organic produce and honey is some of the best around.
The Fruit And Spice Park will be hosting their annual Redland Festival January 10 so expect a great experience when stopping there.
RF Orchids has many great orchids in bloom this season. Get a copy of their book “Robert’s Road” about the history of their family’s orchid business.
Schnebly Redland’s Winery is celebrating their new grand tasting room and visitor’s center, as well as a host of new tropical fruit wines to taste.
Robert Is Here fruit stand is teeming with wonderful seasonal goodies and exotic delicacies, plus those famous milkshakes — with live music out front and their own little zoo out back.
The Redland Hotel, our final stop on the tour, features a great new restaurant. The Redland Steakhouse offers a fine selection of appetizers and dinners, and the bar is well-stocked with libations.
The Finish
We’ll be gathering at the Redland Hotel at 5pm to find out which team has answered the most questions correctly to win the grand prize. Afterwards, you’re invited to join us for dinner at the steakhouse. To be guaranteed a reservation for dinner, call 305-246-1904.
