For more than 35 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade has been selling Christmas trees and wreaths to help bring holiday cheer into many South Florida households. The tradition continues in 2016.

One-hundred percent of proceeds from the tree and wreath sales will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade, which serves thousands of boys and girls in Miami-Dade County with positive programs year-round.

To kick off the 2016 selling season, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade will hold a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony at the Hank Kline Club tree lot on Monday, Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. Attending will be Santa Claus himself to visit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade children, local dignitaries and Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade board members and representatives. The new Kendall Jazz Club will be performing Christmas favorites.

The trees, gorgeous Fraser firs hand-selected in North Carolina by Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dadeâ€™s President Alex Rodriguez-Roig, stand 5- to 14-feet tall with a starting price of $55. Plain and hand-decorated wreaths are also available starting at $35.

Tree lot open seven days a week, starting Nov. 21 until trees are sold out 9 a.m.â€“9 p.m.

The Craft Spirits Fest, the original exhibition of artisanal, boutique, craft, premium, small-batch spirits and cocktails returned for its 4th year. The Grand Tasting was pushed back to October 13th due to Hurricane Matthew, but the place was still packed to capacity. The CSF showcases spirit producers, bartenders and beverage industry leaders who are influencing todayâ€™s resurgent craft spirits and craft cocktail movement. Over 120+ different Spirits and Cocktails were available to sample. At bars throughout the building, Miamiâ€™s best bartenders from the U.S. Bartendersâ€™ Guild served amazing craft cocktails.

Young Artist Initiative (YAI), Miamiâ€™s newest artist driven concept presents Design and its Dimensions, a curated sensory exhibition on Friday, October 28th, 2016 at The Moore Building organized by the Young Artist Initiative in partnership with the Miami Design District.

For its next exhibition, YAI has carefully selected Design and its Dimensions as the conceptual base for live art and activations. Design has been the force of evolution since the birth of innovation and has accompanied the development of our culture over the course of history. Its precise yet flexible nature has been the power behind our greatest civilizational advancements, from the creation of industry to the mapping of cities.

The Young Artist Initiative (YAI) aims to create a dialogue by instilling Design and its Dimensions as the conceptual base of its next exhibition. All participating artists and designers are being presented with the challenge of interpreting the exhibitions central thesis: how do we design the fourth dimension?

YAI invites you to enjoy and ponder the reflections of Miami’s Collective of Young Artists at Design and its Dimensions on Friday, October 28th 2016 at the Moore Building. The event starts at 8 p.m. and goes until 3 a.m.

The Miami Design District, the brainchild of Craig Robins, is a creative neighbourhood dedicated to innovative fashion, design, art, architecture, and dining. The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is delighted to announce Ignacio Berroa as part of the monthly Jazz at MOCA series. The Cuban-born drummer has been praised through the years for combining folkloric rhythms with contemporary jazz and funk, along with being recognized as one of the greatest drummers of our time. Through his many years of performing, Berroa has collaborated with a number of legendary artists including Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Jackie McLean, Jack Bruce, Wynton Marsalis and Jaco Pastorius to name a few.

Berroa released his first solo album, â€œCodes,â€ in 2006, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2007. The album also won a Danish Music Award in 2007 for â€œBest International Jazz Album.â€ He stands proud on the recent Blue Note Records Mp3 entitled â€œJazz Drumming Legendsâ€ which features some of the most renowned drummers in Jazz history. The public is invited to come sit under the stars and enjoy the Afro-Cuban rhythms by Ignacio Berroa.

It has increased the visibility in the United States of crucial figures like Julio Le Parc, JosÃ© Gurvich, Jorge Eielson, Lydia Okumura, Antonio Manuel, Waltercio Caldas, Ivan Contreras Brunet, Carlos Cruz-Diez, and Spanish artist Elena Asinsâ€”all of whom have been featured in its exhibitions and galleries. Emerging contemporary artists like Elias Crespin, Ivan Navarro, Alexandre Arrechea, Dario Escobar, Matias Duville, Alejandro Londono, Gonzalo Fuenmayor, JosÃ© Luis Landet, Ricardo Alcaide, Emilio Chapela, and many others have also participated in the fair. Through innovative management strategies, PINTA has been instrumental to major museumsâ€™ acquiring works by Latin American artists. A few examples of such acquisitions include a piece by Abraham Palatnik purchased by MoMA for its permanent collection; a work by Elias CrespÃn purchased by The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and a work by Fernando Bryce purchased by the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA).

Our curated sections featured not only works by a range of legendary artists, but also recreations of historical performances. PINTA Miami 2016 will be more international and interdisciplinary. Thanks to their successful sections at last yearâ€™s edition, curators JosÃ© Antonio Navarrete, Roc Laseca, and Jesus Fuenmayor will return this year to curate sections on photography, drawing, and solo projects respectively. This edition aims to continue to provide a platform for its participants and to further the fairâ€™s mission of showcasing pioneering artists and discovering young talents.

In addition, PINTA Miami launches the Young Collectors Desk, an initiative of Guijarro de Pablo Art Consulting. The objective is to provide to the assistants -already avid collectors and enthusiasts of art â€“ with the necessary tools to maximize the experience at the fair. The Young Collectors Desk aims to educate and give attendees the opportunity to explore the world of the arts with guided tours that focus on the construction and maintenance of a coherent and sustainable collection. The initiative is directed by Jimena Guijarro, who combines her knowledge of strategic communications with her experience and passion for the visual arts. One of her specialties is to introduce and facilitate the collecting processes to newcomers to the art world.

PINTA Miami is directed by Diego Costa Peuser, CEO and Editor in Chief of Arte al Dia Internacional magazine. At Fairchildâ€™s Howl-o-ween guests can take advantage of a great opportunity to enjoy the Garden with their dogs as they parade through Fairchildâ€™s lush surroundings all the while showing off their Halloween costumes. Guests and their dog can hop on any of the trams, make it a doggie tram ride! Now that’s something to wag your tail about!

Howl-o-ween Rules:
To protect our plant collections, please keep your dogs on the path or on grassy areas. Dogs are not permitted to walk onto planting beds.
Dogs must be current on all vaccinations and have a current rabies tag attached to their collar.
Dogs must be leashed at all times and under the control of their handlers. Do not unleash your dog at any time.
Dog handlers are required to clean-up after their dogs. Dog handlers must use “doggie bags” and dispose of them in the designated receptacles.
Aggressive dogs are not permitted in the garden. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden reserves the right to refuse entry to, or remove, any dog thought to be dangerous to visitors or other dogs.
Dogs in heat are prohibited from entering the garden.
Most importantly, we ask that you use good judgment on all matters concerning your dog. This will ensure an enjoyable and safe visit for you and your best pal.

The Common Field Convening is an itinerant annual gathering created by and for the field of visual artists’ organizations. These organizations support artists and foster experimental projects that are responsive to and embedded in the places and communities in which they live and work.

This years convening in Miami FL investigates the contexts and conditions of experimental arts organizing in a time of accelerated capitalism. The convening is organized in collaborating partnership by Miami’s BFI (Bas Fisher Invitational), Cannonball, Dimensions Variable, and Locust Projects, an alliance of local Miami organizers and a national Common Field team.

The 2016 program includes panels, breakouts, data blitzes, workshops, events, tours, and celebrations throughout the city. This year’s program includes a variety of formats for intimate conversation, peer-to-peer exchange and cross-pollination around both practical and value driven issues. It also provides forums for Common Field members to connect and strategize trajectories for the year ahead.

The 2016 Convening brings together 350+ local and national organizers to explore arts organizing in a time of accelerated capitalism.

While well-known for the hyperluxury commercial market fueled by Art Basel, Miami is also home to a robust network of artist and cultural organizations devoted to critical practice and experimental production. The 2016 Common Field Convening will connect national arts organizers and locals from Miamiâ€™s artist-run spaces and centers, alternative spaces, and independent artistsâ€™ projects at the Little Haiti Cultural Center.

This yearâ€™s Convening focuses on how artist-run and artist-centered organizations survive and sustain in our current times, which requires new practices for adjusting to rapid shifts in technological, environmental, economic, social and political forces. The four day program includes panels, breakout sessions, workshops, tours and local arts events.

Thursdayâ€™s Opening Ceremony includes a performance by Dream Defenders and a keynote by Edouard Duval-CarriÃ©. Sessions on Friday and Saturday are anchored by 4 central panels each followed by a series of breakouts and talks featuring a total of 120 presenters sharing ideas and expertise in an additonal 20 breakouts, 4 lightning talks and 4 workshops. Central themes include Art Making Under Accelerated Capitalism, Transitions: Evolving Organization Models, Gentrification + Sustaining Neighborhoods, and Critical Programs/Critical Ideas.

Evening festivities and events at Fountainhead and Diaspora Vibe/DVCAI After Party bring the best of the Miami scene forward. Commissioned projects, screenings and performances feature local artists and collectives including Borscht Corp, Books Are Nice, Loni Johnson + Hattie Mae Williams, DJ Mack of Rhythm Foundation, Jillian Mayer, Miami Music Club With Ana Mendez, and Serge Toussaint.

Tickets include breakfast, lunch and Saturday dinner highlighting Miamiâ€™s rich culinary heritage.

Common Field is a national network of artists organizations that launched officially at the Fall 2015 Common Field Convening (aka Hand-in-Glove) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Four hundred and thirty self-nominating members from 40 states include artist-run and non-profit art spaces, publications, digital exhibition venues, festivals, residencies, collectives and collaborative organizers, curators, artists, and administrators working in a variety of mediums. Common Field creates visibility and viability for the field of artist organizations through connection, advocacy, research, and resources. The Convening provides an important outlet for national members to collectively plot futures for Common Field — brainstorming research trajectories, resource exchange channels, and advocacy strategies for the second official year of the organization.

Lead Miami partners include Bas Fisher Invitational (BFI), a 501c3 artist run space dedicated to creativity, experimentation, and discourse in contemporary art; Cannonball, a non-profit, 501c3, arts organization dedicated to supporting artists, innovative forms of cultural production, and education to advance critical discourse and understanding of contemporary art practice; Dimensions Variable (DV) an exhibition space based in Miami and committed to the presentation and support of contemporary art; and Locust Projects is not for profit exhibition space dedicated to providing contemporary visual artists the freedom to experiment with new ideas without the pressures of gallery sales or limitations of conventional exhibition spaces. The convening has inspired the growing Miami Arts Alliance, a group of 60+ local organizations who have provided insight and support for the initiative.

Organization Celebrates 61 years of supporting Opera in South Florida

The Young Patronesses of the Opera, one of Miamiâ€™s oldest arts organizations, is celebrating its 61st year, and will host a dazzling night of dinner and dancing at its â€œAn Aria to Americaâ€ Gala at the Riviera Country Club in Coral Gables on Saturday November 5, 2016. Attendees will enjoy a cocktail hour that includes a silent auction and entertainment, followed by dinner and dancing to the sounds of the Drew T Band. Master of Ceremonies for this historic event will be one of Florida Grand Opera’s leading opera experts, Justin Moss. Marianne Kircher & Paula Barrera Scheer are serving as this yearâ€™s Gala Chairs.

Founded in 1955, YPO is a volunteer group of 100 dedicated women who advocate for music and opera education to children in South Florida. Proceeds raised at “An Aria to America” will fund music and opera educational programs. Every year, YPO presents a workshop for more than 500 Girl Scouts, and a professional development workshop on opera in the classroom for Miami-Dade and Broward County teachers. YPO also brings professional childrenâ€™s opera performances to more than 30,000 elementary students annually. In addition, YPO also presents a national voice competition for aspiring young opera singers.

The Little Lighthouse Foundation hosts its seventh (7th) Annual Halloween charity event, Nightmare on the Beach: Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) (â€œNOTB2016â€), on Saturday night, October 29, 2016 at South Beachâ€™s Lummus Park.
NOTB2016, South Floridaâ€™s premier Halloween charity event, will offer guests a unique outdoor nightclub experience where guests will join the dead, who are awakened from their eternal sleep to share the celebrations while raising money for South Florida children. The Other Dimension reveals an artist who sees the universe from a range of diverse scientific, philosophical and cultural perspectives, all integrated into one single approach. The exhibition will be presented in seven differentiated rooms, symbolizing five narratives that are not perceptibly different from each other, although the extremes are quite distinct. Dormiveglia features large-scale oil paintings conceived in 1998 and other works by Francesco Clemente, a leading figure of the Neo-Expressionist movement. The Marlins today announced the memorial services for JosÃ© FernÃ¡ndez. A public viewing will take place Wednesday, September 28th, at St. Brendanâ€™s Catholic Church. Guests can pay their respects at the church anytime between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Media will have access inside the church for a 10-minute period, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Media is asked to park along SW 32nd Street.

Guests will also have the opportunity earlier in the day to gather on the West Plaza of Marlins Park at 2 p.m. The funeral motorcade will then depart from Marlins Park at 2:16 p.m. Fans will have complimentary access to park in a surface lot on the West side of the ballpark.

On Thursday, September 29th, a mass for JosÃ© FernÃ¡ndez will be celebrated and attended by the FernÃ¡ndez family, Marlins players, coaches and front office personnel. This is not open to the public.

In 1979 Diana Gonzalez, a young Cuban-American TV reporter, traveled to Cuba with her reporterâ€™s notebook, a cameraman and a sheaf of travel documents and reported on life in Cuba â€“ for visitors and for Cubans. In her reports, aired on Miamiâ€™s WTVJ-4, Gonzalez found out what it was like to stay at the Hotel Nacional, shop in a Communist capitol, dine in Havanaâ€™s finest restaurant while Cubans endured food shortages, and captured Cuban youth culture, from record stores and teen hangouts to the Cuban version of â€œAmerican Bandstand.â€

October 1 at 8 PM: The Arts Garage presents the legendary tenor saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis. Ellis is a well-known American musician who was an essential part of James Brown’s band in 1960s and its musical director. A student of Sonny Rollins, he is a saxophonist, arranger and composer. Music, particularly jazz, is his passion. In 1965, he started working with James Brown and became a part of some hit projects like â€œCold Sweatâ€, â€œMother Popcornâ€, â€œLickinâ€™ Stick,â€ and â€œThe Chickenâ€ in a short period of 4 years. Subsequently he worked with artists like George Benson, Hank Crawford, Esther Phillips, and David Liebman. He later worked with Van Morrisonâ€™s band as arranger and music director and fully deserves the credit for major hits of that time. His song with James Brown, “Say It Loud: I’m Black and I’m Proud”, is a source of inspiration for all black people, and truly expresses their mind and heart. Bulks of steins have been seen being carried through Pawn Brokerâ€™s back door in anticipation of the rooftopâ€™s latest festivities, and it has been revealed that after many late lunches and evening drinks with Miamiâ€™s finest bacon connoisseurs, the Miami Smokers & PB Stationâ€™s Chef Guillermo Concha, Chef Jose Mendin is very much prepared to host the greatest party the Miami Rooftop has seen to date. And thatâ€™s saying a lot, as previous parties have gone down in the books.

With a reputable liquor and cocktail menu, Pawn Broker are said to give a gracious nod to the alcoholic wonders Bavarian history has produced, with a refined list of Deutschland beers and other nationâ€™s glorious ales and lagers. Itâ€™s also alleged that the Miami Rooftop will be embracing their celebrated Pawn Broker cocktails with a slight twist to the regular menu, beer being the supplementary ingredient to a collection of novel Oktoberfest cocktails.

Thursdays are known for the rooftopâ€™s resident DJ Vinyl Night and so there is a high possibility of one or two beer spillages from all the excitement. The Marker Waterfront Resort located in the southernmost city of Key West will be hosting its first ever pin-up girl contest, in partnership with M.I.A. Beer Company and Southernmost Tattoo. Guests and locals can enter to strut their best 1950â€™s-inspired looks on Saturday, October 1 at the Old Town Key West property.

Judges for the contest will be picked at random from a $5 raffle. First, second and third place pin-up girls will receive a prize pack including gift certificates to Southernmost Tattoo, local Key West vintage clothing stores and other prizes to make their pin-up girl dreams come to life.

The contest will take place at the Marker Resortâ€™s poolside area starting at 5 p.m. M.I.A. Beer Company will host a tap takeover for the event featuring some of their fan favorite brews including Miami Weiss, Tourist Trappe, Snowbird and Moo over Miami.

Swerdlow Art Group, in collaboration with Osel Art Group, is pleased to announce its Fall 2016 exhibition: Migration of the Sign, featuring the works of Sergio Payares and Maximo Caminero. This marks the galleryâ€™s second exhibition of the artistsâ€™ works. The opening reception will take place from 6-9p.m. on Friday, October 7th, 2016.

Migration of the Sign explores the dynamics of artistic productions and migration, questioning what migrates in a painting and what defines alterity during the process. This exhibition provides an opportunity to experience the interference and the fading of the sign through the blurring, changing and transferring of codes, leading to a new approach to image making in which the fluctuation of the imaginary transcends the pictorial space. Twenty works spanning the last decade of the artistsâ€™ practices will be presented to the public for the first time.

Stacy Conde, of Conde Contemporary, the gallery on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables with a concentration on narrative realism, photorealistic portraiture and surrealism, has partnered with the Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach for the launch of Technique Art Fair during Miami Art Week 2016.

The focus of Technique Art Fair is primarily representational art, by a body of international artists, represented by a host of world class galleries and dealers.

Technique Art Fair will celebrate the tangible, the relatable, and the emotional qualities which artists convey in works that require more technique than abstraction.

“…contemporary art is in many ways so entranced by the conceptual that the actual work and technique involved in creating art, have become secondary, tertiary even, to the obfuscated artist’s statement. Happily, I sense a seismic shift is underwayâ€, says Stacy Conde.

She isn’t alone in predicting a return to representational work.

Celebrity Cruises takes to the shore to present a one-of-a-kind evening filled with delectable dining, craft-cocktails, and live entertainment all in the name of charity. “An Evening Under the Michelin Stars”, hosted by their very own Michelin-starred Chef, Cornelius Gallagher, takes place at Celebrity’s production headquarters inside a newly built, 130,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility.

This event brings some of Celebrity Cruises most special amenities on shore for one night in order to raise funds and awareness for the Children’s Cancer Care Center.

The evening will consist of a carefully curated menu of craft-cocktails, delectable canapes, and a six-course dinner by Chef Cornelius Gallagher, Associate Vice President of Food and Beverage Operations for Celebrity Cruises and one of the only Michelin-starred chefs in the world to take to the high seas.

Guests will experience a full-scale musical production of Broken Strings, Celebrity CruiseÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s original performance which is currently featured onboard the Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Reflection vessels. Take in a full-scale musical production in the 300-seat theater, then raise your bidding paddle during the live auction to win extraordinary vacation packages, golf outings, luxury jewelry, and more.

100% of all proceeds from this event will benefit the ChildrenÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Cancer Care Center (CCCC), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to serving families of children who have cancer or chronic blood disorders with emotional, financial, and educational support necessary to cope with their life-threatening illness.
