“Yakne Seminoli,” New Works by Seminole Artists Erica Deitz and Brian Zepeda, celebrates Native American History Month (November) and beyond at History Fort Lauderdale. This collaboration with the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum will feature fine art and photography reflecting themes of leadership and respect. The exhibit at the New River Inn History Museum runs through January 5.

Born on the Winnebago Indian Reservation, Erica Deitz is a member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida on her mother’s side and Winnebago and Ojibway heritage on her father’s side. Her work offers an indigenous perspective in a variety of art mediums in a way that is accessible to a wide audience. Deitz’s passion to express herself through art began at the age of three as she painted with accomplished Native American artist Jo M. North, her mother. At the age of 10, Deitz entered her first major art contest and received a bronze medal for her work from the International Children’s Art Exhibition in Tokyo, Japan. She has continued to win awards for her artwork throughout her career. Deitz’s work is showcased in both solo and group exhibitions across the world, including the permanent collection in the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. and in the Lowe Art Museum in Miami. Several pieces of her art have been displayed alongside fellow Seminole Tribal artists in the “Seminole Art Scene from Frontlines,” “Patchwork Mosaic: An Indigenous Gathering of Seminole Masterworks,” and “Circle of Unity.” These exhibitions were a centerpiece of the History Fort Lauderdale Museum’s Native American Heritage Month celebration. In addition, one of Dietz’s original acrylic paintings was selected as cover art for the June 2021 internationally circulated magazine, Indian Gaming Magazine.

Brian Zepeda became serious about learning photography in 1997 while employed at the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum. During his time there, he captured various items to send to interested collectors and institutes. His talents don’t end with his camera; his skills also include beadwork, woodcarving, silversmithing, leather smithing, building Chickees and more. Esteemed institutions and galleries have requested his beadwork as well as photography. Along with being a photographer and artist, Zepeda is a Seminole Tribe of Florida council/board liaison.

Entry to the exhibit is free with general admission – $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is always free for members, military and children ages six and under. Tickets are available online at http://bit.ly/HistoryFortLauderdaleTickets.

History Fort Lauderdale is proud to host a variety of engaging multicultural experiences, year-round. It seeks to bring awareness to the community through both traveling exhibits and multiple permanent exhibits including “Women Trailblazers,” “Fort Lauderdale – the Early Years,” “The African American Experience,” “Fashion & Musical Theatre,” “From Dugouts to Dream Yachts: the story of boatbuilding along the New River,” Seminole Arts & Culture,” “New River Archaeology,” and “Take PRIDE, a retrospective on LGBTQ life in South Florida.” The nonprofit museum also hosts an artists’ collective collaborative space.

“Yakne Seminoli” is sponsored by the following funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Jan and Ed Crocker Unrestricted Fund, Leo M. and Alice J. Rutten Fund and The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation Broward Community Fund. Additional funding is provided, in part, by Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward County Cultural Council and Visit Lauderdale. Join SCOOBY-DOO!™ and the gang to solve a gem of a mystery when the all-new SCOOBY-DOO!™ Mansion Mayhem opens on Friday, September 20 at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS). This immersive experience, in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment, allows families to join the members of Mystery Inc. to analyze clues and put their problem-solving skills to the test. Young detectives and their families will work through the rooms of the mansion meeting different characters from the iconic TV show that has captivated fans for more than five decades. Unmask the jewel thief and discover secrets of the mansion through January 5, 2025.

In the Hall of Portraits, meet Daphne—the brave fashionista of the gang. Comb through moving eye portraits to discover the villain’s hidden control panel that creates spooky illusions. In the Villain’s Tinkering Workshop, work alongside Fred, the group’s calm and collected leader, to build a trap for the villain. Green glowing clues appear to help along the way! Shaggy and his lovable canine pal Scooby-Doo™ can be found in the kitchen of course, where families participate in the iconic ghost chase and create many more delicious memories. No mystery can be solved without the help of tech-savvy Velma in the library music room. Solve a musical puzzle on the organ and use the Clue Analyzer to get a visual of the villain.

Be sure to gather the family for a mesmerizing photo op with The Mystery Machine! The iconic vehicle, on loan from Warner Bros. Archives, was one of four that were initially made for the live-action movies SCOOBY-DOO (2002) and SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASED (2004).

Following the global announcement of the discovery of a rare juvenile T. rex specimen by three young boys, the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) is pleased to announce the premiere of T. REX, the giant screen documentary that captured this incredible expedition on camera. This captivating science adventure and a love letter to T. rex, the Greatest of All Tyrants – the GOAT – is now playing at the AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater.

Anchored by the true story of the young fossil hunters who made the discovery of a lifetime when they spotted a large, fossilized leg bone on a walk on public lands in North Dakota, T. REX intercuts the remarkable fossil dig, with cutting edge computer graphics that bring the iconic T. rex – from hatchling to hulking adult – to life. Narrated by Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill, T. REX explores the newest science that has helped reinvent our understanding of the iconic predator.

With hat tips to famous specimens, landmark discoveries, and wild cinematic T. rex depictions over the last century, the film also brings to life a cast of prehistoric characters including rex’s archrival, Triceratops; Quetzalcoatlus, one the largest animals ever to take flight; and the 25-foot long Sinraptor, a species that likely fed on early tyrannosaurs.

T. REX is an immersive cinema experience produced by Giant Screen Films and D3D Cinema, in partnership with the Field Museum, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Houston Museum of Natural Science and Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, in association with the Cincinnati Museum Center, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Museums Victoria, and New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. The T. rex fossil featured in the film was collected on land under the jurisdiction of the US Bureau of Land Management, permit ND2023-00084.

The AutoNation® IMAX® Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science is located at 401 SW 2nd Street in Fort Lauderdale. T. REX is included in the MODS Discovery Pass, an all-in-one ticket that includes Museum exhibitions, live science demonstrations and one IMAX documentary film. For tickets, please visit mods.org/tickets and for showtimes, please visit mods.org/showtimes.
