Currently, Kathleen Bell is Vocal Instructor at the SoBe Music Institute (Miami’s Institute for Performing Arts), Adjunct Instructor of Voice at the New World School of the Arts, the Director of Music Ministry at St. Augustine Church, and an FVA Festival Adjudicator.

Ms. Bell is a graduate of the University of Miami Vocal Performance program, where she was featured as Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata, the Countess in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and Lizette in Puccini’s La Rondine. While pursuing a master’s degree in Vocal Pedagogy at F.I.U., Kathleen performed as Adina in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amour and Miss Warbelwell in Mozart’s The Impressario, directed by Phillip Church.

Ms. Bell has traveled extensively throughout Europe, performing in Denmark, Austria, and Italy in recitals and as Adele in J. Strauss’s Die Fledermaus with the Rome Festival Orchestra. Locally, Kathleen has been a featured soloist with the Miami Symphony, the Miami Oratorio Society, the Hispanic Lyric Theatre, and as a member of the ensemble of Florida Grand Opera.

On Sunday, March 13 at 3 p.m., the Bass Museum of Art and the Florida International University School of Music present Mummies, Monets & All That Jazz as part of their ongoing concert series at the museum. The event highlights the most talented musicians at FIU and provides locals with a Sunday afternoon music program consisting of popular opera selections meant to delight, thrill and entertain. Deskarga Jam Band….Timba meets Latin Jazz. Composed of Cuban-American musicians with a unique free style of playing, the musicians individually have performed with Julio Iglesias, Jon Secada, Los Sobrinos, Tipica Tropical, among others. Deskarga’s repertoire covers everything from Benny Moré, Los Van Van, Buena Vista, and NG La Banda to Celia Cruz. The band has played to the greater Miami dance audience in venues such as Alcazabas, Macabi Cigar Bar, Mojitos & Calle Ocho Festival among others, as well as numerous private and corporate events.

Deskarga have earned a reputation for exceptional musicianship and their exciting energetic live performances. They can captivate audiences’ hearts with their soulful montunos, explosive percussion riffs, and melodic vocal improvisations.

Voted “Best Jazz Musician in Miami (2009)” by the Miami New Times, pianist-composer Silvano Monasterios hails from Caracas, Venezuela. After obtaining an “Outstanding Soloist Award” at the University of Colorado in 1991, Silvano received a music scholarship from the University of Miami, from which he earned a Bachelor of Music in 1995.

Silvano has performed with a number of important artists including Ira Sullivan, Terumasa Hino & the World Jazz All-Stars, Othello Molineaux, Dave Liebman, Melton Mustafa, Marc Johnson, Donald Byrd, Alan Harris, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Nathen Page, Randy Brecker, Sammy Figueroa, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Paul Wertico, Mark Egan, Shakira, David Lee Roth, and Nestor Torres.

In 1998, Silvano was voted “New Artist of the Year” at the Hennessy Cognac Jazz Search in New York City. 1998 also marked the release of his first CD, Roads Not Taken, which received outstanding reviews in the U.S. and Latin America.

He earned his Master’s Degree in Jazz Piano and Pedagogy in 2004 from The University of Miami. DownBeat Magazine honored Silvano as the winner of its “Best Jazz Instrumental Soloist Award” in the 28th Annual (2005) Student Music Awards. In 2006, his new recording, Fostered, was released. Fostered features all original compositions, including “Avila”, mentioned above.

In 2007, Dogleg Records, a new independent company, released a recording of a live concert by the Wertico/Egan/Monasterios Trio entitled “Jazz Impressions”. Silvano composed, performed & co-produced two songs, including the title track, of the 2008 GRAMMY-nominated album, “The Magician”, by Sammy Figueroa & His Latin Jazz Explosion. This wonderful CD has been nominated as “Best Latin Jazz Album of the Year”.
The 4th World Ensemble, emerging in 2007 from Monasterios’ desire to experiment with the fusion of Latin Rhythms, World Music and Pure Jazz, features Monasterios on piano, accompanied by percussion, drums, bass and saxophone. The ensemble performs all original music composed and arranged by Silvano, and this year will release a new CD, “Unconditional.”

Born in 1948 and now in his third decade as a professional performing artist, E continues to nurture his passion for the Blues. Growing up in New York, he discovered his purpose at the age of 13, when he was drawn to the sounds of Acoustic Blues, and got his first harmonica when he discovered Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. In the 70s, 80s and 90s, he developed his singer/songwriting talents, as well as an aptitude for playing other instruments beautifully… His specialty was the blues harp. He established himself as a ground-breaking harmonica player, and became a percussionist with Hodges, James and Smith (back in the early 70s) as well as a studio musician with Bolic Sound Studios, playing behind Ike and Tina Turner. He also played percussions on Sussex Records with Bobbi Hall behind Bill Withers in 1971 through 1974. In the 80s, he moved to Chicago where he played with the likes of John Prine, Jo Mapes, and Joseph Jarman.

While family and other commitments would interrupt his career, E always returned to his roots in blues, and 2000 saw the release of his second album, “The First Time Out”, an extraordinary recording that was an eclectic mix of ten original compositions comprising Blues, R&B, Jazz, Delta and Gospel. In 2002, E hit his stride, adding his exceptional harmonica skills and powerful vocals to the mix. He delivers charismatic, compelling, and passionate performances that are charged with emotion and filled with his authentic signature style. Always experimenting with new sounds, he sometimes makes bold, daring renditions of obscure tunes of legendary icons such as Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, adding his unique spin to them.

2006 was a creative year for E, what with three albums released and building his own record label, Black Owl Music. While his albums showcase the sensual range of his vocals and the use of his voice as an incredibly multi-faceted instrument, it is his haunting harp signature style that captivates and inspires his audience. “Mississippi Reminiscence” is the most personal of his work, and “Five Long Years: A Tribute To Carey Bell” has been hailed as sheer unadulterated blues.
