Help Raise Funds for Hurricane Matthew Relief
Local businesses come together to organize a bake sale where all funds will go to help the women and girls of Haiti

This year South Florida residents were very lucky that Hurricane Matthew missed them. After seeing the devastation in Haiti, Daniella Biffi, Managing Director and Founder of Pollen Theory- a local PR firm, decided to bring together local businesses and members of the community to donate their products and services to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Matthew at a local bake sale.

Every last penny donated will go to Heart to Heart International, who’s PowrServ program helps women and girls by donating ”Women’s Hygiene Kits.” This organization is recognized for its dedication to strengthening communities by improving health access, humanitarian development and administering crisis relief worldwide. This charity ranks amongst the highest on the Charity Navigator website.

Bake Sale Information:

Why: Women and girls are particularly vulnerable in the developing world when there’s a crisis situation like a natural disaster. We wanted to focus our efforts in helping them deal with Hurricane Matthew’s devastation with dignity.

What: All proceeds will go to the PowrServ program, who puts together the women hygiene kits. Each kit includes: 2 pairs of underwear, 2 reusable menstrual pads, washbowl, 2 bars of soap, 4 condoms, a whistle, crank flashlight, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, Band-Aids, hand towel, wash cloth, nail clippers and the following educational materials: Menstrual Health, Stay Safe Use a Condom, Pad Use/Care, Stay Healthy Wash Your Hands.

The kits cost $20 each and are invaluable to these girls. Our goal is to raise enough money to provide 100 kits to the women and girls of Haiti.

For those who won’t be able to attend the bake sale and still want to make a donation please visit: https://www.gofundme.com/hurricane-relief-for-girls-in-haiti-2tzb2x8

Local Businesses come together! A special thank you to our bake sale sponsors: Simple Fly Creative, Bunnie Cakes, Contenti Cupcakes, Miam Cafe, Mmmm Cupcakes, Lola the Baker, Miami Printing, Elizabeth from the Coconut Grove Farmer’s Market, Diego Texera Photography, and our volunteer amateur bakers :)

The intelligence of the heart is the source of all real abundance, joy, purpose and love. It is the source of all great art, literature and music, the fountainhead of all genius and all true inspiration. It is the source of the magic.

How rarely it flowers in a human life! Why? We have not been taught how to awaken this power, or why it matters. How come? The consensus consciousness aggressively discourages the awakening of this Intelligence. Why? Because those in whom this power is awakened, can no longer be controlled.

No organization can own it, patent it or monopolize it (though many have tried). No school or college teaches it. No categories define it, and no words describe it. It is not secular. It is not religious. It is not normal. It is not spiritual. It is the most mystical, and the most practical, the most sublime, and the most grounded.

The heroes of all time are the ones who have awakened to it. All great lives have been built upon it. All progress, all contribution to humanity has been shaped by it. Enduring love is impossible without it. All innovation derives from it.

All questions are answered by it. All problems are solved by it. All healing is accomplished by it.

All lasting beauty bears its imprint. It is unchanging, deathless, and full of Fire. When you live from it, it is irresistible, unstoppable. To this Intelligence, there are no impossible.

It is your North Star, quiet, luminous and clear, standing across time, shining in the bright blue night of your destiny. She is crying out to you, calling you Home, and waiting for you to answer…

In these 3 days, we will lay the foundation for fully awakening this luminous Intelligence, which is your Eternal Being, and for refining your ability to handle this Power that lives in you.

This show brings together an international group of artists to examine the influence of natural and manufactured geometries in contemporary practice. Young Artist Initiative (YAI), Miami’s newest artist driven concept presents Design and its Dimensions, a curated sensory exhibition on Friday, October 28th, 2016 at The Moore Building organized by the Young Artist Initiative in partnership with the Miami Design District.

For its next exhibition, YAI has carefully selected Design and its Dimensions as the conceptual base for live art and activations. Design has been the force of evolution since the birth of innovation and has accompanied the development of our culture over the course of history. Its precise yet flexible nature has been the power behind our greatest civilizational advancements, from the creation of industry to the mapping of cities.

The Young Artist Initiative (YAI) aims to create a dialogue by instilling Design and its Dimensions as the conceptual base of its next exhibition. All participating artists and designers are being presented with the challenge of interpreting the exhibitions central thesis: how do we design the fourth dimension?

YAI invites you to enjoy and ponder the reflections of Miami’s Collective of Young Artists at Design and its Dimensions on Friday, October 28th 2016 at the Moore Building. The event starts at 8 p.m. and goes until 3 a.m.

The Miami Design District, the brainchild of Craig Robins, is a creative neighbourhood dedicated to innovative fashion, design, art, architecture, and dining. The Moore Building, located in the heart of the Design District, is a unique exhibition space with four floors of arcades spaces totaling more than 21,000-square-feet. On permanent display in the atrium is the site-specific installation “Elastika”, created by Zaha Hadid.

Greenspoon Marder, an Am Law 200 and NLJ 350 law firm, and the Legal Learning Series, a leader in legal education, networking and events, announce today the launch of the First Annual Cannabis Law and Business Conference & Expo to be held on November 4 at the Bonaventure Resort and Spa in Weston, FL.

Focusing on laws affecting practitioners and businesses within the cannabis industry, the conference provides the opportunity to bring together the best thought leaders from around the country to explore the legal issues and challenges facing the sector and to educate those interested in the cannabis industry.

“The firm’s sponsorship of the First Annual Cannabis Law and Business Conference is a significant step in our efforts to serve the $5.4 billion legalized cannabis industry on a national level,” says Gerald Greenspoon, Co-Managing Director of Greenspoon Marder.
“We are honored to work with the Legal Learning Series to make this event the prime destination for attorneys and business professionals looking to enter the industry or sharpen their knowledge.”

As of 2016, 25 states in the U.S. plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and Guam have enacted laws to legalize medical marijuana. Florida and several other states are considering medical marijuana on the ballot in November. With the cannabis industry preparing to enter new states, it is critical for legal practitioners and business professionals alike to stay abreast of these issues and to get out in front of them wherever possible.

“We are especially excited to have the support of our presenting sponsor Greenspoon Marder,” says Robert Friedman, Co-founder and Executive Director of Legal Learning Series. He continues, “Having a national firm that is committed to taking a leadership position in the cannabis space as a partner in our endeavor has made all the difference. The support we receive from leading firms like Greenspoon Marder, and from our existing partners, allows us to provide the absolute best in quality programming and events for the legal community.”

Greenspoon Marder expanded its national corporate practice in highly-regulated industries to include Cannabis Law in June 2016, along with the opening of three new offices in Denver, Las Vegas and San Diego – three cities in regions that are central to the advances, legalization and regulation of cannabis. The firm plans to continue to extend its presence and open additional offices in states that are likely to play a key role in shaping the cannabis industry.

PINTA Miami 11/30/16 – 12/4/16

PINTA Miami
Wednesday, 11/30/2016 – 12/04/2016 12:30 pm –
Pinta Logo 10th Edition FINALMana Wynwood
318 NW 23rd Street,
Miami, Florida 33127
Website
Cost: One-day fair pass $20 One-day fair pass including catalog $40 Students 12-18 years and Seniors $15 Children under 12 years accompanied by adult- Free Groups 10 or more $15

PINTA Miami is gearing up for its 10th anniversary celebration, which will take place from November 30 to December 4, 2016 at MANA Wynwood, located in the heart of the Miami Arts District. This edition will be the pinnacle of ten years that have left a mark on the world of modern and contemporary art from Latin America. In order to further our mission, PINTA Miami’s curatorial committee has expanded its project to include galleries from around the globe while maintaining a conceptual dialogue across all cultures, connecting Latin America to the rest of the world.

Launched in New York in 2006, the fair is considered the most important event of its kind. The founding of PINTA Miami was a milestone event in awareness of twentieth-century Hispanic-American art. It has increased the visibility in the United States of crucial figures like Julio Le Parc, José Gurvich, Jorge Eielson, Lydia Okumura, Antonio Manuel, Waltercio Caldas, Ivan Contreras Brunet, Carlos Cruz-Diez, and Spanish artist Elena Asins—all of whom have been featured in its exhibitions and galleries. Emerging contemporary artists like Elias Crespin, Ivan Navarro, Alexandre Arrechea, Dario Escobar, Matias Duville, Alejandro Londono, Gonzalo Fuenmayor, José Luis Landet, Ricardo Alcaide, Emilio Chapela, and many others have also participated in the fair. Through innovative management strategies, PINTA has been instrumental to major museums’ acquiring works by Latin American artists. A few examples of such acquisitions include a piece by Abraham Palatnik purchased by MoMA for its permanent collection; a work by Elias Crespín purchased by The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and a work by Fernando Bryce purchased by the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA).

“Thanks to its impressive programming, PINTA Miami 2015 was extremely well attended. Our curated sections featured not only works by a range of legendary artists, but also recreations of historical performances. The fantastic selection of participating galleries from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal built new relationships with international collectors and directors of art institutions, enabling a great many sales,” states Diego Costa Peuser, the founder and director of PINTA Miami. “There was great interest in figures like Romulo Aguerre, Reynaldo Luza, Roberto Obregon, and Elena Asins, and in artists born after the sixties like the Carla Arocha – Stéphane Schraenen duo.”

PINTA Miami 2016 will be more international and interdisciplinary. Thanks to their successful sections at last year’s edition, curators José Antonio Navarrete, Roc Laseca, and Jesus Fuenmayor will return this year to curate sections on photography, drawing, and solo projects respectively. This edition aims to continue to provide a platform for its participants and to further the fair’s mission of showcasing pioneering artists and discovering young talents.

In addition, PINTA Miami launches the Young Collectors Desk, an initiative of Guijarro de Pablo Art Consulting. The objective is to provide to the assistants -already avid collectors and enthusiasts of art – with the necessary tools to maximize the experience at the fair. The Young Collectors Desk aims to educate and give attendees the opportunity to explore the world of the arts with guided tours that focus on the construction and maintenance of a coherent and sustainable collection. The initiative is directed by Jimena Guijarro, who combines her knowledge of strategic communications with her experience and passion for the visual arts. One of her specialties is to introduce and facilitate the collecting processes to newcomers to the art world.

PINTA Miami is directed by Diego Costa Peuser, CEO and Editor in Chief of Arte al Dia Internacional magazine. He is also the founder and director of PARC – Peru Arte Contemporaneo, BAphoto (Buenos Aires Photo), and the Buenos Aires and Punta del Este editions of Gallery Nights. In this 2016 edition, PINTA Miami will also enjoy the support of the SaludArte Foundation, directed by collector Tanya Brillembourg, and EFG Bank, a Swiss bank that has had offices in Miami for over twenty years. LATAM also returns to PINTA as the sponsor of VIP lounge. On this anniversary edition, PINTA reinforces its commitment to support and promote latin american art while connecting it to the rest of the world by “crossing cultures”, thereby taking the fair to new frontiers.

Toda percepción es una interpretación: You are part of it is a retrospective look from the viewpoint of contemporary issues of art, culture, politics and economics. It seeks to reflect on the successive reconfigurations of the art map in the last few decades, on the displacements and relocations of its primary centers, from Paris to New York, from Venice to São Paulo, from Basel to Miami. It speaks of areas that have succeeded in alternating centripetal or centrifugal forces, where art has relocated its meeting points and its observation points. We also pay attention to the effects of redrawing the financial or political map, with the repercussion it has on how one makes and proceeds in art.

2016 Common Field Convening Miami 10/20/16 – 10/23/16

2016 Common Field Convening Miami
commonfieldLittle Haiti Cultural Center
212 NE 59th Terrace
Miami, FL 33137
Website

The Common Field Convening is an itinerant annual gathering created by and for the field of visual artists’ organizations. These organizations support artists and foster experimental projects that are responsive to and embedded in the places and communities in which they live and work.

This years convening in Miami FL investigates the contexts and conditions of experimental arts organizing in a time of accelerated capitalism. The convening is organized in collaborating partnership by Miami’s BFI (Bas Fisher Invitational), Cannonball, Dimensions Variable, and Locust Projects, an alliance of local Miami organizers and a national Common Field team.

The 2016 program includes panels, breakouts, data blitzes, workshops, events, tours, and celebrations throughout the city. This year’s program includes a variety of formats for intimate conversation, peer-to-peer exchange and cross-pollination around both practical and value driven issues. It also provides forums for Common Field members to connect and strategize trajectories for the year ahead.

The 2016 Convening brings together 350+ local and national organizers to explore arts organizing in a time of accelerated capitalism.

While well-known for the hyperluxury commercial market fueled by Art Basel, Miami is also home to a robust network of artist and cultural organizations devoted to critical practice and experimental production. The 2016 Common Field Convening will connect national arts organizers and locals from Miami’s artist-run spaces and centers, alternative spaces, and independent artists’ projects at the Little Haiti Cultural Center.

This year’s Convening focuses on how artist-run and artist-centered organizations survive and sustain in our current times, which requires new practices for adjusting to rapid shifts in technological, environmental, economic, social and political forces. The four day program includes panels, breakout sessions, workshops, tours and local arts events.

Thursday’s Opening Ceremony includes a performance by Dream Defenders and a keynote by Edouard Duval-Carrié. Sessions on Friday and Saturday are anchored by 4 central panels each followed by a series of breakouts and talks featuring a total of 120 presenters sharing ideas and expertise in an additonal 20 breakouts, 4 lightning talks and 4 workshops. Central themes include Art Making Under Accelerated Capitalism, Transitions: Evolving Organization Models, Gentrification + Sustaining Neighborhoods, and Critical Programs/Critical Ideas.

Evening festivities and events at Fountainhead and Diaspora Vibe/DVCAI After Party bring the best of the Miami scene forward. Commissioned projects, screenings and performances feature local artists and collectives including Borscht Corp, Books Are Nice, Loni Johnson + Hattie Mae Williams, DJ Mack of Rhythm Foundation, Jillian Mayer, Miami Music Club With Ana Mendez, and Serge Toussaint.

Tickets include breakfast, lunch and Saturday dinner highlighting Miami’s rich culinary heritage.

Common Field is a national network of artists organizations that launched officially at the Fall 2015 Common Field Convening (aka Hand-in-Glove) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Four hundred and thirty self-nominating members from 40 states include artist-run and non-profit art spaces, publications, digital exhibition venues, festivals, residencies, collectives and collaborative organizers, curators, artists, and administrators working in a variety of mediums. Common Field creates visibility and viability for the field of artist organizations through connection, advocacy, research, and resources. The Convening provides an important outlet for national members to collectively plot futures for Common Field — brainstorming research trajectories, resource exchange channels, and advocacy strategies for the second official year of the organization.

Lead Miami partners include Bas Fisher Invitational (BFI), a 501c3 artist run space dedicated to creativity, experimentation, and discourse in contemporary art; Cannonball, a non-profit, 501c3, arts organization dedicated to supporting artists, innovative forms of cultural production, and education to advance critical discourse and understanding of contemporary art practice; Dimensions Variable (DV) an exhibition space based in Miami and committed to the presentation and support of contemporary art; and Locust Projects is not for profit exhibition space dedicated to providing contemporary visual artists the freedom to experiment with new ideas without the pressures of gallery sales or limitations of conventional exhibition spaces. The convening has inspired the growing Miami Arts Alliance, a group of 60+ local organizations who have provided insight and support for the initiative.

The 2016 Common Field Convening is generously supported by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, The Knight Foundation, The Hemera Foundation, The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and Common Field Members.

Palm Beach), or your typical boring house gatherings, then this party is definitely NOT for you. However, if you want to experience the real essence of Halloween and revel with 500 TRICKSTERS and TREATERS in the most engaging and ghoulish fashion in this part of the land, then we invite you to join us at LE MASQUE NOIR on Saturday, October 29th at Lemon City Studios in Miami. A FEW TIPS…
— BUY YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE ONLINE – Space is very limited to only 500 people… Door tickets (if this event is not sold out in advance) will be higher.
— SPEND TIME TO FIGURE OUT AND DESIGN YOUR COSTUMES – One of the most important elements of the success of this party is Audience Participation (That means YOU!!!). What could you create to stand apart from everybody else… Hmmmm??? Get creative!!!
— ARRIVE EARLY – The last thing you want to experience on Halloween Night is standing in a long line while wearing a Costume. Although we will be moving the line quickly, we cannot make magic happen when hundreds of people all show up at the same time… Also, you will have less of a walk to make from your Parking spot to the venue… Again, Get there early!!!

On October 15th, The Sacred Space Miami presents a one-day mindfulness festival in Miami: the Modern Life Mindfulness Festival.

There is currently no dedicated mindfulness festival in Miami, or even the US. This is a novel concept. The intention is to offer activities and speakers that connect people to mindful states. By experiencing mindfulness firsthand, and meeting others that are also interested in the lifestyle, Miamians will be inspired to lead healthier and more meaning-filled lives.

Mindfulness is an unequivocally positive lifestyle and set of practices that can be incorporated into most aspects of life. Miami is a destination for health and wellness, and we want it to be a leader in the burgeoning area of Mindfulness as well.

The Modern Life Mindfulness Festival will be filled with highly curated programming; consisting of meditation, music, art, food, technology, speakers, and creative opportunities for people to interact with each other.

Our three objectives are:

1. To give you diverse experiences and routes to access Mindfulness
2. To inspire you through charismatic speakers offering actionable insights
3. To act as a catalyst to build community

Modern OM, the first mindfulness lifestyle brand, and The Sacred Space Miami, a center for personal growth and transformation, have partnered to bring this Festival to life.

Join us in the Mindfulness movement and help co-author a festival in Miami that will inspire, uplift, and connect you to likeminded people.

Action-Packed, High-Flying Mexican Wrestling will be fighting in Miami on October 16th at Bank United Center. Come see the amazing “Lucha Libre” presented by Warrior Fight Federation (WFF). This is a Pro Wrestling event for the entire Family, get your tickets today at http://bit.ly/LuchaLibreEnMiami

In case you don’t know much about Lucha Libre, here are some specifics
“La Lucha Libre” is characterized by colorful masks, rapid sequences of holds, maneuvers and unparalleled acrobatic skills. It is similar in many ways to the form of wrestling that inspired it — American professional wrestling. Both forms are full of colorful characters and outlandish story lines, and the rules in both types are very flexible and loosely enforced. In fact, lucha libre translates to “free fighting.

The most obvious thing that sets lucha libre apart is that almost every major Mexican wrestling star wears a mask and doesn’t use his real name. “La mascara” plays an important part of the storyline, and can also provide some anonymity in a country enthralled by the sport of Mexican wrestling. Therefore its following, both in Mexico and other countries, has made it the most popular sport after soccer in a country of 100 million people, and an integral part of pop culture.

So you are invited to live the experience true Lucha Libre and see the finest and most daring spectacle. An event recommended by Mexicanos en Miami. Learn more about WFF at http://www.warriorfightfederation.com/

Curated by Jorge Luis Gutierrez, The Other Dimension kicks off Art Basel Miami Beach Week with a special meet the artist reception on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The exhibition is then open to the public through January 22, 2017.

The Other Dimension reveals an artist who sees the universe from a range of diverse scientific, philosophical and cultural perspectives, all integrated into one single approach. The exhibition will be presented in seven differentiated rooms, symbolizing five narratives that are not perceptibly different from each other, although the extremes are quite distinct. Rodriguez’s inventive artistic layout among the exhibition spaces makes The Other Dimension a participatory show for all audiences

Alexander knows it is going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day when he wakes up with gum in his hair, and he is right. Things only get worse as the day goes on: his best friend bails on him, there’s no dessert in his lunch bag, there’s lima beans for dinner and kissing on TV! The only reasonable response is to move to Australia. Judith Viorst adapted her own award-winning children’s book into this marvelous musical that is wacky, wild, and wonderfully wise.

In 1979 Diana Gonzalez, a young Cuban-American TV reporter, traveled to Cuba with her reporter’s notebook, a cameraman and a sheaf of travel documents and reported on life in Cuba – for visitors and for Cubans. In her reports, aired on Miami’s WTVJ-4, Gonzalez found out what it was like to stay at the Hotel Nacional, shop in a Communist capitol, dine in Havana’s finest restaurant while Cubans endured food shortages, and captured Cuban youth culture, from record stores and teen hangouts to the Cuban version of “American Bandstand.”

In “Ticket To Havana: Reporting In Cuba in the 1970s,” Emmy Award-winning television reporter Diana Gonzalez will recount her 1979 reporting trip to Cuba, screening some of the stories she covered there and talking about reporting in authoritarian Cuba during a thaw in U.S. – Cuba relations just six months before the Mariel Boatlift dramatically changed the relationship between the United States and Cuba.
