Popular author and food writer Jesse Blanco, the founder of Eat It and Like It and Eat It Florida, will speak at the Books & Books flagship location in Coral Gables, Fla., on Monday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. as part of “An Evening With Jesse Blanco.” This event is free and open to the public. RSVPs are recommended and are available by visiting booksandbooks.com.

A full-time food writer with an insatiable desire to travel, eat and explore, Blanco is the acclaimed author of Savannah Food Crawls and Charleston Food Crawls. His 24-year career in TV news – coupled with his large Cuban family’s influence in Miami – has given him the ability to connect with viewers and readers through food.

Blanco grew up in Coconut Grove, graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in 1987 and earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Central Florida in 1994 before launching a successful 24-year career as a television news anchor, reporter and sportscaster. Over the years, he has covered a wide range of news stories in Nashville, Tenn.; El Paso, Tex.; and Savannah, Ga., where he currently resides with his wife, Sheila.

In 2010, Blanco launched a popular blog – and later an award-winning television show – called Eat It and Like It, which was originally dedicated to exploring the underappreciated side of Savannah’s food scene. He has since expanded Eat and It and Like It to include cities and towns across the Southeast and is currently launching Eat It Florida, which is focused on celebrating exceptional food and drink across the Sunshine State.

Blanco published Savannah Food Crawls: Touring the Neighborhoods One Bite and Libation at a Time in 2023 and Charleston Food Crawls: Touring the Neighborhoods One Bite and Libation at a Time in 2024. Both books offer exciting culinary tours of the South’s most acclaimed cities, each of which has a vibrant, buzzworthy food scene. In each book, this larger-than-life food writer eagerly invites readers to dig into Savannah and Charleston, one dish at a time.

Join SCOOBY-DOO!™ and the gang to solve a gem of a mystery when the all-new SCOOBY-DOO!™ Mansion Mayhem opens on Friday, September 20 at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS). This immersive experience, in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment, allows families to join the members of Mystery Inc. to analyze clues and put their problem-solving skills to the test. Young detectives and their families will work through the rooms of the mansion meeting different characters from the iconic TV show that has captivated fans for more than five decades. Unmask the jewel thief and discover secrets of the mansion through January 5, 2025.

In the Hall of Portraits, meet Daphne—the brave fashionista of the gang. Comb through moving eye portraits to discover the villain’s hidden control panel that creates spooky illusions. In the Villain’s Tinkering Workshop, work alongside Fred, the group’s calm and collected leader, to build a trap for the villain. Green glowing clues appear to help along the way! Shaggy and his lovable canine pal Scooby-Doo™ can be found in the kitchen of course, where families participate in the iconic ghost chase and create many more delicious memories. No mystery can be solved without the help of tech-savvy Velma in the library music room. Solve a musical puzzle on the organ and use the Clue Analyzer to get a visual of the villain.

Be sure to gather the family for a mesmerizing photo op with The Mystery Machine! The iconic vehicle, on loan from Warner Bros. Archives, was one of four that were initially made for the live-action movies SCOOBY-DOO (2002) and SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASED (2004).

SCOOBY-DOO!™ Mansion Mayhem was produced by The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment. The Children’s Museum is a nonprofit committed to creating extraordinary family learning experiences across the arts, sciences and humanities that have the power to transform the lives of children and families. It is locally presented by Florida Prepaid College Savings Plans and sponsored by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

The inaugural Harbor Lights Golf Classic is set for Monday, October 28 at Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie to benefit Children’s Harbor, a nationally accredited non-profit agency with a mission to help strengthen families who are struggling in our community, while providing safe shelter and support to teens in foster care so that they may grow into healthy, educated and productive adults.

Price: $750 for individuals, $2,500 for a foursome

“Whether you can lend your expertise to the planning committee, take advantage of a sponsorship opportunity or simply play on the beautiful Grande Oaks course, you can make a difference in helping to build a brighter future for our teens and their siblings,” Children’s Harbor President and CEO Tiffani Dhooge said.

Grande Oaks, located at 3201 W. Rolling Hills Circle in Davie, boasts a pristine 18-hole, par-71 course. Recently renovated by the legendary golfer Raymond Floyd, who also designed the course, it features Celebration grass on the tees and fairways, along with Tift Eagle grass on the putting surfaces.

Established in 1996, Children’s Harbor is a nationally accredited non-profit agency with a mission to help strengthen families who are struggling in our community, while providing safe shelter and support to teens in foster care so that they may grow into healthy, educated and productive adults.

With the belief that children should feel safe, that family is worth fighting for and that cycles can be broken, Children’s Harbor provides a harbor of hope and healing for children who have been impacted by the trauma of child abuse. The main campus in Pembroke Pines provides a supportive family environment for teenagers in foster care and their younger siblings. The family strengthening program prevents kids from coming into foster care by providing in-home counseling and support to families who are struggling in the community. Young adults aged 18-23 who have aged out of foster care are provided with housing and the wrap-around support and independent living programs necessary to help them overcome their trauma and navigate through the early stages of adulthood.

Brown’s Harbor is a supportive housing community that offers on-site staff, training, and wrap-around support services for young adults who have aged out of the foster care system, ages 18-23, helping to bridge the gap from dependence to independence.

Following the global announcement of the discovery of a rare juvenile T. rex specimen by three young boys, the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) is pleased to announce the premiere of T. REX, the giant screen documentary that captured this incredible expedition on camera. This captivating science adventure and a love letter to T. rex, the Greatest of All Tyrants – the GOAT – is now playing at the AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater.

Anchored by the true story of the young fossil hunters who made the discovery of a lifetime when they spotted a large, fossilized leg bone on a walk on public lands in North Dakota, T. REX intercuts the remarkable fossil dig, with cutting edge computer graphics that bring the iconic T. rex – from hatchling to hulking adult – to life. Narrated by Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill, T. REX explores the newest science that has helped reinvent our understanding of the iconic predator.

With hat tips to famous specimens, landmark discoveries, and wild cinematic T. rex depictions over the last century, the film also brings to life a cast of prehistoric characters including rex’s archrival, Triceratops; Quetzalcoatlus, one the largest animals ever to take flight; and the 25-foot long Sinraptor, a species that likely fed on early tyrannosaurs.

T. REX is an immersive cinema experience produced by Giant Screen Films and D3D Cinema, in partnership with the Field Museum, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Houston Museum of Natural Science and Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, in association with the Cincinnati Museum Center, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Museums Victoria, and New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. The T. rex fossil featured in the film was collected on land under the jurisdiction of the US Bureau of Land Management, permit ND2023-00084.
