Meet artist Mira Lehr as she presents her new exhibition, “Second Nature,” in Fairchild’s Arts Center. The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is pleased to present Rose Max and Ramatis as part of the monthly Jazz at MOCA series. The duo provides a magical and musical experience with the beautiful voice of Max and the genuine Brazilian acoustic guitar of Ramatis. They provide the perfect mix of the soulful Brazilian music style. The duo has been recognized as “Best Lounge Act” and Max as “Best Female Vocalist.”

Max is a fan favorite and has performed for enthusiastic crowds at Jazz at MOCA previously. She has become highly recognized in the Brazilian, Spanish and American communities. Max won the Brazilian Press Award for the “Best Female Brazilian Singer Residing and Performing in the USA” three times.

Ramatis has been performing professionally at local bars and nightclubs since the age of 12. He soon found himself as backup to some of the biggest names in Brazilian popular music including Johnny Alf, Roberto Menescal, and Pery Ribeiro among others. He has been living in Miami for the past 10 years and is considered one of today’s biggest Bossa Nova guitarists/bassists in the U.S. The public is invited to sit under the stars and enjoy the Brazilian jazz music from Rose Max and Ramatis.

In celebration of the newest location of Havana 1957, they are taking guests back in time. Élite attendees will immerse themselves in the 1950’s era of Cuba for the highly anticipated grand opening party taking place on Miami’s exciting epicenter, Ocean Drive.

On Thursday, July 14th from 6-8 PM, special guests will relive the glory days of Cuba experiencing its irreplaceable and stimulating culture from a multitude of entertainment including live music and themed dancers. Upon entry, guests will step into a time warp on a festive note by being greeted with none other than the classic Mojito. During the celebration, guests will be able to sip on complimentary cocktails from one of the Bacardi bars. Paying tribute to the treasured culture, savory signature bites from Havana 1957 will be passed around like Tostones y Vaca Frita, Masitas de Puerco and their popular Empanadas.
For more amusement, cigar enthusiasts will be able to see how a Cuban cigar is crafted by an expert.

Attendees will also be able to capture their experience by getting their photo taken and printed in a Havana 1957 branded frame to take home the same evening. In the midst of celebrating, raffle tickets will be available for purchase to win a dinner for 2 at any of the Havana 1957 locations. Proceeds will be donated to the charity Kristi House dedicated to healing and eradicating child sexual abuse.

At 6 PM, Mayor Levine will also be present to inaugurate the ribbon cutting ceremony for the official unveiling of Havana 1957 Ocean Drive.

Not enough action? For the first time ever we’ve added a second Pit Party! The Pit Party will be held on Aug. 13 and Aug. 14 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. and will give fans the opportunity to get a view of the trucks up close and meet the drivers of the massive Monster Jam trucks. Miami FC, Miami’s sole professional soccer club, is partnering with Equality Florida to host the first Miami FC Pride Night. Benefitting the victims of the Orlando tragedy, 50 percent of all ticket revenues from the July 16, 2016 game at Ocean Bank Field at FIU Stadium against the Jacksonville Armada will be donated to the Pulse Victims Fund.

Rallying South Florida to support the LGBTQ community, the first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a Miami FC Pride Night branded bandana. The evening will also include a national anthem performance and a post-game concert by Nestor Torres, a Grammy Award-winning jazz musician, from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

“Miami FC’s mission is to connect with Miami’s communities through the global language of soccer,” said Miami FC CEO Sean Flynn. “Pride Night demonstrates our support for the LGBTQ community and we are confident South Florida will join us in this show of solidarity to give back to the victims of the Pulse Nightclub tragedy.”

Surrounded by heavenly eats, irresistible fashion and craft fitness exercises, The Confidante, in partnership with a team of health professionals, are on a mission to host the most promising day of rejuvenation.

Food, Fashion & Fitness will be overflowing with natural food, active workouts and stylish demonstrations from beginning to end. Savor ‘Healthy Bowls of Happy’ by Della Test Kitchen before kick-starting the day with a refreshing Aquacycle class, hosted by workout enthusiast, Zack Shares. With the recent Orlando tragedy, it is important now more than ever for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community to come together and support anyone who is grieving the death of a loved one. To encourage this, VITAS® Healthcare is holding a free monthly bereavement support group for the LGBT communities, friends and family.

The group will be facilitated by VITAS’ specially, trained bereavement staff and is open to anyone grieving or who has previously grieved the death of a friend or loved one from the LGBT community.

Lauren is constantly evolving.…from actress to lyricist for the rock band PAO (featuring Janice Robinson and Emmy winner Fred Shehadi); from fronting a band in the vein of Patti Smith to writing and performing acoustic rock.

Lauren has played festivals such as NYC’s CMJ Howl! Fest MEANY Fest The Seaside Music Festival The NY Funny Songs Festival and The Joys of Hemp Festival and toured throughout the United States and Canada. Her two studio albums Inconsequential Dream & Panic earned her two New Century Music Awards. Lauren will be releasing new material throughout 2016 The sound is either a love affair between Amanda Palmer and The Pixies or Lene Lovich romancing Charlie Chaplin depending who you ask.

Join Savor Tonight for an epicurean love affair at Marion Miami, voted one of the top ten restaurants of 2016 by Zagat.com and was most recently voted the Best Restaurant in Brickell by Miami New Times.

This French brasserie combines traditional French dishes with flavors of Spain, Greece and Italy, all of which are prepared in-house in Marion’s open kitchen. At it’s helm, is chef Jean Paul Lourdes who worked for the French legend Pierre Gagnaire, before running multiple Michelin-starred restaurants around the world.

Chef now runs the kitchen at Marion Miami and has created a sumptuous, Mediterranean-focused menu, which is enhanced by the exquisite wine and cocktail program.

This will be a happy hour event and is limited to 40 people. Cost is $10 in advance (by 4 p.m. on the day of the event) or $15 at the door. This includes one glass of the featured wine and a selection of complimentary hors d’oeuvres like Pa am tomàquet heirloom tomatoes with Iberian Ham; Piquillo Peppers stuffed with Mahon cheese; Pissaladiere Marion-style with caramelized onions; and Vegetable Springrolls.

After concluding another amazing ballet season and receiving the best scholarly critic reviews, Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida will travel to Indonesia to be part of the 2016 International Young Dancers Festival.

This convention will set specifically in the cities of Jakarta and Surabaya from June 14th through June 22nd. The event is conducted on annual basis since 2004 when Denmark hosted first.

Ruby Romero-Issaev, company’s Executive Director, declares that since its inception, they have participated in this festival three times in Denmark, twice in Germany, three times in Poland and currently preparing to host the upcoming 2017 event taking place in Miami which also fuses with the company’s 20th Anniversary. The cultural exchange among countries is the main focus. In addition to a vast array of performances, dance conferences and workshops displaying directors varying manners and styles will be offered. Dancers involved will get to experience different tendencies through a multi-collaborated choreography resulting in a single piece of international magnificence.

Traveling to participate in this festival in Indonesia is a great opportunity for Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida thanks to the support of the Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and private funds. The American delegation is represented by our principal dancer Mary Carmen Catoya with Lillian Hill, Hinano Eto, Renee Roberts and Kayci Rodríguez. They will showcase Don Quixote Grand Pas, music by Minkus and choreography by Petipa and the variations for The Four Seasons, choreographed by Vladimir Issaev and music by Verdi. Guest artist Jun Tanabe former principal dancer for Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida and currently with Nevada Ballet in Las Vegas, will round up this production.

Director Marlupi Sijangga, a dance eminence in the history of Indonesia will graciously host and welcome Artistic Director Vladimir Issaev and his group of excellent dancers. Ms. Sijangga directs 30 dance schools in that country. As a Director of Marlupi Dance, she is also hosting represented companies such as Ballet Fouette from Polonia, Doris Topete Ballet from Guadalajara in Mexico, ESBN from Lima – Perú and Ballet Pirouette from Germany among others.

The festival includes high rank local officials of culture and the Consulate General of The United States in Surabaya, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchanges.

This summer, Manatee Lagoon will offer a chance to learn more about the marine environment and its inhabitants every week with the afternoon lecture series, Sunday Afternoons at Manatee Lagoon. Each week, an esteemed environmental expert will discuss a new topic about our marine environment ranging from the causes and effects of migratory patterns, to how manatees communicate to the dangers of invasive species and more.

Following the lectures, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with the scientists to learn more about the week’s topic and their ongoing work.

This summer, Manatee Lagoon will give kids a peek under the sea and the lagoon with marine-themed storytime every Thursday during Manatee Tales & More. Each specially selected story will teach children about ecosystems and wildlife through engaging tales about fish, clams, manatees and more. Manatee Lagoon’s own Manatee Master story tellers will share various colorful stories about the aquatic species that live in the Lake Worth Lagoon.
